Book Transportation Services for Older Adults and Nonemergency Medical Transportation

Download or read book Transportation Services for Older Adults and Nonemergency Medical Transportation written by Patricia Harris-Bowen and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the U.S. population ages, access to safe and reliable transportation alternatives is critical to helping older adults remain in their homes as long as possible. HHS, DOT, VA, and other federal agencies may provide funds to state and local entities to help older adults access transportation. This book examines the federal programs that provide funding for transportation services for older adults and the extent to which the programs that fund these services are coordinated; and how state and local transportation agencies and aging network organisations in selected states coordinate transportation for older adults and the challenges they face in coordinating or providing these services. The book also addresses the federal programs that provide funding for NEMT services; how federal agencies are coordinating NEMT services; and how NEMT services are coordinated at the state and local levels and the challenges to coordination.

Book Start Your Own Senior Transportation Business

Download or read book Start Your Own Senior Transportation Business written by Craig Wallin and published by . This book was released on 2020-01-26 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discover how you can earn $35 to $60 an hour driving seniors to medical appointments. This fast-growing service business is needed every day in every town and you can get started on a shoestring. One in five seniors does not drive and many of those may be forced to stay home due to lack of transportation and miss a medical appointment or be unable to shop for groceries. A private senior transportation service helps those seniors get around easily. In addition, the federal government now requires that state medicaid programs cover the cost of transportation to medical appointments. This has created even more opportunities for local senior transportation businesses.A senior transportation can be started with very little money - if you have a reliable car and a cellphone, you're almost there. The rewards are great - not just in dollars and cents - but in helping seniors live better lives by helping them enjoy their independence as long as possible. That's priceless. What is an N.E.M.T. vehicle? Unlike some specialized medical transportation vehicles - like an ambulance - a basic senior ride service does not require a special vehicle to transport seniors. There are far more seniors who are able to walk and just need a ride on a regular basis. NEMT is short for non-emergency medical transport. The name means exactly that - unlike an ambulance, your vehicle, whether a car, SUV or minivan, is an NEMT vehicle if you are taking passengers to and from medical appointments. You won't need to buy an expensive new van or specialized equipment, because you can focus on where there is a steady demand - transporting seniors who are able to walk. ( The medical term is "ambulatory")The opportunities are wide open in this fast-growing field, and so is the potential for an above-average income that's recession-proof. At current rates, a six-figure income is not uncommon for full-time drivers. If you've always wanted to be your own boss, running a business that makes a positive difference in people's lives every day, and are a caring person, take the first step by reading my step-by-step guide. The advice you'll find in the book will give you a head start, reduce risk, and cut startup costs. So you can get started right away, the book also contains a list of major transportation brokers who hire local drivers in all states.

Book Iowa Medicaid Non emergency Medical Transportation System Review and Options for Improvements

Download or read book Iowa Medicaid Non emergency Medical Transportation System Review and Options for Improvements written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inadequate transportation has long been identified as a major issue in rural Iowa, and it is particularly acute for people of all ages with disabilities and their families, including Medicaid members. In 2005 the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) received a federal Real Choices Systems Transportation Grant to address a number of barriers to community living faced by this population, including transportation. Iowa Medicaid Enterprise (IME), charged with administration of the grant, was interested in the ways in which a statewide, Medicaid-funded transportation brokerage could improve services for Medicaid members. Currently, Medicaid members are reimbursed for transporting themselves, or providers are reimbursed for transporting individuals, which places the bulk of the responsibility on consumers, DHS Income Maintenance workers and case managers. Under a brokerage, IME would contract with an entity to (1) establish a network of transportation providers; (2) maintain a call center; (3) ensure compliance with Medicaid regulations related to eligibility of the individual and trip; (4) arrange and pay for the trips; and (5) monitor services and transportation providers for compliance and quality. States that have established brokerages have, in general, experienced an increase in the number of trips and a reduction in the cost per trip. In some instances, significant problems with fraud have been addressed. The brokerage concept has been actively supported at the federal level for both Medicaid and the general population.

Book Introduction to Senior Transportation

Download or read book Introduction to Senior Transportation written by Helen K. Kerschner and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-01-31 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Senior Transportation focuses on an issue that is a growing concern—the community mobility needs of older adults. Surpassing the coverage available in existing gerontology textbooks, it enables the reader to understand and appreciate the challenges faced by older adults as they make the transition from driving to using transportation options (many of which were not designed to meet their particular needs). It considers the physical and cognitive limitations of older adult passengers, the family of transportation services, the challenges providers face in meeting the assistance and support needs of senior passengers, and the transportation methods that do and do not currently meet the needs and wants of senior passengers. This textbook addresses the educational and professional development needs of faculty, students, and practitioners working in the fields of aging, aging services, and transportation. The book has been class-tested and features innovative, practical learning tools that appeal to students and practitioners. It complements any introductory course in gerontology, human development and aging, or human factors, and will enhance the curriculum of programs in the social behavioral sciences as well as traffic safety, transit engineering, and community planning.
