I supplemented my meager income as a part time Chemical Dependency counselor in a Residential Hospital Clinic in San Pedro. A wanderer by nature and a variety of antecedent conditions; having exited an abusive home environment at the age of thirteen, enjoying the unknown rarely appeared too frightening to undertake. From shining shoes in my hometown hamlet of Crockett, pin setting on weekends in Vallejo, sweeping floors in a five and dime in Millington, Tennessee, a stint in the USAF which afforded me a two year stay in Post war Japan, a return to the states and entering junior college, marrying, then continuing to work right through the remaining two year of college, I entered the real work force - the one where I forgot my sense of discovery. Society said this and society said that, and like a reed blowing in all directions, I fell for the superficiality existing in the world of capitalism. Living in a state of semi-retirement became tedious, too predictable. The effort needed to just survive living on a reduced income seemed far too difficult, tiring and boring. The road beckoned and I chose not to refuse the call. I recently authored a fiction novel, "Smokie Joe's Café," which introduces the reader to the root causes of chemical addiction. Smokie Joes is the Camelot of all Rehabs and is available on Amazon/Kindle. Presently, I live with my Chinese wife, Tang Aijin in Long Beach, California.

An attitude of optimism prevailed, unaware that Ashville, like many rural communities, was not realizing the growth of the metropolitan and industrial areas, and that for the younger generation the future was not likely to be in Ashville. Later in life we understood the blessings and meaning of small-town values, the unique shared experiences, and lasting friendships from growing up in Ashville.

We were white kids in a middle- to upper-middle-class neighborhood that knew the same teachers and hangouts. We experienced the same times of newswar, racial unrest, space exploration, and the confusion we faced through it all. We could forget about it when we played the music. The Motown Sound, the rock and roll, and the folk music were all about us and the world we lived in. Come and take a stroll with me through the sixties. Remember the cars, the TV programs, and the people you hung out with. I hope that when you are reading this, you see something of yourself in it. It is a progression through the years and how one girl grew up through that time while experiencing the ups and downs of life and forever searching for the elusive love of her lifethe man of her dreams. I would imagine that this book would appeal to anyone that lived anywhere during those years and was a teenager. The music was American. We shared it. The cars were American. We shared those and everything else that came to pass during that time. Maybe todays youth that are interested in history, music, and inspiration will find something of interest here also. As unique as we think we are, we all have a lot in common. We are human, subject to growing and learning every day. Thank you to those who played roles in the history of this story, and thank you to my family and friends who have encouraged me over the years to write a book. Well, here it is.
