The Symposium was organized wi thin the framework of the Concerted Action COST 641* which is included in the Third R&D Programme on the Environment of the Commission of the European Communities. The aim of the Symposium was to review recent scientific and technical progress in the area of organic micropollutants in the aquatic environment and to present relevant research papers related to analytical methodologies, transformation reactions and transport of organic micropollutants in water, and water treatment processes. Download or read book Economic Evaluation of Climate Change Impacts written by Karl W. Steininger and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-02-26 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume deals with the multifaceted and interdependent impacts of climate change on society from the perspective of a broad set of disciplines. The main objective of the book is to assess public and private cost of climate change as far as quantifiable, while taking into account the high degree of uncertainty. It offers new insights for the economic assessment of a broad range of climate change impact chains at a national scale. The framework presented in the book allows consistent evaluation including mutual interdependencies and macroeconomic feedback. This book develops a toolbox that can be used across the many areas of climate impact and applies it to one particular country: Austria.

Book Who Is Knowledgeable Is Strong

Download or read book Who Is Knowledgeable Is Strong written by Cyrus Schayegh and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2009-03-31 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Who Is Knowledgeable Is Strong, Cyrus Schayegh tells two intertwined stories: how, in early twentieth-century Iran, an emerging middle class used modern scientific knowledge as its cultural and economic capital, and how, along with the state, it employed biomedical sciences to tackle presumably modern problems like the increasing stress of everyday life, people's defective willpower, and demographic stagnation. The book examines the ways by which scientific knowledge allowed the Iranian modernists to socially differentiate themselves from society at large and, at the very same time, to intervene in it. In so doing, it argues that both class formation and social reform emerged at the interstices of local Iranian and Western-dominated global contexts and concerns.
