Often, different versions will be offered for the same tune, providing variety and a way to learn more concepts, skills, and ideas that can be used in other tunes. the goal is to play along with the two included CDs. Special features of this volume are some optional twin fiddle parts and tips on twin fiddling. These pieces are great for teachers to use with students or for students to play with friends.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a selection of fiddle tunes arranged for two violas. the idea is to supply a sampling of melodies that will be fun for beginning players. One of the drawbacks of the classic way of teaching viola is the boredom of some of the early pedagogic repertoire. This book is meant to be an antidote to that tedium. Fiddle tunes are great ways to become accustomed to typical manipulations of major scales and to introduce the sound of arpeggios. the tunes were chosen for their fun melodic content while demonstrating some typical aspects of fiddling. They are grouped in five categories: fiddle tunes, slow tunes, bluegrass, jigs, and rags and swing. the included split-track CD demonstrates many of the tunes with guitar accompaniment.

Book The Fiddler s Fakebook

Download or read book The Fiddler s Fakebook written by David Brody and published by Oak Publications. This book was released on 1983-01-06 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author’s preface: “This book was conceived four years ago, almost to the day, at a time when I was teaching fiddle and mandolin in New York City. It was my idea then, with my students in mind, to compile a book of the most often played, most important and most interesting fiddle tunes from the various Celtic and North American traditions. The tunes were chosen by cataloging a large number of recordings by tune title. A tally was taken to find out which had been recorded most often. This established a foundation of material that could not be left out. To this list I added the names of other pieces which had not been recorded as frequently, but which I knew were played regularly and with respect. I admit to sprinkling the collection with a few lesser known tunes which happen to be personal favorites, but I am sure they will hold their own when placed next to the old war horses of the fiddler’s repertoire. . . . Although I started out with my students in mind this book has turned out to be the book that I’ve always wanted and I hope that it will serve the advanced player as well as the beginner.”

Book Warm Ups for the Violists Made Easy

Download or read book Warm Ups for the Violists Made Easy written by Carol Ann Wheeler and published by Mel Bay Publications. This book was released on 2012-02-27 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Warm-ups for the Violist is an adaptation of Warm-ups for the Violinist. It is targeted to help build, strengthen and develop the muscles and techniques needed for viola playing. It is especially suited and created for the more casual violist who is sincerely interested in getting maximum benefit from a minimum of effort.I first tested these scales and exercises on myself for six months, faithfully using them for about 20 minutes as warm-ups to my daily practice. I was rewarded with a definite improvement in my technique. I was actually surprised to see my dexterity grow as I charted my metronomic progress on a calendar. I remember thinking, I will never be able to play faster than this. But then a couple of weeks later I would indeed climb a notch higher!Through the years I have used these exercises in countless workshops and with private students. the letters of thanks and positive feedback from students who were thrilled with improved violin and fiddle technique have brought me great satisfaction. Progress with these exercises is like the progress of a body builder. Body builders do not get up in the morning and think, I am going to develop and build my muscles today, and instantly look like Mr. Atlas. It takes weeks, months and for some, years, to attain results. It must be done over a period of time. Like all diets and exercise programs, determination and dedication are most important to success!I sincerely believe that these exercises, when faithfully practiced, will help violists improve their skills. the exercises will help develop and strengthen muscles used for finger dexterity, clarity of notes, tone, bowing-arm control, intonation, double stops, and a flexible bowing-arm wrist.A companion audio play-along recording is available online.
