The book is a treasure trove of wisdom for Christians trying to discover what true spirituality looks like in everyday life. Book The Philosophies of Religion and Spirituality

Download or read book The Philosophies of Religion and Spirituality written by B. A. Lloyd S. Lefteruk and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-12 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MORAL It is not so much that we don't know, but that we know so much that isn't so that is the cause of our problems. SUMMARY Among the most astounding recent academic discoveries is the true history of the development of man's spirituality, philosophy, and religion, and their relationship to each other. It is becoming more apparent that the Christian, Islamic, Hebrew and all other monotheistic religions of the world have the same origin and have more in common than is generally believed. Man will not achieve world peace until his religions are once again reintegrated. As brothers and sisters with one God as our father, all humanity must learn to live together and assume a sense of greater universal responsibility. Our greatest challenge today is that our new global community demands that every individual must develop a greater sense of spirituality. THEME There is a place for everything and everything has its place. Everything is as it should be. The Universe is evolving according to the will of God. It is our failure to see the good in everything, to realize the perfection in Man, God and the whole Cosmos which is the cause of our unhappiness, the source of our discontent, and at the root of our suffering. The realization of the goodness of all Creation is man's ticket to his life in a Paradise on Earth.

Book Spirituality A Very Short Introduction

Download or read book Spirituality A Very Short Introduction written by Philip Sheldrake and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2012-11-29 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been suggested that 'spirituality' has become a word that 'can define an era'. Why? Because paradoxically, alongside a decline in traditional religious affiliations, the growing interest in spirituality and the use of the word in a variety of contexts is a striking aspect of contemporary western cultures. Indeed, spirituality is sometimes contrasted attractively with religion, although this is problematic and implies that religion is essentially dogma, moralism, institutions, buildings, and hierarchies. The notion of spirituality expresses the fact that many people are driven by goals that concern more than material satisfaction. Broadly, it refers to the deepest values and sense of meaning by which people seek to live. Sometimes these values are conventionally religious. Sometimes they are associated with what is understood as 'the sacred' in a broader sense - that is, of ultimate rather than merely instrumental importance. This Very Short Introduction, written by one of the most eminent scholars and writers on spirituality, explores the historical foundations of the thought and considers how it came to have the significance it is developing today. ABOUT THE SERIES: The Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press contains hundreds of titles in almost every subject area. These pocket-sized books are the perfect way to get ahead in a new subject quickly. Our expert authors combine facts, analysis, perspective, new ideas, and enthusiasm to make interesting and challenging topics highly readable.

  • Author : Robert Bolton
  • Publisher : Sophia Perennis et Universalis

Download or read book Self and Spirit written by Robert Bolton and published by Sophia Perennis et Universalis. This book was released on 2005 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: BLURB for Self and Spirit What is the basis and purpose of esoteric religion, and what is the self? Self and Spirit answers these questions in depth and in a way true to the spirit of traditional wisdom. This book illuminates from a new angle the Non-Dualistic conceptions that have become influential through the work of many modern traditionalists, including Ren Gunon and Frithjof Schuon, whose influence is evident in Dr. Bolton's treatment of religion and tradition. Here, Gnostic ideas usually taken to support pantheistic religion are shown to be able to provide a foundation for belief in a personal God. Religion is not forced into a preconceived system, because no attempt is made to evaluate all religious doctrines by the standard of one doctrine. Instead, certain profound ideas common to many traditions are invoked, these ideas being of a kind that cannot be identified with any one confessional origin. This in turn sheds new light on the dividing-line between the esoteric and the exoteric, and allows these ideas to combine in ways that are natural and free. The key to this new departure is the true nature of the individual self, a subject largely ignored by Non-Dualist thought. Here it is given its full weight, however, and its impact on all other realities is made clear. The relation of the self to its world is also here connected significantly to the cosmic role of religion, illustrating how a conversion from worldly to spiritual priorities can have consequences far beyond the personal concerns of those involved. Throughout, Bolton's thinking is daring, yet true to traditional spirituality.
