Book Ship Dynamics for Performance Based Design and Risk Averse Operations

Download or read book Ship Dynamics for Performance Based Design and Risk Averse Operations written by Spyros Hirdaris and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-04-07 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than a century and half ago, William Froude and his son Robert [1,2] conducted the first scientifically designed towing tank experiments using scaled ship models traveling in calm water or waves. Since then, advances in mathematics and technology have led to the development of various methods for the assessment of the dynamic behavior of ships. Yet, as we enter the 2nd decade of the 21st century the advent of goal-based regulations and the emergence of safe and sustainable shipping standards still confront our ability to understand the fundamentals and assure absolute ship safety in design and operations. To instigate renewed interest in the well-rehearsed subject of ship dynamics this Special Issue presents a collection of 12 high-quality research contributions with a focus on the prediction and analysis of the dynamic behavior of ships in a stochastic environment. The papers presented are co-authored by leading subject matter experts from Europe, the Far East, and the USA. These papers will be of interest to academics, practitioners, and regulators involved in the progression of ship science, technical services, and safety standards.

Uversky and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Protein research is a frontier field in science. Proteins are widely distributed in plants and animals and are the principal constituents of the protoplasm of all cells, and consist essentially of combinations of a-amino acids in peptide linkages. Twenty different amino acids are commonly found in proteins, and serve as enzymes, structural elements, hormones, immunoglobulins, etc., and are involved throughout the body, and in photosynthesis. This book gathers new leading-edge research from throughout the world in this exciting and exploding field of research.

Book Practical Design of Ships and Other Floating Structures

Download or read book Practical Design of Ships and Other Floating Structures written by You-Sheng Wu and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-08-22 with total page 721 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This proceedings contains the papers presented at The 8th International Symposium on Practical Design of Ships and Other Floating Structures held in China in September 2001 - the first PRADS of the 21st Century. The overall aim of PRADS symposia is to advance the design of ships and other floating structures as a professional discipline and science by exchanging knowledge and promoting discussion of relevant topics in the fields of naval architecture and marine and offshore engineering. In line with the aim, in welcoming the new era, this Symposium is intended to increase international co-operation and give a momentum for the new development of design and production technology of ships and other floating structures for efficiency, economy, safety, and environmental production. The main themes of this Symposium are Design Synthesis, Production, Hydrodynamics, Structures and Materials of Ships and Floating Systems. Proposals for over 270 papers from 26 countries and regions within the themes were received for PRADS 2001, and about 170 papers were accepted for presentation at the symposium. With the high quality of the proposed papers the Local Organising Committee had a difficult task to make a balanced selection and to control the total number of papers for fitting into the allocated time schedule approved by the Standing Committee of PRADS. Volume I covers design synthesis, production and part of hydrodynamics. Volume II contains the rest of hydrodynamics, and structures and materials.

Book Principles Of Marine Vessel Design Concepts And Design Fundamentals Of Sea Going Vessels

Download or read book Principles Of Marine Vessel Design Concepts And Design Fundamentals Of Sea Going Vessels written by Prasanta Kumar Sahoo and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2021-02-23 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim and scope of this book primarily deals with conceptual design of sea-going marine vessels. While there are a few books on similar topics available to the reader, this book takes a different approach to address the developments of many different types of vessels. Of significant interest would be the estimation of principal parameters of such as vessels and the various coefficients required for design purposes. These parameters are obviously not readily available without carrying out an extensive search and background study. Hopefully, this textbook may be of relevance to designers and career naval architects who need a reference to initiate the design process.

Book Free Fatty Acid Receptors

Download or read book Free Fatty Acid Receptors written by Graeme Milligan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-08 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the important role free fatty acids (FFA) play as potential drug targets. While FFA have long been considered byproducts of cell metabolism, they are now recognized as ligands that regulate cell and tissue function via G-protein-coupled receptors. At least three receptors have been identified for which FFA appear to be the endogenous ligands.

Book Claimed by the Sea Long Island Shipwrecks

Download or read book Claimed by the Sea Long Island Shipwrecks written by Adam M. Grohman and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2008-06-02 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Claimed by the Sea - Long Island Shipwrecks - provides an intimate look at eleven shipwrecks and maritime disasters that occurred in the waters of New York and Long Island. Diver, researcher and author Adam Grohman dives into the archives to explore the histories of various wrecks including the Savannah, Lexington, U.S.S. Ohio, Circassian, Seawanhaka, Oregon, Louis V. Place, General Slocum, U.S.S. San Diego, Andrea Doria, and the Gwendoline Steers. The chapters provide an in depth history of the vessel, the circumstances surrounding their eventual demise, and subsequent exploration by divers and explorers. Claimed by the Sea is heavily illustrated and contains extensive footnotes, source listings and several appendices including a glossary of nautical and diving terminology. Claimed by the Sea is an excellent opportunity for armchair historians and seasoned underwater explorers to dip beneath the waves of history to explore the tragedy and triumph of man versus the sea.

The NAV conference is now held every 3 years, and attracts specialists from all over the world. This book presents the proceedings of NAV 2018, held in Trieste, Italy, in June 2018. The book contains 70 scientific papers, 35 technical papers and 16 reviews, and subjects covered include: comfort on board; conceptual and practical ship design; deep sea mining and marine robotics; protection of the environment; renewable marine energy; design and engineering of offshore vessels; digitalization, unmanned vehicles and cyber security; yacht and pleasure craft design and inland waterway vessels. With its comprehensive coverage of scientific and technical maritime issues, the book will be of interest to all those involved in this important industry.
