Book excerpt: Les anti-inflammatoires non stéroïdiens sont aujourd'hui en France et dans le monde des médicaments de référence dans la gestion des douleurs dentaires. Mais malgré leur efficacité antalgique, ces traitements peuvent favoriser l'apparition de complications évitables telles que des problèmes infectieux, des gastralgies ou des atteintes cutanées. Les multiples usages de ce type de médicaments, et leur facilité d'accès ont ancré leur utilisation dans la culture populaire. Il en a découlé une forte automédication, qui souvent ne respecte pas les limites des recommandations des autorités de santé. Cette thèse étudie dans un premier temps l'usage des AINS en France et dans le monde, ainsi que son évolution depuis le début de la pandémie mondiale de Covid-19. Au travers d'une revue de littérature sont illustrées les différentes relations biologiques théoriques existant entre les AINS et les différentes pathologies buccales à l'origine de douleurs dentaires. L'analyse des résultats de plusieurs enquêtes et rapports des autorités de santé sur leurs effets secondaires permet de mettre en évidence une relation statistique fréquente. Les résultats mettent en lumière l'incidence de la prise d'AINS sur une possible aggravation plus ou moins modérée des symptômes et de l'état de santé des patients, dans les cas d'infections d'origine dentaire. Par ailleurs, il apparaît selon certaines études que les AINS provoqueraient une diminution et un ralentissement de l'efficacité des traitements antibiotiques associés. Néanmoins, toutes les études récentes convergent pour affirmer que la prise d'AINS ne possède aucun effet aggravant des infections au Covid-19, bien qu'elle ne soit apparemment d'aucune utilité dans le cadre de son traitement.
