Book Reynolds Stress Modeling of Turbulent Open channel Flows

Download or read book Reynolds Stress Modeling of Turbulent Open channel Flows written by Sung-Uk Choi and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents numerical simulations of three-dimensional turbulent open-channel flows. In the simulations, Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations are solved with the Reynolds stress model for turbulence closure. The overall solution strategy is the SIMPLER algorithm, and the power-law scheme is used to discretise the convection and diffusion terms in the governing equations. The Reynolds stress model is applied to rectangular open-channel flows, partly-vegetated open-channel flows, and compound open-channel flows. The simulated mean flow and turbulence structures including streamwise mean velocity, secondary currents, turbulence intensity, and Reynolds stress, are provided and compared with measure data in the literature. As shown in this book, these comparisons reveal that the proposed Reynolds stress model successfully predicts the mean flow and turbulence statistics of turbulent open-channel flows.

Book Turbulent Flows

Download or read book Turbulent Flows written by G. Biswas and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book allows readers to tackle the challenges of turbulent flow problems with confidence. It covers the fundamentals of turbulence, various modeling approaches, and experimental studies. The fundamentals section includes isotropic turbulence and anistropic turbulence, turbulent flow dynamics, free shear layers, turbulent boundary layers and plumes. The modeling section focuses on topics such as eddy viscosity models, standard K-E Models, Direct Numerical Stimulation, Large Eddy Simulation, and their applications. The measurement of turbulent fluctuations experiments in isothermal and stratified turbulent flows are explored in the experimental methods section. Special topics include modeling of near wall turbulent flows, compressible turbulent flows, and more.

Book The Influence of Polymer Additives on Velocity and Temperature Fields

Download or read book The Influence of Polymer Additives on Velocity and Temperature Fields written by Bernhard Gampert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Symposium on "The Influence of Polymer Additives on Veloc ity and Temperature Fields" was proposed to the General Assem bly of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Me chanics (IUTAM) by the "Gesellschaft fur Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik" (GAMM). The Symposium was held under the auspices of IUTAM in association with the "Deutsche Rheologische Ge sellschaft" (DRG) with responsibility for the organization ly ing with B. Gampert (Universitat-GH-Essen). The main aim of this IUTAM Symposium was to consider the funda mental aspects of the phenomena that occur when small amounts of polymers are added to turbulent flows (turbulent drag re duction) and laminar porous media flows. In particular atten tion was devoted to - the influence of molecular parameters of the polymers and solution properties, especially the elongational viscosity, on turbulent flow and laminar porous media flow; the influence of polymers on the turbulence structure in polymer drag reduction

Book Direct Numerical Simulations DNS of Turbulent Flows in an Undulating Channel

Download or read book Direct Numerical Simulations DNS of Turbulent Flows in an Undulating Channel written by Luo Wang and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In summary, in this work we have developed and successfully tested all the necessary ingredients for a successful simulation of viscoelastic turbulent flow in a wavy channel. It is only a matter of time in future work to address the fine tuning of parameters such as the diffusivity, time integration scheme, etc. in order to successfully perform the very large scale simulations needed to reproduce viscoelastic turbulent flows in a wavy channel flow geometry.
