Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the inaugural symposium at the Pennsylvania State University in 1977, the venues for the series of biennial symposia on turbulent shear flows have alternated between the USA and Europe. For the Sixth Symposium, the first to be held in France, the city of Toulouse proved a natura] choice, being a centre for the aerospace industry, meteorological research and higher education. The meeting was hosted by the Paul Sabatier University on the southern perimeter of the city, and there nearly 300 workers in the field of turbulence converged to pronounce upon, debate and absorb the current issues in turbulent shear flows and to enjoy the unfailing September sunshine. The meeting had attracted more than 200 offers of papers from which just over 100 full papers and about 20 shorter communications in open forums could be accommodated. The present volume contains 28 of the original symposium presentations selected by the editors. Each contribution has been revised by its authors - sometimes quite extensively -in the light of the oral presentation. It is our hope that the selection provides a substantial statement of permanent interest on current research in the five areas covered by this book, i.e. fundamentals and closures, scalar transport and geophysical flows, aerodynamic flows, complex flows, and numerical simulations.

Book The Turbulent Flow in Diffusers of Small Divergence Angle

Download or read book The Turbulent Flow in Diffusers of Small Divergence Angle written by G. A. Gourzhienko and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The turbulent flow in a conical diffuser represents the type of turbulent boundary layer with positive longitudinal pressure gradient. In contrast to the boundary layer problem, however, it is not necessary that the pressure distribution along the limits of the boundary layer(along the axis of the diffuser) be given, since this distribution can be obtained from the computation. This circumstance, together with the greater simplicity of the problem as a whole, provides a useful basis for the study of the extension of the results of semiempirical theories to the case of motion with a positive pressure gradient. In the first part of the paper, formulas are derived for the computation of the velocity and.pressure distributions in the turbulent flow along, and at right angles to, the axis of a diffuser of small cone angle.

Book A Calculation Method for Incompressible Axisymmetric Flows Including Unseparated Fully Separated and Free Surface Flows

Download or read book A Calculation Method for Incompressible Axisymmetric Flows Including Unseparated Fully Separated and Free Surface Flows written by James Webb White and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An interacting zone method is developed for the analysis of completely stalled, turbulent, axisymmetric jet flows which are incompressible and nominally steady. The flow is treated as a mutual interaction problem; unlike the classical boundary layer theory, this method includes the effect of the stalled-zone blockage on the first order potential flow solution. Both a priori and ab initio predictions are obtained. A new integral turbulent boundary layer separation prediction method is developed in order to accurately predict the separation location and effective flow boundary near separation. Because the boundary layer equations require only the wall pressure from the potential flow, a new boundary integral solution is developed for the potential field. Unlike grid methods, the boundary integral method computes unknowns only over the flow boundary. By treating the stalled zone as a region of uniform (but initially unknown) pressure, the potential solution can iteratively locate the free surface. Speed of computation is significantly faster than existing grid methods for potential flow analysis. The resulting computer program provides analysis of the following types of axisymmetric flows: (1) Unseparated potential flow, with and without blowing or suction; (2) Free surface potential flow; (3) Unseparated turbulent diffuser flow; and (4) Completely separated turbulent jet flow. Book Numerical Analysis of Turbulent Separated Subsonic Diffuser Flows

Download or read book Numerical Analysis of Turbulent Separated Subsonic Diffuser Flows written by J. C. Chien and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A general finite difference formulation of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in terms of the vorticity and the stream function is presented for turbulent internal flows. Turbulent models such as algebraic eddy viscosity models, and the low Reynolds number two-equation k-epsilon models were systematically studied. Numerical solutions are presented for both separated and non-separated subsonic diffuser flows with either a sublayer coordinate stretching or a low of the wall matching procedure. Excellent agreement with experimental data is obtained for the fully developed channel flow. Agreement with data from an 8-deg conical diffuser is also good. The detailed flow-field structure for separated diffuser flows can be obtained including the prediction of the separation point. (Author).
