Book Turbulent Natural Convection in a Differentially Heated Square Cavity

Download or read book Turbulent Natural Convection in a Differentially Heated Square Cavity written by Warit Chanprasert and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural convection in a side or differentially heated cavity is a classical problem in heat transfer. The problem represents a wide range of engineering applications and has also been commonly used as a benchmark problem for validating Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) computer programs. This study investigates turbulent natural convection of a fluid with a Prandtl number of 0.71 in a differentially heated square cavity with adiabatic top and bottom walls. Two different boundary conditions are applied to the side walls; (1) the standard isothermal side wall problem, and (2) the mixed isoflux/isothermal problem, which has a constant heat flux on the heated side wall with an isothermal cold wall on the opposite side. An experimental study is carried out to determine the net convective heat transfer between isothermal hot and cold walls for a range of wall temperature differences in the laminar flow regime. The experiment data is compared with CFD predictions, and they are found to be in reasonable agreement......

Book Domain Decomposition Methods in Science and Engineering

Download or read book Domain Decomposition Methods in Science and Engineering written by Ralf Kornhuber and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-03-30 with total page 686 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Domain decomposition is an active, interdisciplinary research area that is devoted to the development, analysis and implementation of coupling and decoupling strategies in mathematics, computational science, engineering and industry. A series of international conferences starting in 1987 set the stage for the presentation of many meanwhile classical results on substructuring, block iterative methods, parallel and distributed high performance computing etc. This volume contains a selection from the papers presented at the 15th International Domain Decomposition Conference held in Berlin, Germany, July 17-25, 2003 by the world's leading experts in the field. Its special focus has been on numerical analysis, computational issues, complex heterogeneous problems, industrial problems, and software development.

Book Numerical Study of Natural Convection in Square Partitioned and Non partitioned Enclosures

Download or read book Numerical Study of Natural Convection in Square Partitioned and Non partitioned Enclosures written by Prasart Sukkaset and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heat transfer characteristics and associated temperature and flow fields for natural convection in two-dimensional, square, partitioned and non-partitioned enclosures have been determined for Grashof numbers ranging from 103 to 106. The vertical side walls of the enclosure are isothermal with all other surfaces assumed to be adiabatic. An adiabatic partition is oriented vertically with one edge on the enclosure floor. The dimensions and location of the partition were varied in order to investigate its effect of natural convection in the enclosure. Air was taken as the working fluid. Transport equations for vorticity and energy were solved using the QUICKEST scheme while the Poisson equation, for the steamfunction, was solved using the SOR method. For any Grashof number, temperature and flow fields in the region above the partition are not significantly different from those of the non-partitioned enclosure in the case of an aperture ratio of 0.75 or greater. An increase in the partition height or width results in modifying the temperature and flow fields and decreasing the average heat transfer across the enclosure.

Book The Boltzmann Equation and Its Applications

Download or read book The Boltzmann Equation and Its Applications written by Carlo Cercignani and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Statistical mechanics may be naturally divided into two branches, one dealing with equilibrium systems, the other with nonequilibrium systems. The equilibrium properties of macroscopic systems are defined in principle by suitable averages in well-defined Gibbs's ensembles. This provides a frame work for both qualitative understanding and quantitative approximations to equilibrium behaviour. Nonequilibrium phenomena are much less understood at the present time. A notable exception is offered by the case of dilute gases. Here a basic equation was established by Ludwig Boltzmann in 1872. The Boltzmann equation still forms the basis for the kinetic theory of gases and has proved fruitful not only for a study of the classical gases Boltzmann had in mind but also, properly generalized, for studying electron transport in solids and plasmas, neutron transport in nuclear reactors, phonon transport in superfluids, and radiative transfer in planetary and stellar atmospheres. Research in both the new fields and the old one has undergone a considerable advance in the last thirty years.

Book Direct and Large Eddy Simulation XI

Download or read book Direct and Large Eddy Simulation XI written by Maria Vittoria Salvetti and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-02 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers the proceedings of the 11th workshop on Direct and Large Eddy Simulation (DLES), which was held in Pisa, Italy in May 2017. The event focused on modern techniques for simulating turbulent flows based on the partial or full resolution of the instantaneous turbulent flow structures, as Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS), Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) or hybrid models based on a combination of LES and RANS approaches. In light of the growing capacities of modern computers, these approaches have been gaining more and more interest over the years and will undoubtedly be developed and applied further. The workshop offered a unique opportunity to establish a state-of-the-art of DNS, LES and related techniques for the computation and modeling of turbulent and transitional flows and to discuss about recent advances and applications. This volume contains most of the contributed papers, which were submitted and further reviewed for publication. They cover advances in computational techniques, SGS modeling, boundary conditions, post-processing and data analysis, and applications in several fields, namely multiphase and reactive flows, convection and heat transfer, compressible flows, aerodynamics of airfoils and wings, bluff-body and separated flows, internal flows and wall turbulence and other complex flows.
