Book Prediction Methods for Turbulent Incompressible Flow in Conical Diffusers

Download or read book Prediction Methods for Turbulent Incompressible Flow in Conical Diffusers written by Stanley C. Titcomb and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of the study is to provide a method which is capable of predicting the entire mean-velocity field in a conical diffuser when the inlet velocity field is turbulent, incompressible, and completely specified. The desired prediction method is divided into two phases. In the first phase, a method for predicting the growth of the displacement and momentum thicknesses is considered. For the known straight-walled conical configuration, the value of the displacement thickness is sufficient to specify the freestream velocity at any point along the axis of the diffuser. Therefore, in the second phase, a method for predicting the velocity profile in the boundary layer using the integral parameters and the free-stream velocity is considered. Several prediction methods to forecast the growth of the integral parameters are proposed. The conical diffuser data from the literature is used as a means for evaluating the applicability of the proposed methods. (Author).

Book Numerical Analysis of Turbulent Separated Subsonic Diffuser Flows

Download or read book Numerical Analysis of Turbulent Separated Subsonic Diffuser Flows written by J. C. Chien and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A general finite difference formulation of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in terms of the vorticity and the stream function is presented for turbulent internal flows. Turbulent models such as algebraic eddy viscosity models, and the low Reynolds number two-equation k-epsilon models were systematically studied. Numerical solutions are presented for both separated and non-separated subsonic diffuser flows with either a sublayer coordinate stretching or a low of the wall matching procedure. Excellent agreement with experimental data is obtained for the fully developed channel flow. Agreement with data from an 8-deg conical diffuser is also good. The detailed flow-field structure for separated diffuser flows can be obtained including the prediction of the separation point. (Author).

Book Instabilities and Turbulence in Engineering Flows

Download or read book Instabilities and Turbulence in Engineering Flows written by D. Ashpis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains contributions by colleagues, former students and friends of Professor Eli Reshotko in celebration of his 60th birth day. Since Professor Reshotko's scientific and engineering contribu tions have been in the areas of hydrodynamic stability, transition to turbulence, and boundary layer flows, it is only appropriate that the articles in this volume be devoted to these and related topics. The first two sections focus on instabilities and transition in sub sonic and supersonic flows, respectively. The third section deals with developing turbulence, while the the final section treats related prob lems in engineering fluid mechanics. The diversity and scope of the articles contained herein exemplify the insight and expertise required in the study of transitional and turbulent flows today - traits which also exemplify Eli Reshotko's contributions to these fields. A few of the articles in this volume were presented at a sym posium in honor of Eli Reshotko's 60th birthday, held in Newport News, Virginia, on July 28, 1991. The symposium was sponsored by lCASE, and organized by M.Y. Hussaini (lCASE) and R. Hirsh (U.S. National Science Foundation). Of those who could not attend, many chose to honor Professor Reshotko by a contribution to the volume dedicated to him. We would like to use this opportunity to express our deep ap preciation to M.Y. Hussaini for initiating this very special tribute to Eli, and to Ms. Emily Todd for her efforts in the volume preparation and in the organization of the symposium.

Book Numerical Computation of Subsonic Conical Diffuser Flows with Nonuniform Turbulent Inlet Conditions

Download or read book Numerical Computation of Subsonic Conical Diffuser Flows with Nonuniform Turbulent Inlet Conditions written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations are obtained and results presented for conical diffuser flows with turbulent nonuniform inlet conditions. The turbulent flow field is described by a two-equation, low-Reynolds-number k-epsilon model with a new turbulence model for axisymmetric flow. Fast convergence is achieved with an improved initial flow-field guess and a multiple grid Gauss-Seidel iteraction method. Comparisons are made with existing data for several diffuser divergence angles with and without flow separation. Good agreement was obtained between theory and experiment. (Author).
