Book Transport Phenomena in Partially Ionized Plasma

Download or read book Transport Phenomena in Partially Ionized Plasma written by Vladimir. A. Rozhansky and published by Gordon & Breach Science Publishers. This book was released on 2001-09 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transport phenomena in plasmas are the relatively slow process of particle, momentum and energy transport in systems in a state of mechanical equilibrium. In contrast to neutral gases, these phenomena in plasmas are greatly influenced by self-consistent fields in particular electric fields. These can produce particle and energy fluxes, in addition to those generated by the homogeneity of the plasma composition and temperature. As a result, the physical effects accompanying transport phenomena in plasmas are far more numerous and complicated than those in neutral gases, and the solution of corresponding problems is more difficult. The effects however, are usually far more interesting and sometimes surprising.Presenting a systematic survey and analysis of the main mechanism of transport phenomena in plasma this book also gives examples of gradually increasing complexity to illustrate these mechanisms and the relationships between them. Special attention is paid to the analysis of experimentalmeasurements, and the relevant processes are considered analytically as well as qualitatively. Many of the problems dealt with are of considerable practical interest, and the phenomena described often determine the main characteristics of processes and devices. Therefore this book will be of interest to researchers who need to know the properties of real, specific systems, as well as to engineers and advanced students in the physics of plasmas, semiconductors, various types of gas discharges and the ionosphere.

Book Nonequilibrium Processes in Partially Ionized Gases

Download or read book Nonequilibrium Processes in Partially Ionized Gases written by M. Capitelli and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 682 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The NATO . Advanced Research Insti tute on Nonequilibrium Processes in Partially Ionized Gases was held at Acquafredda di Maratea during 4-17 June 1989. The Institute considered the interconnections between scattering and transport theories and modeling of nonequilibrium systems generated by electrical discharges, emphasizing the importance of microscopic processes in affecting the bulk properties of plasmas. The book tries to reproduce these lines. In particular several contributions describe scattering cross sections involving electrons interacting with atoms and molecules in both ground and excited states (from theoretical and experimental point of view), of energy transfer processes as well as reactive ones involving excited molecules colliding with atoms and molecules as well as with metallic surfaces. Other contributions deal with the basis of transport theories (Boltzmann and Monte Carlo methods) for describing the bulk properties of non equilibrium plasmas as well as with the modeling of complicated systems emphasizing in particular the strong coupling between the Boltzmann equation and excited state kinetics. Finally the book contains several contributions describing applications in different fields such as Excimer Lasers, Negative Ion Production, RF Discharges, Plasma Chemistry, Atmospheric Processes and Physics of Lamps. Book Energy Transfer Processes in a Partially Ionized Gas

Download or read book Energy Transfer Processes in a Partially Ionized Gas written by Gordon L. Cann and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Section I deals with an analysis of the transport properties of a partially ionized gas subject to the constraint that the average random energy of all constituent particles is exactly equal (equipartition of energy). The analysis indicates that the electron and ion diffusion velocities are more closely coupled than the equations of Chapman and Cowling show. It is shown that the only part of the thermal conductivity that can be influenced by a magnetic field is that part of the energy carried by the diffusion of the charged particles. For this reason, magnetic fields, in general, cannot be nearly as effective in reducing heat transfer rates as was previously thought. Section II deals with the development of a similarity solution for axially symmetric electric discharges. The solution is evaluated for a discharge in argon gas at one atmosphere pressure in which the temperature on the axis of the discharge varies from 6,000 K to 19,000 K. Section III is concerned with the mechanisms of energy transfer in arc jet devices. The various possible electrode configurations are discussed in detail and compared. (Author).

Book Propagation of High power Laser Radiation in Partially Ionized Gases

Download or read book Propagation of High power Laser Radiation in Partially Ionized Gases written by Robert J. Papa and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When a laser beam of sufficiently high intensity interacts with a weakly ionized gas, the nonuniform deposition of laser energy into the electron gas causes heating of the electrons, ions, and neutral gas. Eventually, the neutral gas will 'break-down' and become more highly ionized. This ionization can seriously limit the amount of laser energy that can damage a target. A multifluid model has been devised to describe the many physical processes that occur when the high power laser wave interacts with the partially ionized gas. A flexible computer program has been developed to numerically integrate the multifluid plasma transport equations coupled with Maxwell's equations. The computer program is sufficiently general so as to be capable of describing target vaporization, with diffusion and ionization of target material into an ambient gas. In this report, only the modification of an ambient gas by the laser radiation is studied.

Book Transport Processes in Multicomponent Plasma

Download or read book Transport Processes in Multicomponent Plasma written by V.M. Zhdanov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2002-04-11 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transport Processes in Multicomponent Plasma is a revised and updated version of the original Russian edition. The book examines transport phenomena in multicomponent plasma and looks at important issues such as partially ionized gases, molecular gas mixtures and methods of calculating kinetic coefficients. It makes a logical progression from simpler to more general problems, and the results presented in the book may be used to calculate the kinetic coefficients of plasma in electric and magnetic fields. The author concludes by describing several practical applications such as electrical conductivity and Hall's effect in MHD-generators. Transport Processes in Multicomponent Plasma will be of interest to advanced students and specialized researchers working in various aspects of plasma physics, including both cold plasmas for industrial research and high temperature plasmas in fusion.
