Download or read book Twenty Years Of Bialowieza A Mathematical Anthology Aspects Of Differential Geometric Methods In Physics written by S Twareque Ali and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005-01-27 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume marks the twentieth anniversary of the Bialowieza series of meetings on Differential Geometric Methods in Physics; the anniversary meeting was held during July 1-7, 2001. The Bialowieza meetings, held every year during the first week of July, have now grown into an annual pilgrimage for an international group of physicists and mathematicians. The topics discussed at the meetings, while within the broad area of differential geometric methods in physics, have focused around quantization, coherent states, infinite dimensional systems, symplectic geometry, spectral theory and harmonic analysis. The present volume brings together a set of specially invited papers from leading experts in the various fields, who have contributed to these meetings and whose work represents a cross-section of the topics discussed. Consequently, rather than a proceedings volume, this book embodies the spirit of the Bialowieza workshops and reflects their scientific tenor, as a tribute to the completion of two decades of a shared scientific experience. This book will be of interest to researchers and graduate students working in the area of differential geometric methods in physics, as it gives interesting glimpses into the present state of the art from different points of view.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professor Gerard G. Emch has been one of the pioneers of the C-algebraic approach to quantum and classical statistical mechanics. In a prolific scientific career, spanning nearly five decades, Professor Emch has been one of the creative influences in the general area of mathematical physics. The present volume is a collection of tributes, from former students, colleagues and friends of Professor Emch, on the occasion of his 70th birthday. The articles featured here are a small yet representative sample of the breadth and reach of some of the ideas from mathematical physics. It is also a testimony to the impact that Professor Emch's work has had on several generations of mathematical physicists as well as to the diversity of mathematical methods used to understand them.
Download or read book Spectral Analysis of Differential Operators written by Fedor S. Rofe-Beketov and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first monograph devoted to the Sturm oscillatory theory for infinite systems of differential equations and its relations with the spectral theory. It aims to study a theory of self-adjoint problems for such systems, based on an elegant method of binary relations. Another topic investigated in the book is the behavior of discrete eigenvalues which appear in spectral gaps of the Hill operator and almost periodic SchrAdinger operators due to local perturbations of the potential (e.g., modeling impurities in crystals). The book is based on results that have not been presented in other monographs. The only prerequisites needed to read it are basics of ordinary differential equations and operator theory. It should be accessible to graduate students, though its main topics are of interest to research mathematicians working in functional analysis, differential equations and mathematical physics, as well as to physicists interested in spectral theory of differential operators."

The articles presented are mathematically rigorous, include important physical implications and address the application of geometry in classical and quantum physics. Special attention deserves the session devoted to discussions of Gerard Emch's most important and lasting achievements in mathematical physics. The Białowieża workshops are among the most important meetings in the field and gather participants from mathematics and physics alike. Despite their long tradition, the Workshops remain at the cutting edge of ongoing research. For the past several years, the Białowieża Workshop has been followed by a School on Geometry and Physics, where advanced lectures for graduate students and young researchers are presented. The unique atmosphere of the Workshop and School is enhanced by the venue, framed by the natural beauty of the Białowieża forest in eastern Poland.

Download or read book Topics in Contemporary Mathematical Physics written by Kai Shue Lam and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook, pitched at the advanced-undergraduate to beginning-graduate level, focuses on mathematical topics of relevance in contemporary physics that are not usually covered in texts at the same level. Its main purpose is to help students appreciate and take advantage of the modern trend of very productive symbiosis between physics and mathematics. Three major areas are covered: (1) linear operators; (2) group representations and Lie algebra representations; and (3) topology and differential geometry. The features of this work include: an exposition style which is a fusion of those common in the standard physics and mathematics literatures; a level of exposition that varies from quite elementary to moderately advanced, so that the text should be of interest to a wide audience; a strong degree of thematic unity, despite the diversity of the topics covered; and cross references, so that, from any part of the book, the reader can trace easily where specific concepts or techniques are introduced.

Download or read book Langevin And Fokker planck Equations And Their Generalizations Descriptions And Solutions written by Sau Fa Kwok and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2018-03-07 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This invaluable book provides a broad introduction to a rapidly growing area of nonequilibrium statistical physics. The first part of the book complements the classical book on the Langevin and Fokker-Planck equations (H. Risken, The Fokker-Planck Equation: Methods of Solution and Applications (Springer, 1996)). Some topics and methods of solutions are presented and discussed in details which are not described in Risken's book, such as the method of similarity solution, the method of characteristics, transformation of diffusion processes into the Wiener process in different prescriptions, harmonic noise and relativistic Brownian motion. Connection between the Langevin equation and Tsallis distribution is also discussed.Due to the growing interest in the research on the generalized Langevin equations, several of them are presented. They are described with some details.Recent research on the integro-differential Fokker-Planck equation derived from the continuous time random walk model shows that the topic has several aspects to be explored. This equation is worked analytically for the linear force and the generic waiting time probability distribution function. Moreover, generalized Klein-Kramers equations are also presented and discussed. They have the potential to be applied to natural systems, such as biological systems.

Download or read book Quantization Coherent States and Complex Structures written by J-P Antoine and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The XIIIth Bialowieza Summer Workshop was held from July 9 to 15, 1994. While still within the general framework of Differential Geometric Methods in Physics, the XnIth Workshop was expanded in scope to include quantum groups, q-deformations and non-commutative geometry. It is expected that lectures on these topics will now become an integral part of future workshops. In the more traditional areas, lectures were devoted to topics in quantization, field theory, group representations, coherent states, complex and Poisson structures, the Berry phase, graded contractions and some infinite-dimensional systems. Those of us who have taken part in the evolution of the workshops over the years, feel a good measure of satisfaction with the excellent quality of the papers presented, in particular the mathematical rigour and novelty. Each year a significant number of new results are presented and future directions of research are discussed. Their freshness and immediacy inevitably leads to intense discussions and an exchange of ideas in an informal and physically charming environment. The present workshop also had a higher attendance than its predecessors, with ap proximately 65 registered participants. As usual, there was a large number of graduate students and young researchers among them.

Download or read book COME CLOSER written by Vit Havranek and published by National Geographic Books. This book was released on 2021-02-02 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A reader on issues of race, class, and gender in post-Socialist states from an artworld perspective. Come Closer: The Biennale Reader, published on the occasion of the inaugural Prague biennale, considers the present via counter-hegemonic readings of the past. The book explores various perspectives of class, race, and gender differences in post-socialist states, past and present. In societies today that can seem fragmented, alienated, and sealed-off, a feeling of "us" and "them" can potentially emerge. The reliance on a common language to bring people closer often does the opposite, leading to feelings of contempt, anxiety, and fear. By drawing attention to themes of intimacy, care, and empathy, the contributions in this book search for new types of communication that can bring people together. Like language, art can be used to mediate these differences, and to examine issues relating to how people coexist in society. Come Closer comprises republished texts as well as newly commissioned contributions from both emerging and established artists, social and political scientists, and art historians from Eastern Europe, Asia, and the United States. Contributors Jérôme Bazin, Heather Berg, Pavel Berky, Anna Daučíková, Patrick D. Flores, Isabela Grosseová, Vít Havránek, Marie Iljašenko, Rado Ištok, Barbora Kleinhamplová, Eva Koťátková, Kateřina Lišková, Ewa Majewska, Tuan Mami, Alice Nikitinová, Alma Lily Rayner, Sarah Sharma, Jirka Skála, Adéla Souralová, Edita Stejskalová, Tereza Stejskalová, Matěj Spurný, Ovidiu Tichindeleanu, Simone Wille
