Book excerpt: Excerpt from Sixth Annual Report of the Woman's Presbyterian Board of Missions of the Northwest We have experienced a common sorrow with all Christian workers, in the death of Mrs. Doremus, of New York. She was the originator of Woman's Work for Woman in heathen lands, and led the work until past the allotted three-score-years-and-ten of man's life. Faith was her strong staff, and on her banner was inscribed, The Lord loveth willing obedience. Well said her pastor, Her epitaph was written eighteen hundred years ago by Paul, in his description of the holy widow: Well reported of for good works: she hath brought up children; she hath lodged strangers; she hath washed the saints' feet; she hath relieved the af icted; she hath diligently followed every good work.' This book was released on 2015-07-26 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fifth Annual Report of the Woman's Presbyterian Board of Missions of the North-West The fifth annual convocation of the mission workers of this region must be a jubilee in this Centennial year of our nation. The first tree planted years ago, in this new country, was the cross. In all seasons it has budded, blossomed, and borne rich fruit. Millions of people, have eaten of this fruit, and grown strong in righteousness, thereby becoming fit representatives for Him who died upon that tree, that all men through that death might have eternal life. We believe we have partaken of that healing food, and we are permitted to carry or send it to others. Can any honor be greater, or joy deeper than ours? Have we improved our privileges? I dare not answer, for I remember the Israelitish king was reproved for numbering his army. His glory was not in numbers of soldiers, but in work done; in victories won. So our honor will be only in souls won from sin. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2017-01-24 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Twelfth Annual Report of the Woman's Board of Missions: Presented at Its Annual Meeting, in Springfield, Mass., January 13, 1880 Once more we stand upon the threshold which divides two years of the life of our Woman's Board of Missions - a brief resting-place between our past and our unknown future. As in former years, through the blessing of our Heavenly Father, we may still look backward thankfully, and forward hopefully. While we mourn over all our shortcomings, our lukewarmness, mistakes and failures, thoroughly conscious that whatever of suc cess or strength we may have has come from above, we yet rejoice most earnestly in all we have been able to accomplish. We rejoice at what our God has done through us; at the plans he has helped us to form and carry forward; at the ever-increasing confidence of the Christian women in our churches in our society, shown by constant accessions to our numbers; at the many seemingly unmistakable tokens of our 'master's approval. We rejoice to feel that, year by year, our work is becoming a living reality to hundreds of women who formerly gave only cool, indifferent approbation to a good object, but who now gladly give time and talents and money and prayer to a cause that lies very near their hearts. To bring the record of a year crowded with labor of various kinds within the limits of a half hour, will allow but the briefest mention of the more important points.
