While in the midst of moving, Hank and his wife, Kanani, are approached by a college student researching the early years of Hawaii's modern civil rights movement, which culminated in the rigorous protests surrounding the bombing of Kahoolawe in 1976. Hesitant at first, Hank and Kanani agree to talk about the past and their role in the movement. Vivid and sometimes painful memories surface, causing both of them to question their feelings of love and loyalty--not only for each other, but for their heritage. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mistakes that break the trust of a marriage often lead to the breakup of that most intimate of human relationships. But our God is a God of redemption and reconciliation, especially when it comes to the sanctity of what He has joined together. The mistakes that we make in marriage are quite often driven by the life experiences that we carry into adulthood. And so it is with Paul, the everyman in this story. After his infidelity is exposed, Paul's life is one of regret, and he comes to the realization that he has sacrificed the two most important things in his life: his wife and children. As he begins reading a novel based upon the Apostle Paul's shipwreck on his journey to Rome (Acts: 27), he realizes the importance of staying on the ship of faith and of marriage. He then embarks upon his own journey to draw closer to God and reconcile with his now ex-wife, Julie. In turn, Julie must wrestle with whether she can ever trust this man again. Will there be forgiveness and reconciliation in this marriage odyssey?
Download or read book In the Blink of an Eye written by Judy Cooley and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2024-05-13 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My parents were great influences in my life. From my mom, I learned optimism. I never saw my mom in a bad mood. She was always happy and looked at the good side of everyone and everything. When she wanted a fireplace, she substituted as a mail carrier and after a year, was able to buy it. Once when thinking she and Dad might get a new car, a fire prevented it. Dad was a logger, and the logs on the cold deck of the lumber mill had burned up, which prevented him from paying his workers with the money he would have received. Neither parent mentioned it to us kids, and nothing changed in their behavior. They never talked to us kids about money, having it or not having it. Mom cooked, sewed our clothes, painted the walls inside our home, and always found a way to make something out of nothing. Our parents took in an AFS student: Olga, Job Corps girls, Japanese students, and others, which had a big influence on me. I remember her sending packages to her pen pals in Europe after WWII. Family was the most important to her. Mom took us to visit her parents and their siblings and her siblings. We learned stories about all of them. We lived minutes from my father's family and got to know and love them, too. So many stories to tell. In fact, when my little granddaughter, Natasha, spent the night with me, she always asked for the stories. What fun! She always asked for the stories about the people (the relatives).

Download or read book The Bootleg Guide written by Garry Freeman and published by Lanham, Md. : Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 740 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bootleg Guide is the ultimate in reference works for the 1960s and the 1970s bootleg recordings. Within these pages lies a history of rock at its best, as performed on stage or in the studio. Each entry is catalogued by title, date, featured tracks, and contains a quality rating and comments on the nature and origin of the recording. Cross-references are provided to other titles and extensive information is available on alternate titles of bootlegs. In many cases, quirky facts about a particular title are given-something that in itself may make a title a highly desirable and sought-after 'rarity' amongst collectors. Limited editions are listed to help the reader and collector develop a clearer picture of just how obtainable a bootleg may be. Bootlegs are unofficial 'live' and studio recordings of artists and bands that are released onto vinyl, tape or CD. By definition, most are so rare that they change hands only for vastly inflated sums or are traded by networks of dedicated collectors worldwide. Serious fans and collectors have been known to spend as much as $225 for an original, scratchy vinyl recording of bands like Deep Purple and the Grateful Dead dating back to the early seventies. The rarest of all are akin to valuable paintings as far as collectors and traders are concerned.
