Book The Trials and Tribulations of Mary Agnes

Download or read book The Trials and Tribulations of Mary Agnes written by Anthony Horman and published by Book Venture Publishing LLC. This book was released on 2016-03-30 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We the children of Mary Agnes (Doherty) Horman want to tell the story of her life, full of tragedy interwoven with some but eventual happiness Mary Agnes had two sons Anthony J. Horman Jr and Harry William Horman. She also had one daughter Elaine Marie(Horman) Nelson. We decided to write her story after a genealogy study of her life revealed things unknown to us for most of our adolescent years. Whenever we asked questions about her childhood and other family interests she did not respond at least up to our expectations. We now know that she simply did not have answers to our questions as she was too young to remember most of her past. Mary’s parents lived unfortunate lives as both were plagued with sickness and death at very early ages. Without question, their early deaths had a great impact on Mary’s life. This story also depicts somewhat how the disease Tuberculosis (TB) ravaged many families in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Most of the families that were affected were immigrants.

Book The White Ojibway Medicine Man and Other Stories

Download or read book The White Ojibway Medicine Man and Other Stories written by Joseph Weinstein MD and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-09-28 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the remote Red Lake area in northwestern Ontario, The White Ojibway Medicine Man and Other Stories is an intriguing collection of short stories based on the trials and trepidations of a young doctor treating the Ojibway from 1955 to 1963. When Joe Weinstein first saw the ad for a temporary medical position in northwestern Ontario, he had no idea that one month would stretch into the most intense and challenging seven years of his life. Thrust into a world very different from his own, Joe not only had to acclimate himself to the rugged land, but to the people, as well. Joe artfully relates his encounters with the myths and legends of the Ojibway tribes living on reservations scattered throughout the area, their conflicts with the world of the white man, and how he succeeded in becoming their medicine man. Accompanied by vivid imagery, Joe also reveals the fascinating stories behind the lumberjacks, bush pilots, missionaries, prospectors, and geologists who found their way to this remote area for one reason or another. Filled with wit and wisdom, The White Ojibway Medicine Man and Other Stories is a heartfelt tribute to the people of Red Lake. But it also shows the courage of one man to leave the familiar, enter the unknown, and make a remarkable difference in the lives of his patients.

Book Eastern Orthodoxy Illuminated by the Gospel

Download or read book Eastern Orthodoxy Illuminated by the Gospel written by Ivica StamenkoviA++ and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-10-24 with total page 745 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Eastern Orthodoxy illuminated by the Gospel is one of the greatest books ever written about the Orthodoxy. Reading the book Eastern Orthodoxy illuminated by the Gospel is like climbing a high mountain, where your visual field gets expanded with each step, discovering new and exciting details, and finally gives an exceptional panoramic view that evokes the strongest feelings! Each new line is like a new stair leading to a highest top, from where you can observe the whole Orthodoxy. Orthodoxy from God's perspective. Light of the glorious Gospel and Christ's teachings shines like the sun throughout this book, illuminating a complete profession of faith of the Eastern Orthodox Church." Sladjan Djuric Author of the book Only Scripture, Serbia "I have never understood why Eastern Orthodox people practice or believe certain things. When I would ask, I would either get silence or a very confusing and superficial answer. Ivica's book made those mysterious things clear for the first time and helped me understand the essence and the roots of the Orthodox religion. Without exaggeration I think this is a first-class apologetic manual ever written. Everyone who is called to work with Orthodox believers should have this book because it can help them understand the people who practice Eastern Orthodoxy, and give them directions how to pray and preach the Gospel more efficiently (2. Corinthians 4:3-4, Ephesians 6:12).'' Jan Vareca Editor of a Christian e-magazine 'The trumpet of Zion', Serbia "Eastern Orthodoxy has been largely unknown in the West, but in the recent years there has been a surge of interest, particularly among Christians of Protestant/Evangelical orientation, many of whom wish to find out more about this mystical expression of faith that captivates by its ancient charm and connection to the early church fathers. The book Eastern Orthodoxy Illuminated by the Gospel by Ivica Stamenkovic will unlock the mysteries of Eastern Orthodoxy for the Western readers. A native of Serbia, a country with a strong Eastern Orthodox majority, Ivica had the advantage of studying Eastern Orthodoxy at its source. The product of his studies is a volume that deserves to be called nothing less than a textbook on Eastern Orthodoxy and probably the first of its kind available in the English language. His clear, scholarly approach leaves no stones unturned. Needless to say, a study such as this one has been long overdue in the West. Even though scholarly, the book is by no means "dry" and is an enjoyable read, cover to cover." Alex Jovanovic Pastor of Mooretown Brethren in Christ Church Sandusky, Michigan, USA

