La plongée possède des similitudes dans ses modalités de pratique avec les techniques de méditation. L'objectif de cette étude est d'évaluer les bénéfices de la pratique de la plongée sur le fonctionnement de pleine conscience comparativement à une autre pratique sportive. Méthodes : Un groupe de plongeur loisir (n=37) est comparé à un groupe contrôle multisport (n=30) sur des critères de stress perçu, des scores d'humeur et de mindfulness avant et à l'issue de stages UCPA d'une semaine par des auto-questionnaires. Ses critères sont également évalués un mois après le stage dans le groupe plongée pour étudier la rémanence des effets. Résultats : Seuls les plongeurs loisirs ont un score de stress perçu qui s'améliore significativement à l'issue du stage. Ce bénéfice se maintient à un mois. Les modifications du fonctionnement mindfulness sont différentes entre les deux groupes : la pratique de la plongée améliore l'acceptation et la perception corporelle. Une amélioration de l'humeur se retrouve dans les deux groupes. Conclusion : La pratique du sport loisir améliore l'humeur des sujets rendant compte des bénéfices thymiques d'une activité physique réalisée en situation de vacances. Les bénéfices sur la santé de la pratique de la plongée loisir apparaissent plus importants que la pratique d'autres sports dans le cadre d'une réduction du stress et l'amélioration du bien-être.
