Book Tuberculosis of the Bones and Joints

Download or read book Tuberculosis of the Bones and Joints written by Michel Martini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bone and joint tuberculosis is common in developing countries, and surgeons in these countries are often faced with the dual problem of diagnosing and treating this disease. However, bone and joint tuberculosis has not yet completely disappeared from industrialized countries, either. Therefore, this book is also intended for orthopedic surgeons in industrialized countries, who, faced with the rare but characteristic problems posed by bone and joint tuberculosis, are searching for reliable solutions. The last comprehensive textbook on this subject appeared more than 20 years ago, and that was a third edition of a pre-war work. Advances in chemotherapy had made this edition out-of-date even before it was published. The need for a definite up-to-date textbook has therefore been acute. The present book has been written to fill that need, and is based not only upon 20 years' experience with 700 cases, but also upon the results of clinical, bacteriologic, pathologic, and therapeutic research.

Book What Radiology Residents Need to Know

Download or read book What Radiology Residents Need to Know written by Ronald L. Eisenberg and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an introduction to musculoskeletal radiology, specifically designed for the needs of first-year residents. On the first rotation in musculoskeletal imaging, radiology residents are asked to learn significant amounts of information at a fast and unrelenting pace. However, most current books are densely written and contain far more material than residents need to know. Moreover, the number, variety and quality of images is often limited. What Radiology Residents Need to Know: Musculoskeletal Radiology answers these needs by presenting the important information in bullet fashion, divided into convenient sub-units, such as "clinical information," "imaging findings," and "management." In most cases, an individual pathological condition can be presented in one page or less. In addition, it contains tips on approaching and interpreting radiographs, MRI and CT based on decades of practical experience and teaching residents at the work station. With liberal use of illustrations in the text and an online bank of many more high-quality images, this book gives readers a comprehensive library of musculoskeletal imaging scans and serves as an ideal guide for radiology residents.

Book Guidance for National Tuberculosis Programmes on the Management of Tuberculosis in Children

Download or read book Guidance for National Tuberculosis Programmes on the Management of Tuberculosis in Children written by World Health Organization and published by . This book was released on 2015-02-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is estimated that one third of the world's population is infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (the bacterium that causes tuberculosis (TB)), and that each year, about 9 million people develop TB, of whom about 2 million die. Of the 9 million annual TB cases, about 1 million (11%) occur in children (under 15 years of age). Of these childhood cases, 75% occur annually in 22 high-burden countries that together account for 80% of the world's estimated incident cases. In countries worldwide, the reported percentage of all TB cases occurring in children varies from 3% to more than 25%. The Stop TB Strategy, which builds on the DOTS strategy developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Union Against TB and Lung Disease, has a critical role in reducing the worldwide burden of disease and thus in protecting children from infection and disease. The management of children with TB should be in line with the Stop TB Strategy, taking into consideration the particular epidemiology and clinical presentation of TB in children. These consensus guidelines were produced to help the National Tuberculosis Programmes on the management of tuberculosis in children.
