Book A Life of Travels and Researches in North America and South Europe

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Life of Travels and Researches in North America and South Europe: Or Outlines of the Life, Travels and Researches These outlines of my life and travels, are abridged from my memoirs, and journals of travels, begun to be written since 1796. They are chiefly a translation from a sketch of my travels written in French in 1833 and sent to France, to my only sister Mrs. G. Lanthois of Bordeaux. The style therefore is rather familiar and neglected. I regret the egotic form of it, and should have wished to have changed it to a recital in the third person, but this would have caused another objection. Thus it is given nearly as a plain translation, with the addition of the travels of 1834 and 1835, and some trifling alterations. The whole may be deemed an introduction to my works, particularly to any ulterior accounts of my travels, personal observations, and private memoirs. It is not a mere biographical sketch, but contains many facts, remarks and details chiefly in the latest travels - such sketches are dedicated to the small number of friends, who have been able to appreciate my zeal and labors, in the vast field of historical and natural knowledge. This book was released on 2019-01-18 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Across Unknown South America, Vol. 1 of 2 South America is, to my mind, the Coming Conti nent -the Continent of the future. Everybody knows the wealth of the Argentine, Peru, Chile, and Bolivia; but the interior of Brazil, the largest and richest country of all, not unlike forbidden Tibet, was perhaps better known a century or two ago than now. Few people realize that Brazil is larger than the United States of North America, Germany, Portugal, and a few other countries taken together. The interior is practically a term incognita - although the ancient Jesuits and, at a later date, escaped slaves and native rubber collectors have perhaps found their way inland to a considerable distance. Book Travels Through South American With the Children Classic Reprint

Download or read book Travels Through South American With the Children Classic Reprint written by Frank G. Carpenter and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-24 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Travels Through South American With the Children During this tour Mr. Carpenter has kept the children always in mind, and his story of their travels will, it is believed, bring them into a close personal relation with their brothers and sisters of South Merica. It will give them also a live working knowledge of the geography, re sources, and people of each of the republics, and of the social, industrial, and commercial relations which each holds to the United States. The plan is the same as that adopted in all the books of this series. It consists of imaginary travels made by the children with the author in the countries described. In this volume the children start out on a voyage from New York to the Isthmus of Panama, and from there move about leisurely from one South American country to another, making their observations and studies along the lines above mentioned. It is the children who do the traveling, and the book is the story of what they see and learn. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Rambles and Scrambles in North and South America There is no compulsion in book-reading if a person is amused, he reads it on to the end; if bored, he lays it down. Such being the case, an apology in a Preface is unnecessary; it does not make a dry book less so, or an amusing book readable. I shall therefore content myself With quoting the words of a writer of the olden time If I have done ill to write, let not others be so. Idle as to read. Franck and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-04-27 with total page 678 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Working North From Patagonia Being the Narrative of a Journey, Earned on the Way, Through, Southern and Eastern South America Though it stands by itself as a single entity, the present volume is a continuation and the conclusion of a four-year journey through latin-america, and a companion - piece to my Vagabonding Down the Andes. The entrance of the United States into the World War made it impossible until the present time to continue that narrative from the point where the story above mentioned left it; but though several years have elapsed since the journey herein chronicled was made, the conditions encountered are, with minor exceptions, those which still prevail. South American society moves with far more inertia than our own, and while the war brought a certain new prosperity to parts of that continent and a tendency to become, by force of necessity, somewhat more self-supporting in industry and less dependent upon the outside world for most manufactured neces sities, the countries herein visited remain for the most part what they were when the journey was made.