Book Miracles of Healing in the Gospel of Mark

Download or read book Miracles of Healing in the Gospel of Mark written by John I. Penn Sr. and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2021-12-01 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Early on in my study, it became evident that Mark was not simply recounting the healing incidents that Jesus had performed. Mark looked at the healing miracles of Jesus through the lens of God’s perspective. What was significant to Mark and what captured my spiritual imagination was his interpretation of the healing miracles. He made it clear to the readers that Jesus clearly understood the redemptive implications of his mission as the Jewish healer-redeemer. Jesus fully embraced his Messianic mission to bring salvation to the Hebrew people. He would become the perfect sacrificial lamb of God to bring about the restoration of fallen humanity. In and through him, God’s good creation would be restored. Through Jesus’ sacrificial death, God would create a new covenant of grace, which could be acceptable to both Jews and Gentiles. The healing miracles demonstrated the defeat of sin, sickness, death, and the evil influence of Satan’s demonic forces. Jesus did this by not only removing our sins but also taking the consequences of our sins upon himself, nailing them to the cross. All of Jesus’ healing miracles were interpreted similarly. I found Mark’s gospel both inspiring and informative, allowing me to see the heart, love, compassion, and mind of God for His creation.

Book Homesteads Ungovernable

  • Author : Mark M. Carroll
  • Publisher : University of Texas Press

Download or read book Homesteads Ungovernable written by Mark M. Carroll and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2001-01-01 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This is a delightful book. It makes an important contribution to historical scholarship on Texas and the Southwest, race relations, and several discrete subjects within family law, in particular marriage and the rights and duties of partners outside of marriage." --Elvia R. Arriola, Visiting Professor of Law, De Paul University When he settled in Mexican Texas in 1832 and began courting Anna Raguet, Sam Houston had been separated from his Tennessee wife Eliza Allen for three years, while having already married and divorced his Cherokee wife Tiana and at least two other Indian "wives" during the interval. Houston's political enemies derided these marital irregularities, but in fact Houston's legal and extralegal marriages hardly set him apart from many other Texas men at a time when illicit and unstable unions were common in the yet-to-be-formed Lone Star State. In this book, Mark Carroll draws on legal and social history to trace the evolution of sexual, family, and racial-caste relations in the most turbulent polity on the southern frontier during the antebellum period (1823-1860). He finds that the marriages of settlers in Texas were typically born of economic necessity and that, with few white women available, Anglo men frequently partnered with Native American, Tejano, and black women. While identifying a multicultural array of gender roles that combined with law and frontier disorder to destabilize the marriages of homesteaders, he also reveals how harsh living conditions, land policies, and property rules prompted settling spouses to cooperate for survival and mutual economic gain. Of equal importance, he reveals how evolving Texas law reinforced the substantial autonomy of Anglowomen and provided them material rewards, even as it ensured that cross-racial sexual relationships and their reproductive consequences comported with slavery and a regime that dispossessed and subordinated free blacks, Native Americans, and Tejanos.

Book Parenting in a Christian Perspective

Download or read book Parenting in a Christian Perspective written by Mary A. Whitfield and published by Author House. This book was released on 2007-05-01 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is based on God principles as being a parent. We have our own insights on how to raise our children. For instance, in the way our parents raised us. God is not with man-made philosophy or ideals. He is a Spirit, and they that worship Him, must worship Him in Spirit and Truth. John 4:24. So in raising our children we must do it in the values and upbringing of the Lord. He will guide you into all truth. There are so many aspects and revenues in the way of parenting that we miss out on the big picture. Which is seeing the true aspect of nurturing and loving our kids the way our heavenly father loves us as His dear children. He created us and knows everything we encounter in life and how to resolve every issue. So why shouldnt He know how to give us the ammunition we need in raising our children in the perspective of Him? Because with Him it is the right way to go. We can do everything in our little finite mind of what we feel is the right way to be a parent. But it always comes back to the maker, which is God. The ultimate parent of the whole universe. He will direct you in the way a parent should be. It is up to that individual to take heed of his word and direction for life as being a believer in Christ Jesus our Lord.
