Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If Darwin were to examine the evidence today using modern science, would his conclusions be the same? Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species, published over 150 years ago, is considered one of history’s most influential books and continues to serve as the foundation of thought for evolutionary biology. Since Darwin’s time, however, new fields of science have immerged that simply give us better answers to the question of origins. With a Ph.D. in cell and developmental biology from Harvard University, Dr. Nathaniel Jeanson is uniquely qualified to investigate what genetics reveal about origins. The Origins Puzzle Comes Together If the science surrounding origins were a puzzle, Darwin would have had fewer than 15% of the pieces to work with when he developed his theory of evolution. We now have a much greater percentage of the pieces because of modern scientific research. As Dr. Jeanson puts the new pieces together, a whole new picture emerges, giving us a testable, predictive model to explain the origin of species. A New Scientific Revolution Begins Darwin’s theory of evolution may be one of science’s “sacred cows,” but genetics research is proving it wrong. Changing an entrenched narrative, even if it’s wrong, is no easy task. Replacing Darwin asks you to consider the possibility that, based on genetics research, our origins are more easily understood in the context of . . . In the beginning . . . God, with the timeline found in the biblical narrative of Genesis. There is a better answer to the origins debate than what we have been led to believe. Let the revolution begin! About the Author Dr. Nathaniel Jeanson is a scientist and a scholar, trained in one of the most prestigious universities in the world. He earned his B.S. in Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and his PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology from Harvard University. As an undergraduate, he researched the molecular control of photosynthesis, and his graduate work involved investigating the molecular and physiological control of adult blood stem cells. His findings have been presented at regional and national conferences and have been published in peer-reviewed journals, such as Blood, Nature, and Cell. Since 2009, he has been actively researching the origin of species, both at the Institute for Creation Research and at Answers in Genesis.

Book From Extraterrestrials to Animal Minds

Download or read book From Extraterrestrials to Animal Minds written by Simon Conway Morris and published by Templeton Foundation Press. This book was released on 2022-03-28 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this learned romp of science writing, Cambridge professor Simon Conway Morris cheerfully challenges six assumptions—what he calls ‘myths’—that too often pass as unquestioned truths amongst the evolutionary orthodox. His convivial tour begins with the idea that evolution is boundless in the kinds of biological systems it can produce. Not true, he says. The process is highly circumscribed and delimited. Nor is it random. This popular notion holds that evolution proceeds blindly, with no endgame. But Conway Morris suggests otherwise, pointing to evidence that the processes of evolution are “seeded with inevitabilities.” If that is so, then what about mass extinctions? Don’t they steer the development of life in radically new directions? Rather the reverse, claims Conway Morris. Such cataclysms accelerate evolutionary developments that were going to happen anyway. And what about that other evolutionary canard: the “missing link”? There is plenty to choose from in the fossil record, but persistently overlooked is that in any group, there is not one but a phalanx of “missing links.” Once again, we under-score the near-inevitability of evolutionary outcomes. Turning from fossils to minds, Conway Morris critically examines the popular tenet that the intelligence of humans and animals are the same thing, a difference of degree, not kind. A closer scrutiny of our minds shows that, in reality, an unbridgeable gulf separates us from even the chimpanzees, so begging questions of consciousness and Mind. Finally, Conway Morris tackles the question of extraterrestrials. Undoubtedly, the size and scale of the universe suggest that alien life must exist somewhere beyond Earth and our tiny siloed solar system? After all, evolutionary convergence more than hints that human-like forms are universal. But Dr. Conway Morris has serious doubts. The famous Fermi Paradox (“Where are they?”) appears to hold: Alone in the cosmos—and unique, but not quite in the way one might expect.

Book Private Truths Public Lies

Download or read book Private Truths Public Lies written by Timur Kuran and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 1998-06-16 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preference falsification, according to the economist Timur Kuran, is the act of misrepresenting one's wants under perceived social pressures. It happens frequently in everyday life, such as when we tell the host of a dinner party that we are enjoying the food when we actually find it bland. In Private Truths, Public Lies Kuran argues convincingly that the phenomenon not only is ubiquitous but has huge social and political consequences. Drawing on diverse intellectual traditions, including those rooted in economics, psychology, sociology, and political science, Kuran provides a unified theory of how preference falsification shapes collective decisions, orients structural change, sustains social stability, distorts human knowledge, and conceals political possibilities. A common effect of preference falsification is the preservation of widely disliked structures. Another is the conferment of an aura of stability on structures vulnerable to sudden collapse. When the support of a policy, tradition, or regime is largely contrived, a minor event may activate a bandwagon that generates massive yet unanticipated change. In distorting public opinion, preference falsification also corrupts public discourse and, hence, human knowledge. So structures held in place by preference falsification may, if the condition lasts long enough, achieve increasingly genuine acceptance. The book demonstrates how human knowledge and social structures co-evolve in complex and imperfectly predictable ways, without any guarantee of social efficiency. Private Truths, Public Lies uses its theoretical argument to illuminate an array of puzzling social phenomena. They include the unexpected fall of communism, the paucity, until recently, of open opposition to affirmative action in the United States, and the durability of the beliefs that have sustained India's caste system.

