Book Tumor Necrosis Factor

Download or read book Tumor Necrosis Factor written by Toma P. Rossard and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tumour Necrosis Factor (TNF) is a member of a superfamily of proteins, each with 157 amino acids, which induce necrosis (death) of tumour cells and possess a wide range of proinflammatory actions. Tumour necrosis factor is a multifunctional cytokine with effects on lipid metabolism, coagulation, insulin resistance, and the function of endothelial cells lining blood vessels. Blocking the action of TNF has been shown to be beneficial in reducing the inflammation in inflammatory diseases such as Crohn's disease and rheumatoid arthritis. Inappropriate production of TNF or sustained activation of TNF signalling has been implicated in the pathogenesis of a wide spectrum of human diseases that include cancer, osteoporosis, sepsis, diabetes, and auto-immune diseases such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease. Extensive research within the last two decades has shown that TNF can be a potential therapeutic agent in various diseases. This new important book gathers the latest research from around the globe in this field.

Book Periodic and Non Periodic Fevers

Download or read book Periodic and Non Periodic Fevers written by Rolando Cimaz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-29 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, written by very well-known opinion leaders in the field, covers all aspects of periodic and non –periodic fevers, and related disorders. The expression refers to several different auto-inflammatory diseases, showing similar symptoms–the primary symptom being a recurrent fever for an infectious cause cannot be found. The opening chapters give some historical hints, explain the genetic basis of the disease and provide insights into the pathogenesis derived from recent experimental studies and guides the reader through classification and nomenclature. A large part of the book is then devoted to a detailed description of the specific related diseases and their clinical presentations, the disease course, and potential complications in both pediatric and adult patients. The advice regarding treatment is based on the best currently available evidence in this constantly evolving area. The book is part of Springer’s series Rare Diseases of the Immune System, which presents recently acquired knowledge on pathogenesis, diagnosis, and therapy with the aim of promoting a more holistic approach to these conditions. Autoinflammatory diseases are hereditary disorders that are caused by single-gene defects in innate immune regulatory pathways and are characterized by a clinical and biological inflammatory syndrome in which there is limited, if any, evidence of autoimmunity. Periodic and Non-Periodic Fevers will be an invaluable source of up-to-date information for all practitioners involved in the care of patients with these disease.

Book Tumour Necrosis Factor and Related Cytotoxins

Download or read book Tumour Necrosis Factor and Related Cytotoxins written by Gregory R. Bock and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-30 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The number of factors implicated in the regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation is already considerable and more are continually being identified. This book concentrates on tumor necrosis factor (cachectin) and lymphotoxin, but includes observations of their interactions with other cytokines, especially the interferons and interleukins. TNF can be either cytostatic or cytotoxic to cultured cell lines, and a variety of mechanisms are proposed, ranging from DNA fragmentation to activation of phospholiopases. TNF is also reported to stimulate the growth of normal fibroblasts in vivo. The in vivo actions of TNF described here include haemorrhagic necrosis of tumors, cachexia, effects on the vasculature, and antiparasitic and antiviral activities. Also presented is some interesting data from the first stages of clinical trials of TNF as an anticancer agent.

Book Olives and Olive Oil in Health and Disease Prevention

Download or read book Olives and Olive Oil in Health and Disease Prevention written by Victor R Preedy and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2010-03-23 with total page 1520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Long used in sacred ceremonies and associated with good health, the nutritional and health promoting benefits of olives and olive oils have been proven by an ever-increasing body of science. From cardiovascular benefits to anti-microbial, anti-cancer, antioxidant activity and effects on macrophages and aptoptosis to cellular and pathophysiollogical process, olives and olive oils are proving important in many healthful ways. For example, reactive components in olive oils or olive oil by-products have now been isolated and identified. These include tyrosol, hydroxytyrosol, 3,4-dihydroxyphenyl acetic acid elenolic acid and oleuropein. Oleic acid is the main monosaturated fatty acid of olive oil. These have putative protective effects and modulate the biochemistry of a variety of cell types including those of the vascular system. Some but not all components have been characterised by their putative pharmacological properties. It is possible that usage of these aforementioned products may have beneficial application in other disease. However, in order for this cross-fertilization to take place, a comprehensive understanding of olives and olive oils is required. Finding this knowledge in a single volume provides a key resource for scientists in a variety of food an nutritional roles. Explores olives and olive oil from their general aspects to the detailed level of important micro-and micronutrients Includes coverage of various methodologies for analysis to help scientists and chemists determine the most appropriate option for their own studies, including those of olive-related compounds in other foods Relates, in a single volume resource, information for food and nutritional chemists, pharmaceutical scientists, nutritionists and dieticians Presents information in three key categories: General aspects of olives an olive oils; Nutritional, pharmacological and metabolic properties of olives and olive oil; Specific components of olive oil and their effects on tissue and body systems
