Book excerpt: Good triumphs evil in every situation. Sometimes, it takes a while to recognize and realize, but it is so. You never know when an angel may approach you one day, so help those in need. Imagine another type of helpful host from heaven. Imagine a tweaker as one who tweaks happenings just enough to add more love and compassion in the future without changing the mainstream of history. Would it be a blessing having a being that would prevent you from making a wrong decision by eliminating a particular reason for having to choose? Imagine a future from which tweakers visit and do helpful things to lead people to the right path, which will add much love and compassion for their future. Imagine if you will a soul going to heaven and wishing to fight evil beside the angels in the war between good and evil. A tweaker is a being from an elite heavenly force, TSI (Tweaker Secret Intervention). Their souls and bodies are used as vessels compatible for time travel and for acceptable fixtures of mankind. Imagine tweakers with no sexual desires or jealousy, traveling to and fro through time as mates, paired for life of services, often for hundreds of years. Being telepathically in sync with their Tweaker Sentry Post and continuously monitored throughout each mission, with answers provided by higher knowledge as needed. Single or together, the missions satisfactorily completed, gives more and more love and compassion to the future. Imagine a tweaker traveling through time, stricken by lightning, thus loosing memory and tools, in only a white vinyl jumpsuit and slippers. Having all common knowledge except of personal identity and past with amnesia. A tweaker named Ja-Tabor wanders aimlessly yet feeling that he has a particular purpose. Follow him through relearning and reuniting with his mate. Imagine!

Book Tweaked A Crystal Meth Memoir

Download or read book Tweaked A Crystal Meth Memoir written by Patrick Moore and published by Citadel Press. This book was released on 2017-04-26 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This candid memoir of addiction and recovery shares an intimate chronicle of life from Midwestern childhood to NYC's drug-fueled underground. Patrick Moore's account of life as a crystal meth addict combines heartbreaking honesty with rare insight and surprising humor. It chronicles a twenty-year trip stretching from Moore's lonely childhood in Iowa to the day he sits, naked, in a Los Angeles rental, hallucinating about psycho-robbers while talking to a possum he's sure is God. Along the way, there are acid trips at the V.F.W., Dexetrim study halls, teeth-grinding nights of dancing and anonymous sex in New York City's hottest eighties clubs. He takes pictures of Andy Warhol, loses friends and lovers, and navigates a Byzantine underworld of cookers, users, club kids, dealers, and colorful characters as intense as the drug itself. Through Patrick's vivid retelling, you'll meet Lee, the glamorous bad boy with a taste for danger; Tony, the tweaker who likes to remove his eyebrows; Ding-Dong, the Depends-wearing, nearly blind housemate; Hisako, the artist and squatter with a fondness for hot plate cooking; "Mother" Judy, the tough, butch rehab counselor who takes no prisoners, and countless others on the road from crystal meth hell to eventual sobriety.

But control was something I'd lost a long time ago.’ Nic Sheff was drunk for the first time at age 11. In the years that followed, he would regularly smoke pot, do cocaine and ecstasy, and develop addictions to crystal meth and heroin. Even so, he felt like he would always be able to quit and put his life together whenever he needed to. It took a violent relapse one summer to convince him otherwise. In a voice that is raw and honest, Nic spares no detail in telling us the compelling true story of his relapse and the road to recovery. He paints an extraordinary picture for us of a person at odds with his past, with his family, with his substances, and with himself. Tweak is a raw, harrowing, and ultimately hopeful tale of the road from relapse to recovery and complements his father’s parallel memoir, Beautiful Boy. Praise for Nic Sheff:- ‘Difficult to read and impossible to put down.’Chicago Tribune 'Nic Sheff's wrenching tale is told with electrifying honesty and insight.' Armistead Maupin

