Download or read book Poultry Meat and Egg Production written by G. J. Mountney and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poultry Meat and Egg Production has been prepared primarily for use as a text for students taking their first courses in poultry manage ment. The general overall science and production practices currently in use in the industry have been characterized and described so that the student can gain insight into the industry. Reading portions of chapters before the lecture discussions and laboratory sessions will be helpful in giving students an understanding of the material. Also, this gives the instructor an opportunity to emphasize in the lectures areas of current concern in the industry, and to present topics of his or her choice in greater detail. We wish to acknowledge and thank the following scientists who reviewed and critically evaluated the several chapters and made many helpful suggestions: Dr. Bobby Barnett, Clemson University; Mr. D. O. Bell, University of California; Dr. Donald Bray (retired), University of Illinois; Dr. W. H. Book Turkey Production in California Classic Reprint

Download or read book Turkey Production in California Classic Reprint written by V. S. Asmundson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-10 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Turkey Production in California The turkey industry in California is a well-established branch of agri culture. Like many other agricultural enterprises of the state, the turkey industry is highly specialized. Thus, while there are many small farm flocks, a high percentage of the turkeys are raised in large units on farms where turkeys are the main source of revenue. Naturally, many problems face such an industry. These problems are at present the subject of much research activity and, in consequence, knowledge in many fields of direct interest to those engaged in the turkey industry is rapidly increasing. In the following pages, useful informa tion gathered from the experience of those engaged in various phases of the turkey industry, from the literature, and from work in progress in the California Agricultural Experiment Station, is presented. Growth of the Turkey Industry. - Turkey raising developed first in the New England states and gradually spread with settlers to other sec tions of the country. Turkey production was for a long time confined to small farm flocks in California and elsewhere, although commercial fiocks (that is, the production of turkeys as the main enterprise) were reported as early as 1888 in this state. For a long time, however, there was little progress in the turkey industry, and in fact, according to cen sus figures, some decrease in the number of turkeys raised in California occurred from 1890 to 1910. By 1920, turkey production again increased slightly, and in more recent years there has been a rapid growth, which reached a peak in 1936 followed by an apparent decrease in 1937. This book was released on 2016-06-20 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the late 1920s until 1965 Maplecrest Turkey Farms of Wellman, Iowa, was a leading pioneer in the modern commercial turkey industry. A. C. Gingerich, an Amish-Mennonite farmer and entrepreneur, was able to successfully develop his business from a handful of turkeys to make Wellman both a “Turkey Capital/Center of the World” and have it uniquely proclaimed as “Thanksgiving Town” by the late 1930s. The Maplecrest brand was known for its premium quality and was available, by name, in leading restaurants also by the late 1930s. This historical book looks at how the modern turkey industry was able to initiate itself largely through knowledge of disease prevention through sanitation means. Some chapters include topics such as how the turkeys were raised, processed and marketed, especially to Eastern markets, e.g. New York City, Boston, etc., and a chapter on World War II discusses the major role that Maplecrest played in producing not only turkeys, but beef, pork and lamb for the armed forces. Book Television in Turkey

Download or read book Television in Turkey written by Yeşim Kaptan and published by Palgrave Macmillan. This book was released on 2020-09-04 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited collection takes a timely and comprehensive approach to understanding Turkey’s television, which has become a global growth industry in the last decade, by reconsidering its geopolitics within both national and transnational contexts. The Turkish television industry along with audiences and content are contextualised within the socio-cultural and historical developments of global neoliberalism, transnational flows, the rise of authoritarianism, nationalism, and Islamism. Moving away from Anglo-American perspectives, the book analyzes both local and global processes of television production and consumption while taking into consideration the dynamics distinctive to Turkey, such as ethnic and gender identity politics, media policies and regulations, and rising nationalistic sentiments.
