Book excerpt: Excerpt from Eleventh Annual Report of the Industrial Accident Board: For the Twelve Months Ending June 30th, 1926 During the fiscal year ending June 30, 1926, accidents were reported to and handled by the Board. This is 988 more cases than were handled during the preceding year and is by far the greatest number of accidents handled in any single year since the creation of the department. The total amount paid out in compensation under all plans was $750, during the year. This is a far larger compensation disbursement than has heretofore been made in any single year. It is approximately more than the disbursement for the preceding fiscal year. The increased disbursement is due, of course, to two causes. First, the increased number of accidents and secondly, the fact that the last legisla ture liberalized and increased the amount of compensation benefit pay able in many cases. It has grown to be a practice for each department to print and widely circulate voluminous reports. Generally, these 're ports are not closely read. Those who are directly interested in the activities Of the department sketch thru its reports, gathering an idea of the volume of business it handles, the method of handling such business and the accomplishments Of the department, together with some conclusions as to the efficiency with which the department is being conducted. It is doubtful whether the general public pays more than passing notice to the detail matters that are covered in reports.
