Book excerpt: The Defining Decade for the #Adulting generation—a book that blends storytelling and data to unpack the choices you make in your twenties, why they matter, and how to turn those critical years into a launchpad for the life you want. We tend to think of our twenties as a playground for life: A time for low-consequence experimentation and delaying big decisions. But the truth is that while you’re muddling through those years—exploring new cities, dating the wrong people, hopping between jobs—a small shift in your flight path can mean the difference between landing on Mars or Saturn. As the data shows, the choices we make (or put off) during this critical decade about our career, marriage, health, friends, even downtime have the greatest impact on how our lives play out. For example, did you know that people who marry between the ages of 28 and 32 have the lowest risk of divorce? And that the average 25 year old has 20 close friends, but this will shrink to 8 after age 40? And that most of us don’t acquire new hobbies after we hit our thirties? Rather than prescribing one correct path (who are we kidding, there’s no such thing anyway!), Elizabeth Segran invites readers to think critically and holistically about the life they want to build. With signature warmth and humor, Segran is the guide we all wish we had to show us the way. Blending insightful anecdotes with research from economics, sociology, and political science, The Rocket Years is an empowering exploration of these exciting, confusing, wonderful years.

Book Travel Like a Millionaire Without Being One

Download or read book Travel Like a Millionaire Without Being One written by Sigrid Carter and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2018-04-12 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sigrid Carters life story is worthy of becoming a movie. This was true before she even turned thirty. As an adventurous girl in her twenties, she and three girlfriends from Germany trekked from Colorado to the Pacific coast of Panama, where the group of friends took a canoe into the ocean, got lost, and found themselves surrounded by sharks, just as bad weather set in. Somehow, they survived. The tide carried them to the shores of Columbia, where they spent time living with Indians. Further into their exciting adventure, they assisted biologists researching the Amazon rain forests. The chief of that US expedition later became Sigrids husband. A Peruvian filmmaker did, in fact, turn the ordeal into a television movie, but before the girls had the chance to see the movie, they were already in Chile, busy continuing the lives most of us can only imagine.

Book Finding Solace through Travel

Download or read book Finding Solace through Travel written by Nilima Pradhan and published by Nilima Pradhan. This book was released on 2020-04-22 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Travel is not a luxury, it is a necessity. Most people do not understand this hard fact of life. “Life is a journey that must be traveled no matter how bad the roads and accommodations”- Oliver Goldsmith If I don’t travel I feel I’m missing an important part of my life. I need to travel to release stress, to get back to my senses. The kind of stressful life we have now-a-days, we are hardly living in true sense. I sometimes wonder, do we even know our self in totality? Have you ever questioned who you are and what you really like doing? Have you ever questioned is life just waking up in the morning, going to office and getting back home? Is that what you are born to do in this earth? When was the last time you slept peacefully like a baby? I am sure most of you won’t be happy to answer these questions. You don’t have to let me know, please answer it to yourself. If the answer of any of these questions is not satisfying to you, then I suggest you pack your bags and travel. Travel can do wonders! There is a quote by Saint Augustine, which goes “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page”. I have tried to narrate about few of the places where I’ve been which has helped my personal growth and healed my soul.

Book Escape The Real Motivation for Leisure Travel

Download or read book Escape The Real Motivation for Leisure Travel written by Jens Kaulbars and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2013-08-06 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2009 in the subject Tourism - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,0, University of Applied Sciences Bremerhaven, language: English, abstract: Human behaviour is one of the most interesting topics to be studied, but also one of the most complex. But who would not be relieved if he would know the reason why humans sometimes behave as they do? Especially in the field of tourism, a domain of intense human interaction, where offering services is the core activity of most businesses, it would be quite favourable to predict how potential customers or business partners do react; or if the extensive marketing spending has the desired impact. Consequently, this work focuses on the topic of human motivation, particularly on the motivation of travelling behaviour, drawing attention to a field that is as diverse as the ways it can be approached. Tourism researchers usually refer to an established set of theories and models to describe motivated behaviour, of which Maslow’s ‘Hierarchy of Needs’ probably is the most renowned. But considering its year of publication, it is remarkable that there is no established contemporary approach to behavioural research. Accordingly, the objective of this work is to develop a theoretical model relating the variety of leisure travel elements to as few as possible underlying motivations, being responsible for thriving one of the biggest industrial sectors of the world. Research was carried out by undertaking in-depth interviews in the context of grounded theory methodologies, investigating the travel behaviour, experiences and motives of a small sample, detecting relations and dependencies, and drawing according conclusions. Based on the analysed data a theoretical model emerged, defining the motivation for any leisure travel activities as psychological escape, an instinctive reflex to a temporary dissatisfaction caused by a variety of influences.