Book Freaky Truths About God Evolution

Download or read book Freaky Truths About God Evolution written by Harold Stewart and published by Indie: Harold Stewart. This book was released on 2014-09-12 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theologians, philosophers and scientists all have differing views of the world but what is the real abiding reality? Most are afraid to “cross the streams” so to speak of these distinct disciplines but suppose, we could gather together a group of these adherents to discuss the questions that people consider to taboo to talk about in public like the relationship of faith, fact or fantasy. Where would that conversation, its tangents or derivatives lead? This book attempts to answer those questions of the mind that every rational person has at some point in their life. To do that we must engage in discussions about reality, absurdity, perception, Truth, consciousness as well as Godel's preverbal incompleteness. While discussing the origin of the cosmos the topic will migrate from Transformers and UFO's to how multidimensionality could be related to miracles. The theme of the book examines the "freaky truths" of the relationship of these divergent disciplines and beliefs. As such, the main characters will be the Sovereign of the Universe and His history verses that of the scientific and philosophical communities. In answering the Problem of Evil (alone worth the cost) we invariably meet the Hostis humani generis = the enemy of humanity: Satan. Hopefully, a rocking good time will be had by everyone who ventures to buy the book. P.S. Don’t be surprised if you find a few spooky parts as well!

Book Race Monogamy and Other Lies They Told You

Download or read book Race Monogamy and Other Lies They Told You written by Agustín Fuentes and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2015-05 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are three major myths of human nature: humans are divided into biological races; humans are naturally aggressive; and men and women are truly different in behavior, desires, and wiring. In an engaging and wide-ranging narrative, Agustín Fuentes counters these pervasive and pernicious myths about human behavior. Tackling misconceptions about what race, aggression, and sex really mean for humans, Fuentes incorporates an accessible understanding of culture, genetics, and evolution, requiring us to dispose of notions of “nature or nurture.” Presenting scientific evidence from diverse fields—including anthropology, biology, and psychology—Fuentes devises a myth-busting toolkit to dismantle persistent fallacies about the validity of biological races, the innateness of aggression and violence, and the nature of monogamy and differences between the sexes. A final chapter plus an appendix provide a set of take-home points on how readers can myth-bust on their own. Accessible, compelling, and original, this book is a rich and nuanced account of how nature, culture, experience, and choice interact to influence human behavior.

Book The Inner Evolution of Man

Download or read book The Inner Evolution of Man written by John Brokaar and published by Digital on Demand. This book was released on 2022-05-04 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TO FIND ONESELF IN THE DUALITY OF CONTRADICTIONS, ONE MUST FIRST LEARN TO KNOW ONESELF. THIS HOWEVER IS NOT A NATURAL PROCESS As contemporary human beings, we exist in a one- and two-dimensional world, of fearful desire for food, wealth, sex, recognition, and immortality. Unaware of its illusory state, where perception manifests our reality, we are equally unaware of our own hybrid state: As beings of physical and metaphysical features for which, the attainment of the Higher Dimensions is our very birthright. This ‘attainment’ does not come naturally though; it requires our awareness of the conceptual world, as well as the acceptance of our conditioned mechanicalness within it. These observations and contemplations aim to offer such awareness, and to enhance the Seeker of Truth with the means to discover, understand and accept his or her undivided Self. This book combines philosophy, including gnostic thought, religion, as well as the observed psychology and sociology of contemporary ways, within the arenas of politics, geopolitics and corporatism, through the lens of spirituality and magic. It is this that defines the supernatural wonders into which the Seeker of Truth must cross his or her own threshold. As with all things of substance, the answer to these mysteries, will not be found in selected subjects or even the sum of their parts – as in such, one only finds Chaos. It is only in knowing the Whole of the Self that complete acceptance of All can emerge.

