Book Because He s Jeff Goldblum

Download or read book Because He s Jeff Goldblum written by Travis M. Andrews and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2021-05-04 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An irreverent yet deeply researched biography about the always offbeat, suddenly meme-able, and wildly popular actor When did you first encounter Jeff Goldblum? Maybe as a deranged killer in his 1974 screen debut in Death Wish? Maybe as a cynical journalist in 1983s The Big Chill? Or a brilliant if egotistical scientist-turned-fly in 1986s The Fly? Perhaps as the wise-cracking skeptical mathematician in 1993s Jurassic Park? Or maybe you’re not a film buff but noticed his face as part of one of the Internet’s earliest memes. Who knows? Whenever it was, you’ve probably noticed that Goldblum has become one of Hollywood’s most enduring actors, someone who only seems to grow more famous, more heralded, more beloved through the decades, even though he’s always followed his own, strange muse. The guy primarily plays jazz music these days, but is more famous than ever. Actor, pianist, husband, father, style icon, meme. Goldblum contains multitudes, but why? What does he mean? The Washington Post’s Travis M. Andrews decided to find out. And so he set out on a journey through Goldblum's career, talking to directors like Lawrence Kasdan and Philip Kaufman, colleagues like Harry Shearer and Billy Crudup, and pop culture experts like Chuck Klosterman and Sean Fennessey, to get to the bottom of this whole Goldblum thing. And then he took what he learned and he wrote this book, which is titled Because He’s Jeff Goldblum and is the best thing written since The Brothers Karamazov and slightly easier to follow. But you should already know that. In this new semi-biography, semi-rumination, and semi-ridiculous look at the career of Goldblum, Andrews takes you behind the scenes of his iconic movies, explores the shifting nature of fame in the twenty-first century, and spends far too much time converting Goldblum’s name into various forms of speech. Want to hear how Goldblum saved a script supervisor from an amorous baboon? Or what he would write on the mirror after taking showers when he was a teenager? How about his feelings on various brands of throat lozenges? (That one could be an entire book unto itself.) Then this is the book for you!

Book excerpt: In the tradition of other great ex-patriot stories like The Sun Also Rises or All the Pretty Horses, Native Moments is a coming-of-age adventure set among the lush landscape of Costa Rica. After the death of his brother, Sanch Murray leaves for a surf trip as a way to cope and sets out on a quixotic search for an alternative to the American Dream. Set in 1999 Costa Rica, Sanch and his friend Jake Higdon wander the dirt roads of Tamarindo and surrounding areas chasing waves as a way to live out the romantic fantasy lifestyle of traveling surfers. Jake Higdon, six years Sanch's senior, takes on the role of the wise leader and Sanch as his young apprentice. Sanch's adventure leads to encounters with people who share world views he had never considered and could potentially shape his own changing perceptions about life. Through sometimes humorous episodes such as trying his hand as a matador at a roadside rodeo or in his not so humorous battle with dysentery, Sanch explores life's beauty and wonder alongside the darker undercurrents of humanity. Along his journey, Sanch befriends a shamanic traveler named Rob, young revolutionaries from Venezuela, numerous expatriates from around the world trying to escape whatever it is that keeps chasing them, and a beautiful local girl named Andrea, who Sanch suspects is a prostitute but can't help falling for.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: RIPPLE Grab this GREAT physical book now at a limited time discounted price! Ripple refers to both the cryptocurrency XRP, as well as its digital payment protocol which is being used by various banks and institutions all over the world. To understand the world of Ripple and what sets it apart from the rest, you will first need to understand the basic workings of the system itself. In reality, Ripple has become more known for its payment solution and technology than for its cryptocurrency. This is because within the Ripple system, money can be transferred in whatever form the users prefer. The system allows transactions in US dollar, Euro, Yen, Pound, Bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin, or XRP. This open source platform makes Ripple easy to integrate into various other existing infrastructure and protocols, which is an advantage for both Ripple and its community of users. The Ripple system operates in a very close system of trust between different parties, and there is also a system of debt or credit lines involved in the process. To simplify the process, the sender will log on to his Ripple gateway (conduit or agent), deposits the money into this Ripple gateway, and sends the instruction for the funds to be released to the receiver. The receiver will receive the funds by logging on to his preferred receiver. In this Ripple payment protocol, the transfers are not limited to money. Cryptocurrencies can be sent as long as the gateways are able to transact in them. Gold and other precious materials may also be transacted. The important thing is to find gateways that are willing and able to perform the transaction. Suppose, for instance, that the sender wants to send $1000 to the receiver, but the sender's own gateway does not have a direct trust relationship with the receiver's gateway. What the Ripple algorithm will attempt to do is to find a chain, or several intermediary gateways which can act as the conduit for the transaction to go through. Ripple's protocol will try to find the shortest and quickest link between gateways in order to process the transaction. Now, what if the Ripple network has attempted to find a chain of trust between two different gateways to process a transfer, but cannot locate a chain? This is where the Ripple cryptocurrency or XRP comes into play. XRP may be used within the Ripple network to convert money or goods being transferred. All currencies and goods will have an XRP price, and the sender can then choose to convert to XRP, send the XRP through the chain, to get to the receiver. The receiver, meanwhile, can opt to convert the XRP back to the original currency from his own gateway. In the Ripple network, users are transacting currencies, commodities, and other units of value seamlessly. Chris Larsen, one of the co-founders of Ripple Labs and who also has extensive experience in digital finance (having founded e-Loan and Prosper), referred to the Ripple protocol as "HTTP for money". Larsen likens Ripple to gold as a standard of currency, because gold requires liquidity, trust, and utility to become a standard. "It's analogous to the Bitcoin networks. Any user can use the protocol just like they would HTTP. You can build on top of it without licensing it from anybody,"...... Here Is What You'll Learn About... Book Oswald the Lucky Rabbit The Search for the Lost Disney Cartoons Revised Special Edition

Download or read book Oswald the Lucky Rabbit The Search for the Lost Disney Cartoons Revised Special Edition written by David A. Bossert and published by Disney Editions. This book was released on 2019-08-27 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was created in 1927 by Walt Disney and his team through twenty-six cartoon shorts. Not without fits and starts, the series and its impish title character were an instant hit with audiences. At the end of that initial run, Walt lost the contract to Oswald, which prompted the creation of Mickey Mouse. Over the years, Oswald became a footnote in the Disney story . . . until 2006, when The Walt Disney Company recovered rights to Walt's twenty-six shorts. Behind-the-scenes, a complex and labor-intensive search developed for the physical film footage of some Oswald cartoons deemed "lost to time." For anyone interested in Disney origins, fascinated by early cinema, or entertained by a feisty little rabbit, this engaging and accessible volume delivers an in-depth look at Walt's first major animated success and the journey to reclaim the lost Disney films. This edition features updated text, newly discovered film images, a foreword by The Walt Disney Company CEO, Bob Iger, and six collectible prints.