Book Travel English for Busy Travelers Level 1

Download or read book Travel English for Busy Travelers Level 1 written by David Ellis and published by David Ellis. This book was released on 2015-09-03 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: " The goal of this self-study e-textbook is to help you quickly learn a special type of English, travel English. The e-book is written for EFL (English as a Foreign Language) students who are too busy to take a course in travel English but who still want to learn English they need for world travel. The book focuses on topics, not grammar. Grammar patterns that are useful for conversation are taught, but the focus is on topics that are important for travelers, such as going through immigration and customs, checking into a hotel, ordering at a restaurant, changing money, getting help, taking public transportation, renting cars, and shopping. Each chapter includes a short and a long conversation. Students can easily practice changing words in the long conversations by changing underlined words. The book is designed for self-study with lots of exercises on vocabulary (new words and phrases), reading comprehension, and grammar patterns; you can easily check your answers with an answer key at the bottom of each exercise. The book is written for beginners, but it can be used as a good review book for false beginners and intermediate students. The order of chapters follows the natural order of things tourists probably need to do when they travel—starting with immigration, customs, checking into a hotel, introducing yourself, and moving on to topics such as ordering at a restaurant and bar, changing money, getting around (by taxi, bus, subway, and train), and going shopping. The reading passages at the end of each chapter are written on topics that will help you avoid many problems foreign tourists have when traveling in America and other English-speaking countries. There are two chapters titled Can You Do It? (Chapters 5 and 10) that help students review important points from the e-book. Students can easily move around the book and find topics of interest by using the e-Book’s Table of Contents. Work at your own pace in order to get ready for your next trip to places all around the world where English is spoken. *Table of Contents* How Your Tablet Can Help You Learn English How to Use this Book Chapter 1: Arriving at an International Airport Immigration (Passport Control) Customs (Customs Control) Good and Bad Answers at Immigration & Customs Chapter 2: Introducing Yourself & Checking into a Hotel Introducing Yourself at a Hotel Bar Introducing Two People Checking into a Hotel Introducing Yourself in English Chapter 3: Going Out to Eat At a Fast-food Restaurant Choosing Dinner on an Airplane Ordering Dinner at a Restaurant Magic Words for Ordering Food and Drinks Chapter 4: Getting Help Talking with Hotel Staff Trying to Find a Lost Bag How to Get Help and Information at Your Hotel Chapter 5: Can You Do It? Book How I Made 3 200 000 from My Hobby Cutting to the Chase

Download or read book How I Made 3 200 000 from My Hobby Cutting to the Chase written by Michael Bernhart and published by Hough Publishing. This book was released on 2020-08-29 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maxwell Smythe Brown IV is a smart-ass by design. To counter the ridicule his fancy name attracted, Brown the child became the point person in pranks, taunts, and mischief that kept him in hot water with teachers, principals, clerics and coaches. As he grew older, he added irreverence to mischievousness and his circle of victims and antagonists expanded to include military commanders, bosses and colleagues. When his clever speech and picaresque ways help him win the hand of a stunningly beautiful woman, it goes wrong; she’s dismally unsuited for marriage and makes his life miserable. There are occasional bright spots: his disregard for authority and convention helps him survive the Vietnam war. But his inability to keep his mouth shut and his fly zipped costs him his university sinecure and he’s exiled to Dhaka, Bangladesh. Three hundred years earlier the great Moghul Khan Shaista abruptly abandoned his post in the same city. The Khan’s youngest and favorite daughter had succumbed to disease and the grief stricken Khan fled the country, but not – it is believed – before burying a treasure as a memorial to her short life. For three centuries fortune hunters have searched for the rumored treasure but Brown has an advantage. As an accessory to a pretentious name he’s taken on a pretentious hobby: collecting antiquarian maps. Initially unaware of the importance of the information on one of his old maps, Brown sets in motion events that bring him closer to the treasure, but also attract the competitive attention of six brutal castoffs of an Indian intelligence service. Before the dust settles, two men have been beheaded, another skinned, a bystander strangled and two more fatally shot. With wit and irreverence, the book chronicles the journey of a man whose outward self-assurance and brashness mask wavering self-regard. As Brown acknowledges, it’s a full time job keeping up appearances. But he’s not without depth. A continuing theme is his quest for the true nature of a compassionate God who, paradoxically, presides over a universe of undeniable evil.Throughout, Professor Brown is our acerbic guide to: an unholy war, college campuses in the 70’s, a university exhibiting signs of tenure-induced rigor mortis, a Thai brothel, the watering holes of Europe, and life in the bottom-most percentile of the third world. This edition (Cutting to the Chase) is an abridged version of the original book. Several readers said they would like to move more rapidly through the character development sections to the fast-paced thriller when Max takes up the treasure hunt in earnest (and the corpses stack up). Out of respect for that feedback, the novel was extensively revised to provide this – a more conventional – thriller.

Pip Stewart Why We Travel is a smart-thinking travel book, which uses travel as a window into human motivations. It explores what we can gain from venturing out into the world. It threads together reflective memoir, evocative travelogue, research, conversation, advice and big ideas. Some of the travels are epic adventures; others are closer to home; and some are journeys of internal exploration. Each journey is a window into one of 12 motivations for travel: Curiosity, Inspiration, Happiness, Creativity, Serendipity, Hardship, Service, Healing, Wonder, Empathy, Eroticism, and Hope. By unpacking these motivations, and digging into the science of where they come from, this book asks how travel intersects with the rest of our lives, answering key questions such as: Why do we travel? How do we do it better? Can it help us to live more fulfilling lives?