Book The Evolution of Divine Life in Me

Download or read book The Evolution of Divine Life in Me written by Devatma and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-12-21 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The journey from human species to sublime species (the perfect embodiment of Truth, Goodness and Beauty) is a story of the gradual explicitness of the spiritual principle. It is the best manifested in the sublime powers, sublime life and sublime beauty. Psychic forces of complete love of Truth and Goodness; Complete hatred for untruth and evil, altered the altruistic man into Devatma. He is heir to a truth of the highest sublimity that touched the noblest and highest throne of glory. It is his love of truth that led Devatma to embrace scientific methods and test the imagination-sponsored beliefs. This rejects the supernatural beliefs and embraces the scientific method. The philosophy of Devatma is extraordinary, simple and grand but at same time it is naturalistic, dialectical, scientific, evolutionary, developmental, optimistic, responsible and altruistic. On being illumined by the unique light of love of truth, He was able to discover new and rare truths about soul-life, its evolution and dissolution, which no one had discovered before on this earth and naturally there was no teaching of these truths. His teaching about what is good and bad in relation to every kingdom of the universe is absolutely unique. For bringing higher changes in this most dark, most ignorant, most degraded and most harmful state of mankind and for bringing into being absolutely new and blessed age; to produce men of Trust and Character through whom human relations will be in all respects sweet and blessed., there was the necessity of the emergence of Devatma. In His Philosophy, readers can find the best answer of the fundamental questions: Why are we on this planet? What is the origin and organism of life? Where did we come from? Why do we exist? Do we have any intrinsic value? What is the highest meaning and purpose of life? What is sublime life or complete love of Truth? What are the fundamental scientific truths about Human soul, here and hereafter? Finally either sublime species could survive or not?

Book The Untruth of Reality

Download or read book The Untruth of Reality written by Jure Simoniti and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2016-10-12 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The common feature of many present-day “new realisms” is a general diagnosis according to which, with Kant, Western philosophy lost any contact with the outside world. In The Untruth of Reality, Jure Simoniti, in contrast, points out the necessary realist side of modern philosophy, arguing that the possibility of realism has always been there. The epistemological self-inauguration of the subject goes hand in hand with his anthropological dethronement, the god-like centrality of the “ego” is constantly counterbalanced with his creatural marginality, the activity of the constitutive subject is juxtaposed with the growing indifference of the world, and the linguistic appropriation of the world simultaneously performs operations of the de-symbolization of reality. However, with these precarious equilibria, the conditions of possibility of realism have become more complex and intricate. It is therefore the goal of this book to demonstrate how the paradigms of consciousness and language are not necessarily incompatible with realism, but rather open new and broader possibilities for the world behind and beyond consciousness and language to disclose itself. This book will be of interest to graduate students and scholars in the fields of German idealism, continental philosophy, philosophy of language, and philosophy of science.

Book The Truth About Lies

    Book Details:
  • Author : Aja Raden
  • Publisher : St. Martin's Press
  • Release : 2021-05-11
  • ISBN : 1250272033
  • Pages : 206 pages

Download or read book The Truth About Lies written by Aja Raden and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2021-05-11 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do you believe what you believe? You’ve been lied to. Probably a lot. We’re always stunned when we realize we’ve been deceived. We can’t believe we were fooled: What was I thinking? How could I have believed that? We always wonder why we believed the lie. But have you ever wondered why you believe the truth? People tell you the truth all the time, and you believe them; and if, at some later point, you’re confronted with evidence that the story you believed was indeed true, you never wonder why you believed it in the first place. In this incisive and insightful taxonomy of lies and liars, New York Times bestselling author Aja Raden makes the surprising claim that maybe you should. Buttressed by history, psychology, and science, The Truth About Lies is both an eye-opening primer on con-artistry—from pyramid schemes to shell games, forgery to hoaxes—and also a telescopic view of society through the mechanics of belief: why we lie, why we believe, and how, if at all, the acts differ. Through wild tales of cons and marks, Raden examines not only how lies actually work, but also why they work, from the evolutionary function of deception to what it reveals about our own. In her previous book, Stoned, Raden asked, “What makes a thing valuable?” In The Truth About Lies, she asks “What makes a thing real?” With cutting wit and a deft touch, Raden untangles the relationship of truth to lie, belief to faith, and deception to propaganda. The Truth About Lies will change everything you thought you knew about what you know, and whether you ever really know it.
