Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Trucker's Nightmare Continues will pull you into the darkest reaches of a truck driver's mind. Every experience draws you deeper into the twisted lives of those involved in this industry. This is a world where truck drivers, prostitutes, homeless people, and some of the everyday people have to face situations beyond their control. Storms, thieves, plagues, death and life all bring about unexpected and horrific results, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Many of the secrets are kept from the public's eye to keep some semblance of peace and security in this country, as the lives of those involved are drastically changed forever, or are prematurely ended. Every horrific story in this second book of the series continues to bring the reader into the secret lives of the people hidden from the rest of the world, only to be left pondering what had happened in the end. The lives of those living in the nightmare as well as the reader will be forever altered. The question of where the line of sanity and insanity in these stories have a tendency to blend into each other as each of the stories continue to grow, leaving everyone in a state of potential danger. The Trucker' Nightmare Continues will draw you deeper into the lifestyle of the men and women who keep this country running, and the dangers that they have to deal with, or bring into the world, on a day to day basis. As a result, your thinking will be altered. Some will take more caution in dealing with others, while some of you will throw caution out, challenging the trucking world to a challenge of life and death, simply to experience a small piece of the nightmare that exists out there. Either way, after reading this book, your life will be changed.

Former homicide investigator Hunter Rayne follows the white lines northward on the Alaska Highway, but a truck breakdown forces him to take an unscheduled stop in Whitehorse, Yukon, where he had been stationed as a rookie cop. While his Freightliner is awaiting repairs, Hunter and fellow driver, Dan (Sorry) Sorenson, kill time with a side trip to bush Alaska where a chance meeting with a young Alaskan woman awakens his interest in a baffling cold case. A reclusive trapper and his young girlfriend disappeared from a bloody cabin 25 years before, leaving their sled dogs chained outside. Reawakened memories of his past coupled with a recent murder find Hunter back in investigative mode with the blessings of Whitehorse RCMP boss Bartholomew Sam, son of a shaman and Hunter's old friend. He finds himself searching the banks of the mighty Yukon River for a tough old bush woman who may hold the key to more than one bloody death. It's a vivid reminder that the breathtaking beauty of the northern wilderness camouflages its brutal indifference to human life. This is the fourth novel in the Highway Mysteries series of character-driven traditional mysteries in a uniquely North American setting.

Life itself started again with my 10th marriage on December 5, 1981. I knew in 1976 that my life in prison was over. Id had all I could handle with six prison sentences. However, at the time, I wasnt necessarily sure I was done with crime. So, here is my story and I hope you enjoy it and learn from it.

Her sarcasm manages to amuse me whether she’s being tortured in the academy for demons in Hell or just arguing with the Fallen One in Heaven. Great world building, and the best and most sarcastic characters.” ★★★★★ “Claire Chilton not only conjures a YA fantasy world brimming with magical creatures like vampires, werewolves, zombies, angels, demons, succubus, dragons, elves, fae, fairies, ghosts, gods, shapeshifters and a whole range of mythical monsters, she also creates a few of her own. Were-squirrels, anyone?” ★★★★★ “If you’re looking for a dark teen comedy that is the goth lovechild of Deadpool and Buffy, then look no further. The novels in this series are fast-paced, dogma-driven, satires that focus on an outcast teenage girl who uses witty banter and a spellbook to become a witch and travel to Hell and back. With light humour and a lot of lols along the way, this Sabrina-like heroine explores the horror of death and darkness in even the most heavenly places.” ★★★★★ “An entertaining, humorous and romantic paranormal novel that kept me up past midnight because I couldn’t put it down.” ★★★★★ “When the demon lord you’re dating takes you home to meet his undead family, and then you’re forced to attend school in Hell, you know the romance is going to get a bit weird. This was a fun unearthly romp that will make you laugh out loud. The first story is a bit short, but it’s also free. The stories aren’t overly romantic, so they’re great for older teenage boys and girls.” ★★★★★ “Deliciously thrilling and wickedly silly from the grave and back! Life on the road with Daddy is as good as gets for Hazmat. Together, they've been taking jobs and crisscrossing the US for years. Now Daddy's talking about putting down roots—somewhere Hazmat can go to a real school and make friends. Somewhere Daddy doesn't have to mail-order textbooks about "nature's promise to all women." Somewhere Mom's ashes can rest on a mantel and not on a dashboard. While everything just keeps changing, sometimes in ways she can't control, Hazmat isn't ready to give up the freedom of long-distance hauling. Sure the road is filled with surprises, from plane crashes and robo trucks to runaway hitchhikers and abandoned babies, but that all makes for great stories! So Hazmat hatches a plan to make sure Daddy's dream never becomes a reality. Because there's only one place Hazmat belongs: in the navigator's seat, right next to Daddy, with the whole country flying by and each day different from the last. Award-winning author Louise Hawes writes with an easy, conversational voice and an "I'll never grow up" spirit that cheerfully thumbs its nose at traditional coming-of-age narratives. Book excerpt: An intriguing and suspenseful debut psychological thriller for fans of Girl, Interrupted and Unsane. Dominique Stein is beautiful, young, and Jewish. Her sanity is overly dependent on external cues, chameleon-like. She awakens every morning at 5:59:59. She weighs in at exactly 111, her snug palindrome. These are the routines that keep her safe. Then, it all explodes. She desperately searches to find her way back inside that cozy bubble of sanity she had constructed. Lost, her bearings off and wobbly, Dominique can’t trust her instincts. Crimes are committed; not everyone survives. Found not guilty by virtue of temporary insanity, she is sent to a psychiatric prison for women. There she is caught between the kind, serene Freudian analyst, Dr. Haddad, and the head of the institute, the manic, megalomaniacal Dr. du Chevre, who offers her the Faustian contract: be the subject for his secretive, odd research, and he will get her out of prison earlier. Dominique has to navigate her way out of this institutional maze and the random, explosive violence of the prison by deciding which doctor she can trust—or whether they are both manipulating her for their own strange motives . . . In this psychological thriller, Gary Dvorkin crafts a compelling story of love, betrayal, and reality-shifting anxiety. Dominique hears many voices in her life. But which one can she trust? Which voice will ransom her sanity?

Download or read book Sweatshops on Wheels written by Michael H. Belzer and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2000 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Long hours, low wages, and unsafe workplaces characterized sweatshops a hundred years ago. These same conditions plague American trucking today. Sweatshops on Wheels: Winners and Losers in Trucking Deregulation exposes the dark side of government deregulation in America's interstate trucking industry. In the years since deregulation in 1980, median earnings have dropped 30% and most long-haul truckers earn less than half of pre-regulation wages. Work weeks average more than sixty hours. Today, America's long-haul truckers are working harder and earning less than at any time during the last four decades. Written by a former long-haul trucker who now teaches industrial relations at Wayne State University, Sweatshops on Wheels raises crucial questions about the legacy of trucking deregulation in America and casts provocative new light on the issue of government deregulation in general.
