Book excerpt: This book called "Temperance" (BIG Print (A4) Original Text Edition without inclusive language) was a favorite theme of Mrs. Ellen G. White, both in her writings and in public discourse. In many of her articles which appeared in denominational journals through the years, and in manuscripts and letters of counsel addressed to both workers and laity, she urged Seventh-day Adventists to practice temperance and to promote vigorously the temperance cause. In response to earnest requests that this wealth of material and instruction should be made available in a single volume, this handbook has been prepared by authorization of the Ellen G. White publications, to whom Mrs. White committed the custody of her books and manuscripts. These selections have been drawn from the whole range of Mrs. White's writings on this subject, including some now out of print, such as the following: Health, or How to Live (1865); Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene (1890); Special Testimonies (1892- 1912); and Drunkenness and Crime (1907). Both in the outline and in the content of subject matter, the compilers have earnestly sought to reflect the emphasis which the author placed on the various phases of temperance.

Book What Is True Temperance The Temperance of Christ Or the Temperance of Mohammed

Download or read book What Is True Temperance The Temperance of Christ Or the Temperance of Mohammed written by Jean Paul Huter and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-21 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from What Is True Temperance? The Temperance of Christ or the Temperance of Mohammed?: God in the War AS Christ Is the Measure in All Things for all men and especially for Christians, we may now, after having examined his standpoint on the question of temperance, and more particularly with regard to drinking wine, make a direct and summarized comparison of his attitude with that of our prohibitionists. Christ invoked even his supernatural powers (habitually, says Lyman Abbott) to supply wine to the people, and he did not in a Single instance utter a word against the sale of wine. Our prohibitionists would make the selling, buying and giving away of wine and liquor, in any form and even in the smallest quantities, a crime, and they brand all those as sinners and criminals who supply liquor to the public, thus making according to their notions, christ him seif appear AS A deliberate sinner and themselves superior TO him and better than he. Christ himself indulged freely in wine, thus showing by his own example, which is always forcible and to the point, that this indulgence is as natural as harmless, and that it is good to drink in moderation to make the heart glad. Book Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene

Download or read book Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene written by James White and published by Teach Services, Incorporated. This book was released on 2005 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elder James White and his wife, Mrs. E. G. White, enjoyed speaking and writing about how true science and the Scriptures are related to one another. Various experiences motivated them to consider questions about health and ultimately share their knowledge with others. Written in a time when the subject of health was almost wholly ignored, the articles they wrote led thousands of people to change life-long habits. They were also among the first to present the subject of hygiene in consistency with the Bible and Christian beliefs. The principles presented in this book have not only stood the test of time, but have been proven to be even more accurate over the past several years by scientific evidence. Mrs. E. G. White shared her thoughts on Christian temperance, while Elder James White wrote on the subject of Bible hygiene. This collection of their more important writings will both inspire and instruct you in temperance and hygiene from a Biblical point of view.

Book excerpt: It may come as a surprise to many that the subject of diet and temperance in eating and drinking in relation to spirituality is one of the missing links that God designed to be a protection for us from unnecessary pain and suffering. Do not take this for granted. Do not ignore it. Our lives here on earth and our eternal destinies to a large degree hinges on this subject. The goal of this publication is to alert the world and the church to the trap that Satan has set for everyone and to warn all about the dangers of intemperance in eating and drinking as found in the Bible. It does not cover all the Bible texts dealing with intemperance and the indulgence of appetite, but you will find that it does cover major texts dealing with the subject. You will find many interesting and riveting gems of thought that you may have never known before, as I discovered when writing this book. The Word of God is filled with so much treasure that one can never exhaust it, so as you read and study, may you experience the joy that comes from getting to know and practice true temperance. The Bible offers the answers to our most difficult and pressing questions. The Scriptures clear up any doubts we may have as to why we get sick. We are not left to struggle to combat sicknesses and diseases without the aid of the greatest medical Book the world has ever seen. This Book is the Bible. The principles of health contained in it will surely make us healthy and wise unto salvation if we will observe them.

Book The Bible and Temperance Or the True Scriptural Basis of the Temperance Movement

Download or read book The Bible and Temperance Or the True Scriptural Basis of the Temperance Movement written by Thomas Pearson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Bible and Temperance, or the True Scriptural Basis of the Temperance Movement: In Which the Writings of Rev. A. M. Wilson, and Professors Watts, Wallace, and Others, on the Wines of the Bible, Are Examined, and Their Arguments Answered Medical science demonstrates that intoxicating liquors act as poisons on the organs of the human body, that they neither warm nor nourish the body; and therefore medical science gives its testimony also in favour of Temperance. Morality and science are thus found on the side of Temperance; but what does the Bible say? If on the side of morality and science, it must also be on the side of Temperance. As interpreted by many, the Bible appears rather unfavourable to temperance than other wise therefore, it must be misunderstood and its teach ing misrepresented. As the Word of God, the Bible must ever be in accord with science and morality; and if my are found on our side on the temperance question, so must the Bible. It is time, therefore, that the teaching of the Bible on this subject should be vindicated, and its accordance with science and morality established. This is the task we have set before us in the following pages: how we have succeeded we leave it to others to judge. Book Victory and Discernment Through the Fruit of the Spirit

Download or read book Victory and Discernment Through the Fruit of the Spirit written by Bruce Salisbury and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-04-06 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Victory and Discernment Though the Fruit of the Spirit""this reality can be our hope and encouragement for living with a winning strategy in our lives if we repent and accept God's forgiveness in our hearts. As individuals now, in the past, and in the future, we are involved in a spiritual battle of good versus evil. Satan and his cohorts are our enemy. Jesus is our Savior and Provider who loves us unconditionally. As we battle daily against false beliefs and philosophies promoted by false Christs, teachers, and those who are uninformed regarding the truth of God's Word, we can have victory in our lives. We do not need to be deceived or led astray. Understanding the fruit of the Spirit prevents us from being confused or deceived and enables us to defeat our enemies spiritually. Victory is winning a battle, struggle, or contest. It is being successful in defeating an enemy. Discernment is being able to see or recognize. With discernment and victory, we can have good judgement and understanding of God's Word and will for us. The purpose of this book is to help those who read it to distinguish the difference between true believers in Christ and false believers in Christ and to recognize the difference between true and false apostles regarding their teachings. There is clarification of how the fruit of the Spirit operates in a person's life. This clarification is accomplished by the discernment given to us by the Holy Spirit. When you look at the opposite fruit of each of the good fruit (love vs. hate), you will see the truth that "by their fruits you will know them." The knowledge here is geared to those who have accepted Christ and to those who have not accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior.
