El dopaje, comportamiento antirreglamentario por antonomasia en la práctica deportiva moderna, no ha escapado de esta intervención. Así, en el año 2021, Colombia empezó a usar la ley penal para combatir el doping en el deporte, a través de la Ley 2083 del 2021 que modificó el artículo 380 del Código Penal. Esta reforma legislativa transformó el antiguo delito de "Suministro o formulación ilegal a deportistas" en un verdadero tipo penal de dopaje. Sin embargo, tanto su aplicación como su existencia misma parecen no alinearse con los principios fundamentales de nuestro sistema jurídico. Este trabajo, tras un análisis histórico del dopaje en el deporte y los avances en su erradicación, se propone, por un lado, identificar y explicar los elementos esenciales y las vicisitudes del nuevo tipo penal de dopaje en Colombia; y por otro, exponer los principales argumentos dogmáticos y político-criminales que respaldan su eliminación.

Tras lo cual, y especialmente, en la obra se pormenoriza la acción jurisdiccional del Tribunal Arbitral del Deporte. En segundo término, el modelo español de lucha contra el dopaje es el eje principal de la Monografía. El análisis de su Ordenamiento jurídico, desde sus primeros pasos hasta la vigente Ley Orgánica de protección de la salud del deportista y lucha contra el dopaje en el deporte, tiene tratamiento ordenado y sucesivo, que culmina con la labor revisora de los Tribunales de Justicia expresada en sus decisiones y con su doctrina jurisprudencial. Decisiones y doctrina que también aparecen reflejadas con la profundidad necesaria. Un modelo consolidado hoy y con futuro para el mañana. El autor es un extremeño nacido en Llerena. Licenciado y Doctor en Veterinaria por la Universidad de Córdoba. También Licenciado en Ciencias Biológicas por la Universidad cordobesa. Es Catedrático de Anatomía y Embriología de la Facultad de Veterinaria de la Universidad extremeña desde 1986. Su especial afición al orbe jurídico le llevó a estudiar la carrera, alcanzando la licenciatura en la Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad Nacional a Distancia. Sus estudios jurídicos los culminó en diciembre de 2014 con el grado de Doctor por la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos de Madrid, obtenido con la unanimidad del Tribunal que juzgó la tesis doctoral. At its centre is a rejection of the death penalty as excessive, unnecessary, and pointless. Beccaria is deservedly regarded as the founding father of modern criminal-law reform, yet he was not the first to argue for the abolition of the death penalty. Against the Death Penalty presents the first English translation of the Florentine aristocrat Giuseppe Pelli's critique of capital punishment, written three years before Beccaria's treatise, but lost for more than two centuries in the Pelli family archives. Peter Garnsey examines the contrasting arguments of the two abolitionists, who drew from different intellectual traditions. Pelli was a devout Catholic influenced by the writings of natural jurists such as Hugo Grotius, whereas Beccaria was inspired by the French Enlightenment philosophers. While Beccaria attacked the criminal justice system as a whole, Pelli focused on the death penalty, composing a critique of considerable depth and sophistication. Garnsey explores how Beccaria's alternative penalty of forced labour, and its conceptualisation as servitude, were embraced in Britain and America, and delves into Pelli's voluminous diaries, shedding light on Pelli's intellectual development and painting a vivid portrait of an Enlightenment man of letters and of conscience. Credit Nation examines how the drive to expand credit shaped property laws and legal institutions in the colonial and founding eras of the republic. In this major new history of early America, Claire Priest describes how the British Parliament departed from the customary ways that English law protected land and inheritance, enacting laws for the colonies that privileged creditors by defining land and slaves as commodities available to satisfy debts. Colonial governments, in turn, created local legal institutions that enabled people to further leverage their assets to obtain credit. Priest shows how loans backed with slaves as property fueled slavery from the colonial era through the Civil War, and that increased access to credit was key to the explosive growth of capitalism in nineteenth-century America. Credit Nation presents a new vision of American economic history, one where credit markets and liquidity were prioritized from the outset, where property rights and slaves became commodities for creditors' claims, and where legal institutions played a critical role in the Stamp Act crisis and other political episodes of the founding period.

It is possible to transform many institutions to build societies with less predation and more freedom. These stretch from families and institutions of gender to the United Nations. Some societies, times and places have crime rates a hundred times higher than others. Some police forces kill at a hundred times the rate of others. Some criminal corporations kill thousands more than others. Micro variables fail to explain these patterns. Prevention principles for that challenge are macrocriminological. Freedom is conceived in a republican way as non-domination. Tempering domination prevents crime; crime prevention reduces domination. Many believe a high crime rate is a price of freedom.
