Book The State of Taiwan

Download or read book The State of Taiwan written by Werner Somers and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-05-08 with total page 911 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China claims Taiwan as a renegade province. While saying it prefers peaceful unification, it has consistently refused to renounce the use of force to incorporate the democratic island. Increasingly, Taiwan has become a potential flash point for military conflict between China and the United States. After exploring the historical roots of the Taiwan question, The State of Taiwan offers an in-depth analysis of the international legal status of Taiwan. An extensive epilogue throws the bridge between the international legal findings and geopolitics, and outlines the strategy the world’s democracies should adopt in light of those findings.

Book excerpt: *Introduction *Paganism and Christianity *Donation of Constantine. *Destruction of the Old Testament and Talmud. *Celibacy Doctrine of Demons 1 Corinthians 9.5, 1 Timothy 4.3 *American Christianity. *Bible. *Crucifixion. *Confession *Crusades *Death penalty Capital punishment/Right of the Sword *Earth is flat. *Emperor Constantine *Early Vegetarian Christians. *Fire *God is White *Conclusion For nearly two millenniums Christianity has been compulsory, its will mandated upon their unsuspecting victims; taunting them, persecuting them, imprisoning them, torturing them, and, if need be, murdering them. Few records survive regarding the true history of Christianity that are not written by dogmatic Christian writers; almost all historical documents, manuscripts, and scrolls disagreeing with Christian interpretations of Scripture having been lost or destroyed. The First Crusade, after a rough beginning, the “Beggars' Crusade,” 1095-1099, is composed of thieves and beggars, finally managed to capture Jerusalem and much else beside, setting up a series of Crusader states to protect their gains. These managed pretty well until 1144, when the counterattacking Muslims took a couple of important Christian strongholds. “Many Franks had been sent on the crusade as penance for atrocious offenses such as rape and murder and reverted to their unpleasant habits. Pilgrims were a natural prey, though one of the principal objects of the crusade had been to make the Holy Places safe for them. The Monks of War, D. Seward, p. 33 Today, the Vatican, in all its glory, in all its magnificence, in all its entire splendor, stands as a tribute to the overwhelming magnitude of the crimes of the Church, in its quest for world dominance. Its history veiled in religious platitudes to appease the ignorant masses that often know little or nothing of the heinous crimes committed in the name of Jesus Christ; their God and Savior.

Book Cultural Diversity

Download or read book Cultural Diversity written by Kathlyn Gay and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States is perhaps the most culturally diverse nation in the world, and has frequently been called a "melting pot," "tossed salad," or "multicultural society" to reflect that diversity. However, since it's founding, the country has experienced conflicts--many of them violent--due to intolerance of values and views different from those of the majority. Cultural Diversity is a teen guide showing how cultural differences may be at the root of conflicts that crop up daily in high schools, on the job, in the courts, and even within families. In some cases these conflicts are the result of extreme racism, religious bigotry, or outright hatred for a particular group of people. This young adult resource is volume six in a new series entitled It Happened to Me, featuring teen voices. Topics such as prejudice, religious bigotry, racism, gender bias, sexual orientation, scapegoating, and stereotyping are presented with stories about young people who have faced problems and with forthright views from young people who have worked to foster respect for diversity. Along with anecdotes are historical perspectives. Each chapter begins with a quote, usually from a teenager whose words reflect the focus of the chapter. Numerous sidebars provide factual information about the causes of cultural conflicts, how stereotypes are perpetuated, the kinds of discrimination that various groups have suffered, and how hate groups operate. Scattered throughout the book are features that present conflict situations and ask readers: "What do you think?" In addition, readers are challenged to check out factual statements, to read other books that focus on cultural diversity issues, and to take action to instill respect for cultures different from the American mainstream.
