Book Two dimensional Transonic Flow Past Airfoils

Download or read book Two dimensional Transonic Flow Past Airfoils written by Yung-Huai Kuo and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of constructing solutions for transonic flow over symmetric airfoils is treated for simplification of the mapping of the incompressible flow is emphasized. In the case of a symmetric Joukowski airfoil without circulation the mapping is relatively simple, but the coefficients in the power series are difficult to evaluate. As a means of simplification an approximate flow is used which differs only slightly from the exact incompressible one when the thickness is small. Flow with circulation is also considered by the same method.

Book Unsteady Transonic Flow Past Airfoils in Rigid body Motion UFLO5

Download or read book Unsteady Transonic Flow Past Airfoils in Rigid body Motion UFLO5 written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the aim of developing a fast and accurate computer code for predicting the aerodynamic forces needed for a flutter analysis, some basic concepts in computational transonics are reviewed. The unsteady transonic flow past airfoils in rigid body motion is adequately described by the potential flow equation as long as the boundary layer remains attached. The two dimensional unsteady transonic potential flow equation in quasilinear form with first order radiation boundary conditions is solved by an alternating direction implicit scheme in an airfoil attached sheared parabolic coordinate system. Numerical experiments show that the scheme is very stable and is able to resolve the higher nonlinear transonic effects for filter analysis within the context of an inviscid theory.

Book A Separation Model for Two Dimensional Airfoils in Transonic Flow

Download or read book A Separation Model for Two Dimensional Airfoils in Transonic Flow written by Frank A. Dvorak and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A calculation method for transonic separated flow about two-dimensional airfoils at incidence is presented in this report. The method is capable of predicting the effects of both leading- and trailing-edge separated flows, although the former is usually associated with a complete collapse of the airfoil flow field, in which case the flow is no longer supercritical. A viscous potential flow iteration procedure provides the connection between potential flow, boundary layer and wake modules. The separated wake is modelled in the potential flow analysis by thin sheets across which exists a jump in velocity potential. These sheets are analogous to vorticity sheets in incompressible flow. The basic potential flow method is a modification of Jameson's full potential method. Calculations for four different airfoils have been compared with experiment for pressure distributions as well as integrated forces. The agreement between theory and experiment is generally good even when shock waves are present. (Author).

Book Methods for Analysis of Two dimensional Airfoils with Subsonic and Transonic Applications

Download or read book Methods for Analysis of Two dimensional Airfoils with Subsonic and Transonic Applications written by J. A. Bennett and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents a method for describing the subsonic, viscid, attached flow about two-dimensional airfoils with applications to transonic flow. The method utilizes state-of-the-art technology to analyze all aspects of the flow and combines boundary layer solutions with inviscid pressure distribution prediction methods to obtain a 'complete' solution. This complete solution is represented by a pressure distribution at any point on the airfoil which relects the viscid, inviscid, and compressible effects in proper combination. The solution is programmed for an IBM7094 computer in which the required inputs are freestream flow conditions and airfoil geometry only. The program computes the pressure and boundary layer distribution using an iterative procedure to attain equilibrium conditions. These data, as well as the lift, drag and pitching moment of the viscid solution and the inviscid pressure distribution are provided as output. Methods for applying the results to analyze practical subsonic and transonic design problems are discussed. (Author).

Book Calculation of Transonic Flows Past Thin Airfoils by an Integral Method

Download or read book Calculation of Transonic Flows Past Thin Airfoils by an Integral Method written by William Perl and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method of calculating two-dimensional compressible flows past thin airfoils in the transonic speed range is presented. The method is based on the integral form of the equation of continuity and on the intrinsic form, in terms of streamline curvature, of the irrotationality conditions. The results, which conform with the transonic similarity theory, include velocity distributions, shock locations, and pressure drag for symmetrical airfoils at zero lift. Comparisons are made with experiment and other theories. The terminal shock in the lower transonic speed range if especially discussed and also the relation of the results to the limiting-line phenomenon.

Book Small Disturbance Transonic Flows about Oscillating Airfoils

Download or read book Small Disturbance Transonic Flows about Oscillating Airfoils written by R. M. Traci and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theory and numerical solution method are presented for the problem of two-dimensional unsteady transonic flow about thin airfoils undergoing harmonic oscillation. The theory is based on a treatment of the unsteady flow as a small perturbation on the non-linear steady flow. The governing equations for the steady and unsteady perturbation potentials are of mixed elliptic/hyperbolic type and are solved by the mixed differencing line relaxation technique of Murman and Cole. Detailed steady and unsteady calculations are performed and compared when possible to available experimental data. The solution procedure is found to be highly efficient and promises further improvements in efficiency through the use of extrapolation schemes. Also the method can be generalized in a straightforward manner to perform calculations with supersonic freestreams and three-dimensional finite wing calculations. (Author).

Book Transonic Scaling Effect on a Quasi Two dimensional C 141 Airfoil Model

Download or read book Transonic Scaling Effect on a Quasi Two dimensional C 141 Airfoil Model written by C. F. Lo and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The transonic scaling effect of shock wave/boundary-layer interaction on a quasi, two-dimensional C-141 airfoil was investigated. Data were obtained from the AEDC Propulsion Wind Tunnel Facility Aerodynamic Wind Tunnel (4T) and Propulsion Wind Tunnel (16T) and from the NASA Marshall Space FLIGHT Center High Reynolds Number Tunnel with 6-in.- and 24-in.-chord airfoils for a range 0.70 to 0.85. In addition to the investigation of the effect of Reynolds number on the airfoil pressure distribution, the effect of fixed boundary-layer transition was evaluated using grit-type transition strips on the airfoil surface. The significant parameters affecting the shock wave/boundary-layer interaction are identified. The data indicate that simulation of higher Reynolds number data on the C-141 airfoil model is feasible by use of a fixed-boundary-layer-transition strip. (Author).
