Book Trust Me I m a Surveyor

Download or read book Trust Me I m a Surveyor written by Joanna Bates and published by Austin Macauley. This book was released on 2017-01-31 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chris and her husband, Chris (AKA Chris Twice), started their surveyor's business in London, 'Site surveying, drawing plans, rescuing hostages and solving crimes'. Chris tells of the establishment and growth of the business, including the perils of working for the cartoonishly sinister Mr Gold, the suspected murder of another surveyor and the joys and disasters of running their own company. Their attempt to employ a new surveyor: ""I can't actually draw houses but I'm willing to learn ..."" is a joy. Their children are absorbed into the business, working and learning with their parents. With an assortment of friends - the comical Denny, dark horse David and ambitious Mrs Chin, Chris offers snapshots of a fun and chaotic lifestyle, attending a wedding in the wrong country, dealing with the sometimes ludicrous rules of local authorities and insurers and the expectations of clients, some of whom paid their fees in anything but cash.

Book Too Far From Home

Download or read book Too Far From Home written by Naomi Shmuel and published by Millbrook Press. This book was released on 2020-03-03 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "There's an Ethiopian; there's an Ethiopian!" I heard them shouting. I looked behind me, but I couldn't see any Ethiopian. Children began crowding round me, and I still didn't realize that they meant me, I was the Ethiopian. Meskerem was born in a small town in the Golan Heights of Israel, to an Ethiopian mother and an American father. Soon after Operation Solomon, when several thousand Ethiopian immigrants were brought to Israel, Meskerem's parents decided to move to the center of the country, to the town of Herzelia. Meskerem comes face-to-face with the ignorance and prejudices of her new classmates, many of whom are meeting someone dark-skinned for the first time. With the help of her Ethiopian grandmother, who remained in Kazerin, Meskerem comes to terms with who she is and finds strength in belonging to three different cultures.

Download or read book Surveying Sisters written by Clara Greed and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-08-24 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past few years there had been a dramatic increase in the number of women entering the surveying profession. Fewer than five per cent of practising surveyors were women, but women comprised twenty per cent of students. Originally published in 1991, Surveying Sisters explores the question of whether ‘more’ would mean ‘better’, either for women surveyors themselves, or for women as consumers of the built environment. Clara Greed investigates the experiences of individual women surveyors, as well as studying the nature of the male majority. Taking a broadly feminist perspective and using an ethnographic approach, she develops a strong theoretical basis, incorporating the gender, class, and spatial dimensions of the situation, centring round the concept that surveying has its own distinct professional subculture. She traces the historical roots of the profession, and its attitudes to women, and makes constructive suggestions for improving the position of women surveying today. This was a highly topical study, at a time when the surveying profession was eager to attract more women in order to allay the effects of declining numbers of school leavers and potential ‘manpower’ shortages. It will be of interest to people concerned about issues of gender in disciplines such as sociology, management studies, higher education, urban geography, and women’s studies, and to the women and men who work in the surveying and other built environment professions.
