Book Orthogonal Polynomials on the Unit Circle

Download or read book Orthogonal Polynomials on the Unit Circle written by Barry Simon and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2009-08-05 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-part book is a comprehensive overview of the theory of probability measures on the unit circle, viewed especially in terms of the orthogonal polynomials defined by those measures. A major theme involves the connections between the Verblunsky coefficients (the coefficients of the recurrence equation for the orthogonal polynomials) and the measures, an analog of the spectral theory of one-dimensional Schrodinger operators. Among the topics discussed along the way are the asymptotics of Toeplitz determinants (Szego's theorems), limit theorems for the density of the zeros of orthogonal polynomials, matrix representations for multiplication by $z$ (CMV matrices), periodic Verblunsky coefficients from the point of view of meromorphic functions on hyperelliptic surfaces, and connections between the theories of orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle and on the real line.

Book Martingale Hardy Spaces and Summability of One Dimensional Vilenkin Fourier Series

Download or read book Martingale Hardy Spaces and Summability of One Dimensional Vilenkin Fourier Series written by Lars-Erik Persson and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-11-22 with total page 633 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses, develops and applies the theory of Vilenkin-Fourier series connected to modern harmonic analysis. The classical theory of Fourier series deals with decomposition of a function into sinusoidal waves. Unlike these continuous waves the Vilenkin (Walsh) functions are rectangular waves. Such waves have already been used frequently in the theory of signal transmission, multiplexing, filtering, image enhancement, code theory, digital signal processing and pattern recognition. The development of the theory of Vilenkin-Fourier series has been strongly influenced by the classical theory of trigonometric series. Because of this it is inevitable to compare results of Vilenkin-Fourier series to those on trigonometric series. There are many similarities between these theories, but there exist differences also. Much of these can be explained by modern abstract harmonic analysis, which studies orthonormal systems from the point of view of the structure of a topological group. The first part of the book can be used as an introduction to the subject, and the following chapters summarize the most recent research in this fascinating area and can be read independently. Each chapter concludes with historical remarks and open questions. The book will appeal to researchers working in Fourier and more broad harmonic analysis and will inspire them for their own and their students' research. Moreover, researchers in applied fields will appreciate it as a sourcebook far beyond the traditional mathematical domains.

Book Pseudo Differential Operators And Markov Processes Volume Ii Generators And Their Potential Theory

Download or read book Pseudo Differential Operators And Markov Processes Volume Ii Generators And Their Potential Theory written by Niels Jacob and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2002-07-19 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume two topics are discussed: the construction of Feller and Lp-sub-Markovian semigroups by starting with a pseudo-differential operator, and the potential theory of these semigroups and their generators. The first part of the text essentially discusses the analysis of pseudo-differential operators with negative definite symbols and develops a symbolic calculus; in addition, it deals with special approaches, such as subordination in the sense of Bochner. The second part handles capacities, function spaces associated with continuous negative definite functions, Lp -sub-Markovian semigroups in their associated Bessel potential spaces, Stein's Littlewood-Paley theory, global properties of Lp-sub-Markovian semigroups, and estimates for transition functions.

Book A Treatise on Trigonometric Series

Download or read book A Treatise on Trigonometric Series written by N. K. Bary and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Treatise on Trigonometric Series, Volume 1 deals comprehensively with the classical theory of Fourier series. This book presents the investigation of best approximations of functions by trigonometric polynomials. Organized into six chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the fundamental concepts and theorems in the theory of trigonometric series, which play a significant role in mathematics and in many of its applications. This text then explores the properties of the Fourier coefficient function and estimates the rate at which its Fourier coefficients tend to zero. Other chapters consider some tests for the convergence of a Fourier series at a given point. This book discusses as well the conditions under which the series does converge uniformly. The final chapter deals with adjustment of a summable function outside a given perfect set. This book is a valuable resource for advanced students and research workers. Mathematicians will also find this book useful.

Book Trigonometric Fourier Series and Their Conjugates

Download or read book Trigonometric Fourier Series and Their Conjugates written by L. Zhizhiashvili and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research in the theory of trigonometric series has been carried out for over two centuries. The results obtained have greatly influenced various fields of mathematics, mechanics, and physics. Nowadays, the theory of simple trigonometric series has been developed fully enough (we will only mention the monographs by Zygmund [15, 16] and Bari [2]). The achievements in the theory of multiple trigonometric series look rather modest as compared to those in the one-dimensional case though multiple trigonometric series seem to be a natural, interesting and promising object of investigation. We should say, however, that the past few decades have seen a more intensive development of the theory in this field. To form an idea about the theory of multiple trigonometric series, the reader can refer to the surveys by Shapiro [1], Zhizhiashvili [16], [46], Golubov [1], D'yachenko [3]. As to monographs on this topic, only that ofYanushauskas [1] is known to me. This book covers several aspects of the theory of multiple trigonometric Fourier series: the existence and properties of the conjugates and Hilbert transforms of integrable functions; convergence (pointwise and in the LP-norm, p > 0) of Fourier series and their conjugates, as well as their summability by the Cesaro (C,a), a> -1, and Abel-Poisson methods; approximating properties of Cesaro means of Fourier series and their conjugates.

Book Advanced Engineering Mathematics

Download or read book Advanced Engineering Mathematics written by Alan Jeffrey and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-06-19 with total page 1181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced Engineering Mathematics provides comprehensive and contemporary coverage of key mathematical ideas, techniques, and their widespread applications, for students majoring in engineering, computer science, mathematics and physics. Using a wide range of examples throughout the book, Jeffrey illustrates how to construct simple mathematical models, how to apply mathematical reasoning to select a particular solution from a range of possible alternatives, and how to determine which solution has physical significance. Jeffrey includes material that is not found in works of a similar nature, such as the use of the matrix exponential when solving systems of ordinary differential equations. The text provides many detailed, worked examples following the introduction of each new idea, and large problem sets provide both routine practice, and, in many cases, greater challenge and insight for students. Most chapters end with a set of computer projects that require the use of any CAS (such as Maple or Mathematica) that reinforce ideas and provide insight into more advanced problems. - Comprehensive coverage of frequently used integrals, functions and fundamental mathematical results - Contents selected and organized to suit the needs of students, scientists, and engineers - Contains tables of Laplace and Fourier transform pairs - New section on numerical approximation - New section on the z-transform - Easy reference system
