Book excerpt: Les études présentées, bibliographiques, expérimentales et théoriques, permettent de préciser le comportement des phases cristallines liquides en fonction des variables température (T), pression (P) pour les composés purs, illumination (Il) pour des composés purs photosensibles et composition (X) pour les mélanges binaires. Les études menées ont conduit à des diagrammes de phase P-T et T-X dont la topologie est identique au diagramme théorique de Renn et Lubensky. La pression et la longueur de la chaîne aliphatique (n) ont des effets antagonistes. L'analyse d'autres composés ont permis d'éclaircir ce dernier point en précisant la relation qualitative entre P et n. Les études effectuées sur des composés photosensibles ont fourni un nouveau type de diagramme de phase Il-T. Le comportement dynamique des transitions est décrit à partir d'une approche statistique. Une modélisation des diagrammes P-T permet d'obtenir les sauts de volume, d'entropie et d'enthalpie de transition le long de la courbe d'équilibre. Ce modèle peut aussi ètre préconisé pour des composés inorganiques.
