Book excerpt: Turkey Management has been the go-to book on turkeys since 1939. The only trouble is, it has been out of print for decades! Thoughtful farmers, breeders, and hobbyists have had to seek out used copies of this book, often seeking in vain, especially for copies of the latest and most complete Sixth Edition. Now you can own a new copy of the Sixth Edition of Turkey Management, with over a thousand pages of turkey lore and 120 illustrations. Incubating, brooding, rearing, feeding, finishing, showing, breeding, free range: it's all here. First published in 1955, this Sixth Edition of Turkey Management was published after all of the revolutions in poultry science had taken place, so it's modern, but before small turkey flocks and free range had vanished and their techniques forgotten. Because it was written before the shift to factory farming, Turkey Management focuses on things you can do yourself: homemade shelters and feeders, feed rations that rely on regional crops, and the use of natural ingredients for vitamins, minerals, and protein (rather than synthetic ingredients or vitamin/mineral premixes). This gives you a better understanding of how all pieces fit together, even if you never pick up a hammer or mix your own feed. Turkey Management is volume 7 of the Norton Creek Classics series. Book Fishers and Scientists in Modern Turkey

Download or read book Fishers and Scientists in Modern Turkey written by Ståle Knudsen and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2009 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through the ethnography and history of fish production, seafood consumption, state modernizing policies and marine science, this book analyzes the role of local knowledge in the management of marine resources on the Eastern Black Sea coast of Turkey. Fishing, science and other ways of knowing and relating to fish and the sea are analyzed as particular ways of life conditioned by history, ideology and daily practice. The approach adopted here allows for a broader analysis of the role knowledge plays in the management of common pool resources (CPR) than is provided in much of the contemporary CPR debate that tends to have a somewhat narrow focus on institutions and rules. By contrast, the author argues that also local knowledge and the larger historical and ideological context of production, as manifest in state modernization policies and consumption patterns, should be taken into account when trying to explain the current management regime in Turkish Black Sea fisheries.

Book The Old Pro Turkey Hunter

Download or read book The Old Pro Turkey Hunter written by Gene Nunnery and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2018-10-18 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During his life, Gene Nunnery was recognized as a master turkey hunter and an artisan who crafted unique, almost irresistible turkey calls. In The Old Pro Turkey Hunter, the vaunted sportsman shares over fifty years of personal experience in Mississippi and surrounding states, along with the decades-old wisdom of the huntsmen who taught him. Throughout the book, his stories make clear that turkey hunting is more than just killing the bird—it is about matching wits with a wild and savvy adversary. As Nunnery explains, “To me that’s what it’s all about: finding a wise old gobbler who will test your skill as a turkey hunter.” Through his stories, Nunnery reveals that the true reward for successful turkey hunting lies in winning the contest, not necessarily exterminating the foe. Real sportsmen know that every now and then the turkey should and will elude the hunter. As Nunnery looks back on his extensive career, he analyzes vast differences in practice, old and new. The shift, he decides, came during his last twenty years on the hunt, and that difference has only increased in the decades since this book was originally published. Michael O. Giles, Bass Pro staff team member, master turkey hunter, and award-winning outdoors writer and author of Passion of the Wild, writes a new foreword that brings the practice of turkey hunting into the present day. Filled with a tested mixture of common sense and specific examples of how master turkey hunters honor their harvest and heritage, The Old Pro Turkey Hunter is the perfect companion for the novice or the adept.

Book Handbook of Research on Global Challenges for Improving Public Services and Government Operations

This book was released on 2020-11-20 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the field of public administration has been changing due to globalization, government reforms, and increasing governance practices within intergovernmental networks, research and teaching in public administration also adapted itself to these changes. Public policy research and instruction has become transformed and has diffused into other countries with the help of international organizations and other agents of change and transfer. Research in this field is seen as an opportunity for a definitive shift from traditional models of public administration in the sense that policies may be better designed, articulated, and governed through a collaborative approach, while service provision could be enhanced in terms of proximity, representativeness, and innovativeness. The Handbook of Research on Global Challenges for Improving Public Services and Government Operations provides comprehensive approaches to the study of public administration and public policy from a comparative perspective and includes sound theories and concepts for understanding opportunities and challenges governments face when seeking to improve public services and government operations. The book is a compilation of selective high-quality chapters covering cases, experiences, and practical recommendations on topics related to public administration, public policy, social policy, public management, and public affairs. This book is ideal for policymakers, students, and researchers in the field of public administration, public policy, governance, public management, public affairs, citizen engagement, and administrative sciences and management along with practitioners, stakeholders, and academicians interested in the best practices of various countries in public administration and policy.

Book Tenth Legion

Download or read book Tenth Legion written by Tom Kelly and published by Tom Kelly, Inc.. This book was released on 2021 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tenth Legion has long been considered the greatest - and most hilarious - book on turkey hunting. Yet until now it was only available in a privately published edition. Many people who hunt turkeys do so with an attention to detail, a regard for strategy, tactics, and operations, and a disregard for personal comfort and convenience that ranks second only to war. As for all cultists, it never occurs to them that they may be anachronisms. Supremely unconscious of the rest of the world, blind and deaf to logic and reason, they walk along their different roads in step to the music of their different drums.

Book The Turkey

    Book Details:
  • Author : Andrew F. Smith
  • Publisher : University of Illinois Press
  • Release : 2010-10-01
  • ISBN : 0252092422
  • Pages : 267 pages

Download or read book The Turkey written by Andrew F. Smith and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2010-10-01 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Talking turkey” about the bird you thought you knew Fondly remembered as the centerpiece of family Thanksgiving reunions, the turkey is a cultural symbol as well as a multi-billion dollar industry. As a bird, dinner, commodity, and as a national icon, the turkey has become as American as the bald eagle (with which it actually competed for supremacy on national insignias). Food historian Andrew F. Smith’s sweeping and multifaceted history of Meleagris gallopavo separates fact from fiction, serving as both a solid historical reference and a fascinating general read. With his characteristic wit and insatiable curiosity, Smith presents the turkey in ten courses, beginning with the bird itself (actually several different species of turkey) flying through the wild. The Turkey subsequently includes discussions of practically every aspect of the iconic bird, including the wild turkey in early America, how it came to be called “turkey,” domestication, turkey mating habits, expansion into Europe, stuffing, conditions in modern industrial turkey factories, its surprising commercial history of boom and bust, and its eventual ascension to holiday mainstay. As one of the easiest of foods to cook, the turkey’s culinary possibilities have been widely explored if little noted. The second half of the book collects an amazing array of over one hundred historical and modern turkey recipes from across America and Europe. From sandwiches to salmagundi, you’ll find detailed instructions on nearly every variation on the turkey. Historians will enjoy a look back at the varied appetites of their ancestors and seasoned cooks will have an opportunity to reintroduce a familiar food in forgotten ways.