Book Inside Case Based Explanation

Download or read book Inside Case Based Explanation written by Roger C. Schank and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2014-02-24 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the third volume in a series that provides a hands-on perspective on the evolving theories associated with Roger Schank and his students. The primary focus of this volume is on constructing explanations. All of the chapters relate to the problem of building computer programs that can develop hypotheses about what might have caused an observed event. Because most researchers in natural language processing don't really want to work on inference, memory, and learning issues, most of their sample text fragments are chosen carefully to de-emphasize the need for non text-related reasoning. The ability to come up with hypotheses about what is really going on in a story is a hallmark of human intelligence. The biggest difference between truly intelligent readers and less intelligent ones is the extent to which the reader can go beyond merely understanding the explicit statements being communicated. Achieving a creative level of understanding means developing hypotheses about questions for which there may be no conclusively correct answer at all. The focus of the lab, during the period documented in this book, was to work on getting a computer program to do that. The volume adopts a case-based approach to the construction of explanations which suggests that the main steps in the process of explaining a given anomaly are as follows: * Retrieve an explanation that might be relevant to the anomaly. * Evaluate whether the retrieved explanation makes sense when applied to the current anomaly. * Adapt the explanation to produce a new variant that fits better if the retrieved explanation doesn't fit the anomaly perfectly.

Can he outrun disaster long enough to turn things around? Joe Hustle is a survivor. A Gulf War vet and ex-con always one stumble away from catastrophe, he manages to scrape together enough money from various jobs to eke out a precarious existence on the darker fringes of Los Angeles. An impulsive offer to go on a road trip with Emily promises to take them out of harm’s way—but may only lead to more chaos. Part hard-boiled love story, part thriller, part portrait of a tormented yet resilient soul, Joe Hustle ratchets up the tension as it rockets from the after-hours clubs and dive bars of the mean streets of L.A. to the mansions of the Hollywood Hills and, finally, to the desolate highways of the Southwest. What emerges is a gritty portrait of a man who may be down but can never be counted out.

Book Questions and Information Systems

Download or read book Questions and Information Systems written by Thomas W. Lauer and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-04-15 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design and functioning of an information system improve to the extent that the system can handle the questions people ask. Surprisingly, however, researchers in the cognitive, computer, and information sciences have not thoroughly examined the multitude of relationships between information systems and questions -- both question asking and answering. The purpose of this book is to explicitly examine these relationships. Chapter contributors believe that questions play a central role in the analysis, design, and use of different kinds of natural or artificial information systems such as human cognition, social interaction, communication networks, and intelligent tutoring systems. Their efforts show that data structures and representations need to be organized around the questioning mechanisms in order to achieve a quick retrieval of relevant useful information.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Matthew Kirkpatrick’s debut, Light without Heat, is an inventive, surprising collection of short stories full of odd, marginal characters rendered with surreal humor and lyrical, often beautiful language. Formally playful, these stories take the shape of biographies, instructions, glossaries, and diagrams, all ultimately in the service of depicting characters with emotional intensity. Stories in the collection explore the flawed nature of memory, workplace malaise, the isolation of home, and the last throes of ending love. No two stories in Light without Heat are the same, yet all of them work toward sharing human experience in new, innovative ways.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 1986. In the age of the computer, conjecture about things mechanical has naturally led to the question of whether machines can think. As the emphasis on Artificial Intelligence (AI) has grown rapidly, questions about machine intelligence have begun to have a certain urgency. The question we are concerned with in this book is: If we can find a set of processes that machines can slavishly follow, and if by so doing, these machines can come up with creative thoughts, what would that tell us about human beings? If the machine's procedure was adapted from a human procedure, that is, if all the machine was doing was what we know people are doing, would we abandon our inherent skepticism about the abilities of machines, or would we demystify our inherent admiration for things human? In a sense, these are the issues dealt with in this book. The author says in a sense because this book is no way a philosophical treatise. Rather it is an exercise in Artificial Intelligence and in Cognitive Science, it is an attempt to come to understand one of the most complex problems of mind by examining some of the mechanisms of mind: to define the apparatus that underlies our ability to think.
