Book excerpt: L'oxydation sélective du propane en acroléine, bien plus difficile que sa déshydrogénation, présente des intérêts scientifique et économique évidents. L'approche du problème d'activation des hydrocarbures saturés consiste en une étude du comportement des catalyseurs d'oxydation sélective du propène, les molybdates de bismuth, dans l'oxydation du propane. La liaison C-H de l'alcane est bien moins réactive que celle de l'alcène correspondant. La basicité de l'oxygène lié au bismuth, qui serait responsable de l'activation de cette liaison C-H, a été renforcée en substituant le bismuth par des cations acides plus durs au sens de PEARSON, à savoir le lanthane et le cérium. Une mesure des propriétés catalytiques de ces phases en régime transitoire (réacteur pulsé) est mise en œuvre. Cette technique permet de mieux différencier la réactivité et la sélectivité des différents oxygènes du solide. Ces catalyseurs sont exposés à des mélanges constitués de propane ou de propylène purs en présence d'oxygène. Des traitements réducteurs en présence du mélange réactionnel sont également effectués. Une étude comparative des résultats amène aux conclusions suivantes : 1) La formation d'acroléine à partir du propane est favorisée par des catalyseurs de type scheelite contenant du bismuth. 2) L'activation de l'alcane est améliorée sur un oxygène base dur lié à un cation acide dur : La, Ce. 3) La présence de vanadium en substitution du molybdène dans la structure entraine une augmentation de la conversion par une mobilité accrue de l'oxygène.

Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac· tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 20 (thesis year 1975) a total of 10,374 theses titles from 28 Canadian and 239 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. The organization of Volume 20 is identical to that of past years.
