Book Traveling Bodies

Download or read book Traveling Bodies written by Nicole Maruo-Schröder and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-09-29 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traveling Bodies: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Traveling as an Embodied Practice explores the central role the body has in and for traveling and thus complements and expands upon existing research in travel studies with new perspectives on and insights in the entanglement of bodies and traveling. The case studies assembled in this volume discuss a variety of traveling practices, experiences, and media with chapters featuring Asian, American, and European historical and contemporary perspectives. Truly interdisciplinary in its approach, the volume identifies and examines diverse literary, historical and cultural texts, contexts, and modes in which traveling and the body intersect, including ‘classic’ travelogues, (new) media (e.g., film, digital travel apps), surf culture, and travel-inspired tattoos. The contributions offer various avenues for further research, not only for scholars working with body theory and travel (writing), but also for anyone interested in the intersections of literature, culture, media, and embodied practices of traveling.

Download or read book Linguistic Bodies written by Ezequiel A. Di Paolo and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2023-05-09 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A novel theoretical framework for an embodied, non-representational approach to language that extends and deepens enactive theory, bridging the gap between sensorimotor skills and language. Linguistic Bodies offers a fully embodied and fully social treatment of human language without positing mental representations. The authors present the first coherent, overarching theory that connects dynamical explanations of action and perception with language. Arguing from the assumption of a deep continuity between life and mind, they show that this continuity extends to language. Expanding and deepening enactive theory, they offer a constitutive account of language and the co-emergent phenomena of personhood, reflexivity, social normativity, and ideality. Language, they argue, is not something we add to a range of existing cognitive capacities but a new way of being embodied. Each of us is a linguistic body in a community of other linguistic bodies. The book describes three distinct yet entangled kinds of human embodiment, organic, sensorimotor, and intersubjective; it traces the emergence of linguistic sensitivities and introduces the novel concept of linguistic bodies; and it explores the implications of living as linguistic bodies in perpetual becoming, applying the concept of linguistic bodies to questions of language acquisition, parenting, autism, grammar, symbol, narrative, and gesture, and to such ethical concerns as microaggression, institutional speech, and pedagogy.

Book excerpt: Now, out-of-body experience is accessible to everyone. It is now known how to easily master it and apply it effectively. It is new way for obtaining information, influencing the physiology, meeting the deceased, visiting any place in the universe etc. This guidebook is the result of ten years of extremely active personal practice and study of the the phase state (lucid dreaming and out-of-body experience), coupled with having successfully taught it to thousands of people. I know all of the problems that are usually run into when getting to know this phenomenon, and have tried to protect future practitioners from them. This guidebook was not created for those who prefer empty reading. It is for those who would like to learn something. It contains no speculations or stories, only dry facts and techniques. Contrary to popular opinion, there is nothing difficult about this phenomenon. The techniques work in literally a couple of attempts. More info and full FREE version on www.obe4u.com
