One of the most successful rock acts of all time, Genesis enjoyed a longevity exceeded only by the likes of the Rolling Stones and the Kinks, and provided a launching pad for superstars Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins. Turn It On Again is the first book to document the complete history of this popular and influential band, bringing their story up-to-date while placing them in the context of their time. It explores the relationship between the band and the remarkable solo careers it spawned. Drawing on dozens of exclusive interviews with band members past and present, as well as the musicians' friends and associates, author Dave Thompson chronicles Genesis' evolution from progressive-rock visionaries to mainstream rock stars, and the continuing careers of its most famous alumni.

Book The Living Years

Download or read book The Living Years written by Mike Rutherford and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2015-02-10 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of Genesis is the rock legend of how a humble schoolboy band grew into a group of global superstars. At its center stood Mike Rutherford, driving the music from pioneering prog rock to chart-topping hits. Now for the first time, he tells the remarkable inside story of Genesis and his own band, Mike + The Mechanics. Against the rhythm of drink, drugs, and lineup changes, Mike's father, a World War II naval officer, always stood in the background. He would watch Genesis grow, supporting them from the very beginning when they toured Britain in the back of a bread van. Through extreme highs and lows, loyal Captain Rutherford was always there, earplugs at the ready. But when his father suddenly died, Mike was forced to reexamine their relationship and only then began to understand how much their lives had overlapped. The Living Years is a revealing memoir of the relationship between father and son and the story of how music, families, and friendship combine.

Book excerpt: Quintessentially British, Genesis spearheaded progressive rock in the 1970s, evolving into a chart-topping success through the end of the millennium. Influencing rock groups such as Radiohead, Phish, Rush, Marillion and Elbow, the experimental format of Genesis' songs inspired new avenues for music to explore. From the 23-minute masterpiece "Supper's Ready," via the sublime beauty of "Ripples" and the bold experimentation of "Mama", to hits such as "Invisible Touch" and "I Can't Dance," their material was inventive and unique. This book is the chronological history of the band's music, with critical analysis and key details of each of the 204 songs Genesis recorded and released.

Book Dining with Milton and Bunyan and other comic verse

Download or read book Dining with Milton and Bunyan and other comic verse written by Peter Goulding and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-02-08 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peter Goulding's fourth, or maybe fifth, (who's counting?) book of comic verse again delves the murky depths of the poet's imagination. There are still plenty of poems about murdering his wife and disposing of her body but there are darker poems too - the proliferation of tomatoes on Jupiter, the birth of Princess Charlotte and his critiques of the counties of Tipperary and Offaly, to name but four. His mind, which, to be frank, would be put to much better use, learning a trade or simply vegetating, is again employed solving many of the world's problems in rhyming couplets, villanelles and other fiendish weapons of mass destruction. Comes with a cultural health warning.

Book excerpt: My name is Erak Domolin, and I live on an earth colony planet, named New Terra in the Milky Way Galaxy. I was born into a family of witches. I have an Uncle John who runs a space cargo business. He has an Indian as a copilot, his name is Blind Owl. He is American Lakota Indian. John's ship is three hundred feet long and one hundred feet wide, with the control wings near the back. They curve down and out so as to look like wings. It has feathers painted on the wings, so it looks like a hawk. I stay with Blind Owl's family, sometimes, and as such, I learned a great deal about the Indian religion, and their way of looking at life and the world. We rescued a girl known as a Fay, from pirates. The Fay can do magic, to some degree, read minds, as well as talk to animals. They can make space ships go at incredible speeds. Kayla taught me a lot about life on the runs with Uncle John in outer space. Pirates are a constant trouble in space, and we are not exempt in that regards.

Book Imagining and the Transformation of Man

Download or read book Imagining and the Transformation of Man written by NEVILLE and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2014-11-14 with total page 691 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If one is looking for answers to the meaning of life and how to make a happier, richer existence (e.g., relationships, finances, health), then Neville's teaching from personal experience, testimonies from students, and his amazing visions paralleling and explaining the mysteries of the Old and New Testament will answer those questions. Learn his techniques, unleash your power to create, believe in your imaginary acts, and no power in this world can stop the desired results from appearing in your world. It's the only creative power, one that everyone is operating moment to moment. Learning how to direct it deliberately is essential to producing loving, positive changes in one's life. These 1963 lectures also begin a nine-year odyssey of discovering the deepest meanings of six visions of the end that had unfolded in Neville (1959-1963). The visions are the signs that this long journey as limited man; the terrible opacity and contraction is over, that the purpose of human life has been completed; man has endured and overcome six thousand years of amnesia plus the fires of experience and has emerged victorious. He's been transformed by his inner being (I Am or God) back into the divinity he truly is and always was.
