Book Two Basic Points in Georgian German Relations

Download or read book Two Basic Points in Georgian German Relations written by George Meskhi and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2012-05-31 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2011 in the subject Politics - Topic: History of Inernational Relations, grade: 96, , course: International Relations - European Studies, language: English, abstract: The relations between Georgia and Germany refer to the actual and progressively ongoing process. These relations have quite significant tradition in the last century. According to the official information “close and trustful relations between Germany and Georgia have the tradition of nearly 200 years”. Therefore the experience earned through the different historical points of German-Georgian relations can be used from nowadays as well as from the future perspective. Accordingly, the analyze of the important points in these relations and explaining certain circumstances of them should be worth of interest. Therefore the aim of our research is to clarify the certain points in the history of Georgian-German relations with the proper theoretical framework. Our research is dedicated to the two basic points of the history of German-Georgian relations. The first point is the relations connected to the declaration of independence by Georgia in 26 May 1918. The second one refers to the restoration of independence in 9 April 1991 based on the independence act of 26 May. These two dates had been the crucial points in the history of Georgia of the previous century. However, they had been the basic turning points in the history of German-Georgian relations as well. In the first case the basic motivation for starting the relations between Georgia and Germany was the issue of Georgian independence. In the second case the relations between Germany and Georgia has started after (but not immediately after) the declaration of independence as well. However, there is a significant difference between these two periods of Georgian-German relations. First of all, the symmetry of developing relations goes differently. In the first case the relations had started several years before the declaration of independence, which was the direct result of these relations, and finished shortly (several months) after declaring independence. In the second case the relations have started some time after the restoration of independence, the relations which still go on during the last couple of decades. Another difference, which has the basic importance for our research, is the fundamentally different attitude from the German side towards the first and second cases of declaring independence of Georgia. The research tries to clarify the reasons for such difference and explain it with the proper theoretical concept.

Book German American Relations in the 21st Century

Download or read book German American Relations in the 21st Century written by Klaus Larres and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-04-22 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: German-American relations have become interesting again. U.S. President Donald Trump’s lukewarm policy toward Europe has ensured that the relationship between Berlin and Washington is once again regarded as an important field of scholarship within global politics. And yet it was only a few years ago that German-American relations seemed to take second place to transatlantic relations in general, and the European Union (EU)–USA relationship in particular. The advent of Donald Trump as US President in January 2017 has made all the difference. Trump’s difficult personal relationship with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and his denigration of everything the Western world – including the USA itself – has stood for since 1949, have given a new significance to German-American relations in practice and theory. This volume offers an empirical and conceptual analysis of German-American relations in the 21st century and highlights the serious and perhaps unprecedented challenges the two countries face at present. The authors discuss a number of aspects of the current, much more fragile state of German-American relations from different perspectives. This book was originally published as a special issue of the journal German Politics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The region between the Baltic and the Black Sea was marked by a set of crises and conflicts in the 1920s and 1930s, demonstrating the diplomatic, military, economic or cultural engagement of France, Germany, Russia, Britain, Italy and Japan in this highly volatile region, and critically damaging the fragile post-Versailles political arrangement. The editors, in naming this region as "Middle Europe" seek to revive the symbolic geography of the time and accentuate its position, situated between Big Powers and two World Wars. The ten case studies in this book combine traditional diplomatic history with a broader emphasis on the geopolitical aspects of Big-Power rivalry to understand the interwar period. The essays claim that the European Big Powers played a key role in regional affairs by keeping the local conflicts and national movements under control and by exploiting the region's natural resources and military dependencies, while at the same time strengthening their prestige through cultural penetration and the cultivation of client networks. The authors, however, want to avoid the simplistic view that the Big Powers fully dominated the lesser players on the European stage. The relationship was indeed hierarchical, but the essays also reveal how the "small states" manipulated Big-Power disagreements, highlighting the limits of the latters' leverage throughout the 1920s and the 1930s.

Book Italian Soviet Relations from 1943 1946

Download or read book Italian Soviet Relations from 1943 1946 written by Francesco Randazzo and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2019-11-18 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the midst of the Second World War, the government of Benito Mussolini collapsed. This dictator had, for a decade, held Italy in a dangerous alliance with Nazi Germany. On September 3rd, 1943, in Cassibile, Sicily, the Italian General Castellano and the American General Eisenhower signed a Treaty in which they illustrated the very harsh conditions of Italy’s surrender and its passage alongside the Allies. The vicissitudes of this period led first to the imprisonment of Mussolini, and then to his daring liberation by the Nazis. On Italian territory, two governments, that of General Badoglio and that of the Republic of Salò, led by Mussolini’s party, faced each other, while the Allies landed in Sicily and Anzio. In Lazio, the Allies began their action against the Nazi-Fascists who were retreating towards the north of the peninsula. In the meantime, relations between Italy and the Soviet Union resumed, and, in 1944, Pietro Quaroni, the first ambassador after the diplomatic break-up of 1940, was sent to Moscow. The book, through Italian diplomatic documents, reconstructs this delicate historical moment in Italo-Soviet relations in the final act of the Second World War.

Book Hermeneutics Politics and the History of Religions

Download or read book Hermeneutics Politics and the History of Religions written by Christian K. Wedemeyer and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume comprises papers presented at a conference marking the 50th anniversary of Joachim Wach's death, and the centennial of Mircea Eliade's birth. Its purpose is to reconsider both the problematic, separate legacies of these two major twentieth-century historians of religions, and the bearing of these two legacies upon each other. Shortly after Wach's death in 1955, Eliade succeeded him as the premiere historian of religions at the University of Chicago. As a result, the two have been associated with each other in many people's minds as the successive leaders of the so-called "Chicago School" in the history of religions. In fact, as this volume makes clear, there never was a monolithic Chicago School. Although Wach reportedly referred to Eliade as the most astute historian of religions of the day; the two never met, and their approaches to the study of religions differed significantly. Several dominant issues run through the essays collected here: the relationship between the two men's writings and their lives, and in Eliade's case, the relationship between his political commitments and his writings in fiction, history of religions, and autobiography. Both men's contributions to the field continue to provoke controversy and debate, and this volume sheds new light on these controversies and what they reveal about these two `scholars' legacies.
