Book The Great Dane and Little Turtle

Download or read book The Great Dane and Little Turtle written by Sharon Bailhé and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013-06-04 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a strawberry-blonde, freckle-faced girl, I was fortunate to model for the famous illustrator Norman Rockwell, and later I was scouted by Oleg Cassini to model his fashion designs in Manhattan, New York. My French father, a VP of a Madison Avenue advertising agency, knew the world of modeling. He took me away, traveling and dining in the finest restaurants, as he did not want me to be in that world. When I had a family of my own, I continued the tradition of fine cuisine, as I had developed discriminating tastes. I rolled up my sleeves and began my cooking journey. The first cookbook I read was Gourmet Techniques of French Cooking by Louis Diat, who was a chef and teacher at the Ritz Carlton in Paris. I was hooked. As the Great Dane from Copenhagen and I, the Little Turtle, cooked side by side, I was brought back to my Swedish/Danish heritage from my mothers side, Kemp/Johansson. On my fathers side, my French heritage started in 1607 on the Bailhe family vineyard in Gaillac, near Toulouse in the southern Basque region. The story of The Great Dane and Little Turtle is about creating a new life. For a life with no love is like a harp with no strings. Come along as Little Turtles life begins to fall into place like a fairytale as she finds her way back to love, in one of the greatest love stories ever told.

Book The Great Barrier Reef

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ben Daley
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2014-07-17
  • ISBN : 113593441X
  • Pages : 270 pages

Download or read book The Great Barrier Reef written by Ben Daley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-07-17 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Great Barrier Reef is located along the coast of Queensland in north-east Australia and is the world's largest coral reef ecosystem. Designated a World Heritage Area, it has been subject to increasing pressures from tourism, fishing, pollution and climate change, and is now protected as a marine park. This book provides an original account of the environmental history of the Great Barrier Reef, based on extensive archival and oral history research. It documents and explains the main human impacts on the Great Barrier Reef since European settlement in the region, focusing particularly on the century from 1860 to 1960 which has not previously been fully documented, yet which was a period of unprecedented exploitation of the ecosystem and its resources. The book describes the main changes in coral reefs, islands and marine wildlife that resulted from those impacts. In more recent decades, human impacts on the Great Barrier Reef have spread, accelerated and intensified, with implications for current management and conservation practices. There is now better scientific understanding of the threats faced by the ecosystem. Yet these modern challenges occur against a background of historical levels of exploitation that is little-known, and that has reduced the ecosystem's resilience. The author provides a compelling narrative of how one of the world's most iconic and vulnerable ecosystems has been exploited and degraded, but also how some early conservation practices emerged.

Book Life Is Short and So Am I

Download or read book Life Is Short and So Am I written by Dylan Postl and published by ECW Press. This book was released on 2019-09-10 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heart, determination, and triumph This is the story of a boy who fell in love with wrestling before he was able to walk. Born with achondroplasia, a condition that causes disproportionate dwarfism, Dylan Postl had endured multiple surgeries by the age of 12. And yet, he held on to the dream that he would one day become a professional wrestler. Ignoring the naysayers and against doctors’ recommendations, Postl began training in his teens, and he soon began appearing on local independent shows. Before he turned 20, he was signed by WWE to play the role of Irish grappler Finlay’s feisty sidekick, Hornswoggle, and remained a fixture in the company for a full decade. While most of Postl’s adult life has been spent in the wild world of the wrestling industry, his is more than a story of a little person’s journey through a world of giants; it’s a memoir of elation and anguish, triumph and disappointment, and of how an endlessly positive outlook combined with the unwavering support of family and friends helped a long shot become a success in his industry and a loving, responsible father.
