Book Two dimensional Compressible Flow in Centrifugal Compressors with Logarithmic spiral Blades

Download or read book Two dimensional Compressible Flow in Centrifugal Compressors with Logarithmic spiral Blades written by Gaylord O. Ellis and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two numerical examples are presented for two-dimensional, compressible, nonviscous flow in centrifugal compressors with backward-curved, logarithmic-spiral blades. The two examples are for different blade angles and are compared with a third example for straight, radial blades. The numerical results are presented in tables of the stream-function distribution and in plots of the streamlines, constant Mach number lines, and constant-pressure-ratio lines. In addition, a simplified analysis for logarithmic-spiral blades is presented that can be used to determine flow conditions within the impeller except near the imperller tip and impeller inlet.

Book Two dimensional Compressible Flow in Centrifugal Compressors with Straight Blades

Download or read book Two dimensional Compressible Flow in Centrifugal Compressors with Straight Blades written by John D. Stanitz and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 712 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Six numerical examples are presented for steady, two-dimensional, compressible, nonviscous flow in centrifugal compressors with straight blades. A seventh example is presented for incompressible flow. The solutions also applye to radial-flow turbines with rotation and flow direction reversed. The effects of variations in following parameters were investigated: (1) flow rate, (2) impeller-tip speed, (3) variation of passage height with radius, and (4) number of blades. The numerical results are presented in plots of the streamlines, constant Mach number lines, and constant pressure-ratio lines. Correlation equations are developed whereby the flow conditions in any impeller with straight blades can be determined for all operating conditions.

Book Hovering Flight Tests of a Four engine transport Vertical Take off Airplane Model Utilizing a Large Flap and Extensible Vanes for Redirecting the Propeller Slipstream

Download or read book Hovering Flight Tests of a Four engine transport Vertical Take off Airplane Model Utilizing a Large Flap and Extensible Vanes for Redirecting the Propeller Slipstream written by Louis P. Tosti and published by . This book was released on 1955 with total page 692 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation of the take-off, landing, and hovering-flight characteristics of a four-engine-transport, vertical take-off airplane has been conducted with a remotely controlled free-flight model. The model had four propellers distributed along the wing with thrust axes parallel to the fuselage axis. In order to produce direct lift for hovering flight, the propeller slipstream was deflected downward about 70 degrees by a full-span 65-percent-chord flap deflected 90 degrees and eight extensible vanes arranged above the wing in a cascade relation.

Book Method of Matching Components and Predicting Performance of a Turbine propeller Engine

Download or read book Method of Matching Components and Predicting Performance of a Turbine propeller Engine written by Alois T. Sutor and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 706 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analytical expressions are derived to show the geometric, thermodynamic, and aerodynamic relations among compressor, turbine, and exhaust nozzle for a gas-turbine engine. For a known compressor performance map, a matching method is described to show some of the design compromises that must be made when the components are to be combined into a turbine-propeller engine. A method of predicting engine performance for a range of operating conditions from known component maps is presented. An illustrative example of the matching method and the performance analysis is presented, showing some of the practical limitations of engine operation.

Book The Spanwise Distribution of Lift for Minimum Induced Drag of Wings Having a Given Lift and a Given Bending Moment

Download or read book The Spanwise Distribution of Lift for Minimum Induced Drag of Wings Having a Given Lift and a Given Bending Moment written by Robert T. Jones and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of the minimum induced drag of wings having a given lift and a given span is extended to include cases in which the bending moment to be supported by the wing is also given. Expressions for the spanwise load distribution and the minimum drag in terms of the lateral position of the load centroid are given. The results show a 15-percent reduction of the induced drag with a 15-percent increase in span over that for an elliptic loading having the same total lift and bending moment.
