Book Turkish Business Culture

Download or read book Turkish Business Culture written by Zafer Parlar and published by Optimist Yayın Grubu. This book was released on 2019-10-01 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is human nature to judge people by their looks and behavior without considering their backgrounds. However, each of us goes through several different experiences that form our personal history. These experiences shape the way we think and behave throughout the years. When we are young, we like to try new things. Our behavior often lacks consistency. We try to find our way with a bit of a rebellious attitude. Then we start to mature, develop our own principles and ways of doing things while harmonizing with the people we interact with. Countries follow the same pattern with their economies and cultures. However, the general rules of doing business are more or less the same, as are the cultural behavior of countries. Foreign businesspeople from established countries—like adults looking at youngsters—often tend to ignore the age and the cultural background of Turkey when they make harsh judgments about the different ways of doing business in this country. The Turkish economy was semi-liberalized in 1984 and has been liberalizing since then. One should therefore always keep in mind that one is dealing with a “young” liberal business culture trying to figure out her own way between the traditions of her parents (developed during the closed-economy years) and her new liberal friends (whom she likes to hang out with) with- out getting hurt.

Book State and Business in Modern Turkey

Download or read book State and Business in Modern Turkey written by Ayse Bugra and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1994-01-01 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyzes the factors that shape business activity in Republican Turkey and examines the presence of some of these factors in other societies with highly different cultures and histories. Bugra's premise is that neither the institutional framework nor the behavioral regularities of a market economy emerge spontaneously following principles of a universally rational behavior. Rather, these reflect societal characteristics to be shaped by policy measures that ensure the smooth functioning of the market mechanism. The author investigates the sociopolitical context of Turkish entrepreneurship by looking at the development of the private sector in the Republican period; policy process under successive Republican governments; socially defined features of the holding company, the typical big-business unit; and the nature of business associations in Turkey. Her analysis is relevant both to the study of business organization and to the study of structural change in late-industrializing countries and former socialist societies where the shortcomings of standard economic approaches are clear.

Book Improving the cooperation of a mixed US Turkish project team

Download or read book Improving the cooperation of a mixed US Turkish project team written by Maike Seifert and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2015-09-17 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,0, University of Applied Sciences Essen, language: English, abstract: In times of globalization, countries all over the world have transformed to an interdependent economic system. Especially rising economic powers, such as Turkey, and the largest economic powers in the world, like the USA, face an increasing collaboration due to their economic importance to each other. The aim of this paper is the improvement of the cooperation of a mixed US-Turkish team by giving the reader an understanding about these two apparently very different countries. In order to understand the foundation of a cultural comparison a definition of culture is given. Then, some general information about the countries is provided. After explaining Hofstede’s cultural theory the Turkish and US American culture are analyzed according to three of Hofstede’s dimensions. Due to the scope of this paper and because of the aim of giving not only surface information it focuses on the dimensions ‘Power distance’, ‘Long-term orientation’ and ‘Individualism vs. Collectivism’ which are most important to a project team. These dimensions show not only differences but also similarities as a common base. Personal experiences and quotes from scientific literature underline the differences or equalities.

Book The Palgrave Handbook of Cross Cultural Business Negotiation

Download or read book The Palgrave Handbook of Cross Cultural Business Negotiation written by Mohammad Ayub Khan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-12-13 with total page 577 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global business management issues and concerns are complex, diverse, changing, and often intractable. Industry actors and policy makers alike rely upon partnerships and alliances for developing and growing sustainable business organizations and ventures. As a result, global business leaders must be well-versed in managing and leading multidimensional human relationships and business networks – requiring skill and expertise in conducting the negotiation processes that these entail. After laying out a foundation justifying the importance of studying negotiation in a global context, this book will detail conventional and contemporary theories regarding international engagement, culture, cultural difference, and cross-cultural interaction, with particular focus on their influence on negotiation. Building on these elements, the book will provide a broad array of country-specific chapters, each describing and analyzing the negotiation culture of businesspeople in a different country around the world. Finally, the book will look ahead, with an eye towards identifying and anticipating new trends and developments in the field of global negotiation. This text will appeal to scholars and researchers in international business, cross-cultural studies, and conflict management who seek to understand the challenges of intercultural communication and negotiation. It will provide trainers and consultants with the insights they need to prepare their clients for intercultural negotiation. Finally, the text will appeal to businesspeople who find themselves heading out to engage with counterparts in another country, or operating in other multinational environments on a regular basis.
