Book Transmission line Distributed Amplifiers Utilizing Field effect Transistors

Download or read book Transmission line Distributed Amplifiers Utilizing Field effect Transistors written by John Bradford Hopkins and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this investigation is the determination of operating characteristics of a distributed amplifier utilizing field-effect transistors as active elements and constructed in the form of helical transmission lines. A review of the properties of field-effect transistors is carried out, and the amplifier is analyzed in terms of transmission line equations, taking the input and output lines to be loaded by the FET input and output impedances, respectively. After equations are obtained which characterize such loaded transmission lines, and suitable terminations are described, an overall gain expression is developed, forming the basis of a computer simulation of the amplifier. In addition, general relations concerning design specifications and final amplifier performance are obtained from simple models and checked against the more elaborate simulation. Problems associated with transistor gate-drain (feedback) capacitance are examined in a variety of ways. Pulse response and variation of gain with frequency are investigated by means of the computer simulation for a variety of transistor and amplifier specifications. The construction and testing of experimental amplifiers utilizing both junction and MOS (depletion) FET's is described and shows satisfactory agreement with theory. Bandwidths exceeding 200 Mc. at a gain of two have been achieved, using transistors with a gain-bandwidth product of 50 Mc. The principal limitations found at present are the low transconductance -- leading to low gain -- and cutoff frequency of currently available FET's. (Author).

Book How to Gain Gain

Download or read book How to Gain Gain written by Burkhard Vogel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-22 with total page 849 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 34 chapters of the 2nd edition of How to Gain Gain give a detailed insight into a collection (54) of the most common gain producing, constant current generating possibilities, and electronic noise creation of triodes for audio pre-amplifier purposes. These chapters also offer complete sets of formulae to calculate gain, frequency and phase responses, and signal-to-noise ratios of certain building blocks built-up with this type of vacuum valve (tube). In all cases detailed derivations of the gain formulae are also presented. All what is needed are the data sheet valve characteristic figures of the triode's mutual conductance, the gain factor and the internal plate (anode) resistance. To calculate frequency and phase responses of gain stages the different data sheet based input and output capacitances have to be taken into account too. To calculate transfer functions and signal-to-noise ratios for any kind of triode driven gain stage, including all its bias setting, frequency, phase, and electronic noise influencing components, example Mathcad 11 worksheets as an essential simulation tool for each chapter allow easy follow-up and application of the respective formulae. Free download of all worksheets is guaranteed from the editor's web-site.
