Book Infrared Difference Frequency Generation Using a Tunable Dye Laser

Download or read book Infrared Difference Frequency Generation Using a Tunable Dye Laser written by C. Forbes Dewey (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intense infrared radiation has been produced in the 3 to 4 micrometer region by generating the difference frequency between a wavelength-tunable dye laser and a -switched ruby laser. Saturation of the conversion of ruby photons to sum-and-difference frequencies was observed on a single pass through a phase-matched LiNbO3 crystal. The system appears to be attractive as a simple, highly-efficient, and broadly-tunable infrared source. (Author).

Download or read book Near Infrared Dyes for High Technology Applications written by S. Daehne and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarizes the results of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on "Syntheses, Optical Properties, and Applications of Near-Infrared (NIR) Dyes in High Technology Fields" held at Trest (Czech Republic) from September 24 to 27, 1997. It was attended by 52 scientists from 16 countries, among them 18 participants from 8 Eastern-Europe. The Workshop has been stimulated by the great progress that has been made in utilizing NIR dyes in high technology areas. This has been triggered by the availability of reliable. vel)' small, and inexpensive laser diodes emitting in the NIR region which raise the analytical detection limits by several orders of magnitude, allow time-resolved measurements for temporal discrimination between spectrally similar species, and make possible miniaturization as well as remote sensing through space and by fiber optical techniques. Furthermore, NIR dyes proved to be vel)' important in other high technology fields such as laser physics, optical recording techniques, nonlinear optics, biochemistty and medicine.

Download or read book Infrared Absorbing Dyes written by Masaru Matsuoka and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New laser technology has developed a new dye chemistry! Development of the gallium-arsenic semiconductor laser (diode laser) that emits laser light at 780-830 nm has made possible development of new opto-electronic systems including laser optical recording systems, thermal writing display systems, laser printing systems, and so on. Medical applications of lasers in photodynamic therapy for the treatment of cancer were also developed. In such systems, the infrared absorbing dyes OR dyes) are currently used as effective photoreceivers for diode lasers, and will become the key materials in high technology. At the present time the chemistry of IR dyes is the most important and interesting field in dye chemistry. Laser light can be highly monochromatic, very well collimated, coher ent, and, in some cases, extremely powerful. These characteristics make diode lasers a very cheap, convenient, and useful light source for a variety of applications in science and technology. For these purposes, however, IR dyes with special characteristics are required. To develop new IR dyes, it is most important to establish the correlation between the chemical structures of dyes and other characteristics of dyes, such as their absorption spectra. Molecular design of IR dyes predicting the Amax and Emax values by molecular orbital (MO) calculations is now possible even by using a personal computer, and many types of new IR dyes have been demonstrated. Also, new opto-electronic systems using IR dyes as photoreceivers have been reported recently.

Download or read book Tunable Lasers written by Jonathan C. White and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever since the invention of the laser itself, the spectroscopist has dreamed of lasers that could be tuned continuously over whatever set of resonances he wished to study. Two developments of the mid-1960s - the optical paramet ric oscillator and the dye laser - were the first to begin to fulfill that dream. The cw dye laser, with its ability to produce extremely narrow linewidths, was particularly successful and revitalized the study of atomic physics. Other, complementary developments soon followed. These included the excimer, color center, and high pressure gas lasers, as well as Raman shifting and four wave mixing techniques for further extending the tuning ranges of such primary tunable laser sources. By the end of the 1970s, continuously or quasi-continuously tunable coherent sources were thus available for the visible and the near infrared, and a good part of the ultraviolet and the far infrared. Despite the existence of a number of excellent treatises on individual tech nologies, to the best of our knowledge, no one has yet attempted to survey the entire field of tunable lasers in a single volume. The purpose of this book is to fill that void. It is particularly aimed at those who are not necessarily laser ex perts, but who may wish to discover quickly and with a minimum of effort the best technology to satisfy a particular problem, and what the possibilities and limitations of that technology are.

Book Electronically Tunable Filter and Dye Laser

Download or read book Electronically Tunable Filter and Dye Laser written by Richard W. Wallace and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The electronically tunable acousto-optic filter is studied with regard to its application for the electronic tuning of dye lasers. A Brewster angle CaMoO4 filter was constructed, evaluated, and used to tune a flashlamp pumped dye laser. A total electronic tuning range of 6800 to 4735 was achieved. The electronically tuned dye laser was used to construct the first electronically tuned optical parametric oscillations. At fixed temperature, the oscillator was tunable from 0.9 micron to 1.15 microns and from 1.3 microns to 1.7 microns. Both the electronically tuned dye laser and optical parametric oscillator performed as well or better than comparable mechanically or thermally tuned devices. A brief portion of this report gives results of a theoretical study of an electronically tunable CaMoO4 filter for use in the near infrared portion of the spectrum. (Author).
