Book Analysis of Turbulent Boundary Layers

Download or read book Analysis of Turbulent Boundary Layers written by Tuncer Cebeci and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis of Turbulent Boundary Layers focuses on turbulent flows meeting the requirements for the boundary-layer or thin-shear-layer approximations. Its approach is devising relatively fundamental, and often subtle, empirical engineering correlations, which are then introduced into various forms of describing equations for final solution. After introducing the topic on turbulence, the book examines the conservation equations for compressible turbulent flows, boundary-layer equations, and general behavior of turbulent boundary layers. The latter chapters describe the CS method for calculating two-dimensional and axisymmetric laminar and turbulent boundary layers. This book will be useful to readers who have advanced knowledge in fluid mechanics, especially to engineers who study the important problems of design.

Book Turbulent Boundary Layer Solution for Two dimensional Compressible Flow Using Mixing Length and K epsilon Turbulence Models

Download or read book Turbulent Boundary Layer Solution for Two dimensional Compressible Flow Using Mixing Length and K epsilon Turbulence Models written by M. Khalid and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The continuity, momentum and energy equations for two-dimensional compressible turbulent boundary layers are solved using the k-epsilon turbulence model and the extended mixing length approach to calculate the shear stress terms. The finite difference equations are set up applying Keller's box scheme and the resulting tridiagonal matrix system is solved by the block elimination method. Newton's iteration procedure is used to converge the solution. Results obtained from computations showed only a slight difference between the two methods. Both methods showed satisfactory agreement with experimental data for test cases.

Book Comparison of Several Mixing Length Models for Turbulent Boundary layer Computations

Download or read book Comparison of Several Mixing Length Models for Turbulent Boundary layer Computations written by Y. Y. Chan and published by 1970.. This book was released on 1970 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computational method for turbulent boundary layers in an incompressible two-dimensional flow was formulated. The governing differential equations for the mean flow are solved by an implicit finite differential equations for the mean flow are solved by an implicit finite difference method. The Reynolds shear stress is correlated by Prandtl's mixing length concept. Four models of correlation for the mixing length are studied and prediction based on these models is assessed by comparison with several sets of experimental data. It is found that models correlated only to local mean flow cannot adjust themselves to the proper turbulent state for highly non-equilibrium flow. If the turbulent state is considered explicitly by computing the mixing length from the turbulent energy equation, the results show excellent agreement with experimental data. This model is thus recommended for practical uses. (Author).

Book Microfluidics and Nanofluidics Handbook 2 Volume Set

Download or read book Microfluidics and Nanofluidics Handbook 2 Volume Set written by Sushanta K. Mitra and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2011-09-20 with total page 1767 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive, two-volume handbook on Microfluidics and Nanofluidics, this text covers fundamental aspects, fabrication techniques, introductory materials on microbiology and chemistry, measurement techniques, and applications with special emphasis on the energy sector. Each chapter begins with introductory coverage to a subject and then narrows in on advanced techniques and concepts, thus making it valuable to students and practitioners. The author pays special attention to applications of microfluidics in the energy sector and provides insight into the world of opportunities nanotechnology has to offer. Figures, tables, and equations to illustrate concepts.

Book Boundary Layer Flows

Download or read book Boundary Layer Flows written by Vallampati Ramachandra Prasad and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2023-02-22 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive overview of boundary layer flows, including laminar and turbulent flows. Chapters discuss such topics as the nature of transition, the effect of two-dimensional and isolated roughness on laminar flow, and progress in the design of low-drag airfoils. They also present theoretical and experimental results in boundary layer flows and discuss directions for future research.

Book A Critical Commentary on Mean Flow Data for Two dimensional Compressible Turbulent Boundary Layers

Download or read book A Critical Commentary on Mean Flow Data for Two dimensional Compressible Turbulent Boundary Layers written by Hans-Hermann Fernholz and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a discussion of mean flow profile data for compressible boundary layers. In AGARDograph 223, (Fernholz and Finley, 1977) the predecessor of this volume, data were presented for nominally two-dimensional flows for which mean flow profile data were available in tabular form. Data for 59 experimental boundary layer studies were given, with a brief introduction. Comment and discussion were reserved for this volume, AGARDograph 253. Suitable cross-references are given to relate the discussion in this volume to the earlier publication. The commentary in this volume includes discussion of the theroetical basis for interpretation of measurements, concepts from low-speed studies, interpretation of mean flow data with and without pressure gradient. The causes of normal pressure gradients are described, so as to allow an estimation of their magnitude, and their influence on boundary layer scale lengths. A third volume is planned in this series, which will include additional data, some of which is discussed here. This work was sponsored by the Fluid Dynamics Panel of AGARD. (Author).
