Download or read book TIP 35 Enhancing Motivation for Change in Substance Use Disorder Treatment Updated 2019 written by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-11-19 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Motivation is key to substance use behavior change. Counselors can support clients' movement toward positive changes in their substance use by identifying and enhancing motivation that already exists. Motivational approaches are based on the principles of person-centered counseling. Counselors' use of empathy, not authority and power, is key to enhancing clients' motivation to change. Clients are experts in their own recovery from SUDs. Counselors should engage them in collaborative partnerships. Ambivalence about change is normal. Resistance to change is an expression of ambivalence about change, not a client trait or characteristic. Confrontational approaches increase client resistance and discord in the counseling relationship. Motivational approaches explore ambivalence in a nonjudgmental and compassionate way.
Download or read book Counseling Addicted Families written by Gerald A. Juhnke and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-08-16 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Counseling Addicted Families, Gerald A. Juhnke and William Bryce Hagedorn recognize that even those treatment providers who understand the importance of the familial context of addiction are often stymied by the variety of family treatment theories and their often imperfect fit for cases of addiction. In this book, Juhnke and Hagedorn provide a truly integrated model for assessment and treatment. Based upon the authors’ combined twenty-three years of experience in clinical and treatment supervision, the Integrated Family Addictions Model consists of six progressive treatment tiers which organize the relevant family treatment theories into a graduated and coherent sequence, beginning with the briefest and least costly forms of therapy.

Download or read book Dear Mr Nelson written by Kenneth E. Nelson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-07-09 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kenneth E. Nelson didn’t intend to become a twenty-year volunteer speaker for MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions). It certainly wasn’t in his thoughts to become a sort of Ann Landers for teenagers. Somehow one step led to another, and before long, the personal rewards were so great he couldn’t stop. After delivering a presentation to a high school class, he was surprised to receive a letter from one of the students detailing his troubles with alcohol. This boy’s letter was the first of thousands that arrived after Nelson’s more than 4,700 lectures (and counting). Many of these letters are here in this unique collection of candid, honest and revealing letters from teenagers. In Dear Mr. Nelson, Nelson has compiled a book of written expressions that may never be duplicated again.

Download or read book Be You Tiful written by sunita k. mani and published by Partridge Publishing. This book was released on 2016-10-14 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wouldnt it be awesome if you could have a conversation with someone about anything no matter how tricky the topic and still not be judged? Growth and conversations go hand in hand. Both represent each other. In a classical conversation, our aspirations, our thoughts, our sense of responsibility can all shift because we begin to perceive life differently after meeting different people. This allows us to arrive at new interpretations and choices that truly make greater sense and impact. As we dwell in a technology-driven era, our conversations are endangered because we have abandoned face-to-face conversations in the name of mere connections. If you are wanting, struggling, trying to find a place where you can learn and have conversations (even the hard ones), if you are ready to deepen your awareness, develop emotional flexibility, or simply tease your curiosity, this book is for you. In the book Be.you.tiful, author and counselor Sunita K. Mani offers practical guidelines on how to deal with everyday issuesbig or small, addiction, infatuation, career, body image, parents, friendships, and more. It contains chunks of conversations related to different aspects that define the life of a young adult. Divided into short crisp segments of dialogues pertaining to a concerned topic, Sunita journeys through the minds of youngsters. Sunita has helped many young adults search their souls and find their answers to complex problems and a way out of tricky situations. She presents Be.you.tiful to help young people build their self-confidence, dismantle inner obstacles, and find the courage to chase their passion.
