Book Transonic Nozzle Afterbody Flow Field Measurements Using a Laser Doppler Velocimeter

Download or read book Transonic Nozzle Afterbody Flow Field Measurements Using a Laser Doppler Velocimeter written by F. L. Heltsley and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation is described for providing detailed nonintrusive laser Doppler velocimeter (LDV) flow field measurements for several nozzle-afterbody configurations with cold nitrogen exhaust jets. Pertinent information about the test facility and associated instrumentation system is given. The test articles, including one with a 15 deg. boattail afterbody and two having blunt bases, are described. The two-color, two-component LDV optical package and data acquisition; system used for the flow field measurements are discussed. The effects of particle dynamics upon the LDV measurement uncertainty are reviewed. Recent work directed toward predicting and correcting for such effects is explained. Fluorescent seeding was used in conjunction with multiple seeding techniques to gain a more complete understanding of the complex flow interactions in the model base region. Test results are summarized and selected data are presented and discussed.

Book Two component Simultaneous LDV Turbulence Measurements in an Axisymmetric Nozzle Afterbody Subsonic Flow Field with a Cold Underexpanded Supersonic Jet

Download or read book Two component Simultaneous LDV Turbulence Measurements in an Axisymmetric Nozzle Afterbody Subsonic Flow Field with a Cold Underexpanded Supersonic Jet written by F. L. Heltsley and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A test was conducted to obtain nonintrusive measurements in the flow field about an axisymmetric nozzle afterbody with a cold, underexpanded jet, M sub j=1.563, in a parallel free stream, M sub alpha = 0.6. Reynolds shear stress and two components of mean velocity and turbulence intensity were measured using a two-color Bragg-diffracted laser Doppler velocimeter. Additional experimental data include the afterbody surface pressure distribution and laser vapor screen flow visualization of the jet plume. A multiple seeding technique was used to investigate the bimodal velocity probability distributions observed in the jet mixing region. (Author).

Book Laser Velocimetry Measurements of Vortex Flows on a Delta Wing at Mach 1 9

Download or read book Laser Velocimetry Measurements of Vortex Flows on a Delta Wing at Mach 1 9 written by Linda G. Smith and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Off-body flow visualizations and fluid velocity measurements are conducted in a supersonic vortex flow. Three-dimensional laser velocimetry measurements are made in the leeward flowfield over a simple sharp-edged delta wing with 75 degree sweep angle. Tests are conducted at Mach 1.9 and Reynolds number of 2.4 x 10(exp 6) based on model root chord. Measurements are made at 40% and 80% chord positions for 20 and 30 degree angles of attack and at 40% chord for 35 degrees. Mean velocities and turbulence intensities are measured on the five planes. Measurement accuracy is discussed in detail. The measurements define the location of the vortex core and provide the flowfield velocities surrounding the vortex. The difficulties inherent with seeding high velocity vortex flows are discussed ... Laser Velocimetry Measurement of Vortical Flowfields.

Book Laser Velocimetry in Fluid Mechanics

Download or read book Laser Velocimetry in Fluid Mechanics written by Alain Boutier and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-01-09 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In fluid mechanics, velocity measurement is fundamental in order to improve the behavior knowledge of the flow. Velocity maps help us to understand the mean flow structure and its fluctuations, in order to further validate codes. Laser velocimetry is an optical technique for velocity measurements; it is based on light scattering by tiny particles assumed to follow the flow, which allows the local fluid flow velocity and its fluctuations to be determined. It is a widely used non-intrusive technique to measure velocities in fluid flows, either locally or in a map. This book presents the various techniques of laser velocimetry, as well as their specific qualities: local measurements or in plane maps, mean or instantaneous values, 3D measurements. Flow seeding with particles is described with currently used products, as well as the appropriate aerosol generators. Post-processing of data allows us to extract synthetic information from measurements and to perform comparisons with results issued from CFD codes. The principles and characteristics of the different available techniques, all based on the scattering of light by tiny particles embedded in the flow, are described in detail; showing how they deliver different information, either locally or in a map, mean values and turbulence characteristics.

Book Data Report for a Test Program to Study Transonic Flow Fields about Aircraft with Application to External Stores Volume V Flow Field Survey Data for the 6 Percent Thick Wing Body Combination

Download or read book Data Report for a Test Program to Study Transonic Flow Fields about Aircraft with Application to External Stores Volume V Flow Field Survey Data for the 6 Percent Thick Wing Body Combination written by Stanley C Perkins (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A test program was conducted to obtain measurements of flow velocities and static pressures in the vicinity of wing-body-store model (representative of a fighter-type aircraft) as well as surface pressures, forces, and moments on the model. Flow velocities and static pressures were also measured near the tunnel walls to provide outer flow field information. Volume V presents the tabulated flow-field data for 6-percent thick wing model.

Book Three Component Doppler Global Velocimeter Measurements of the Flow Above a Delta Wing

Download or read book Three Component Doppler Global Velocimeter Measurements of the Flow Above a Delta Wing written by James F. Meyers and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new measurement technique is being developed by NASA to measure off-surface flow fields. This method, Doppler global velocimetry, will allow qualification of complex three-dimensional flow fields at video camera rates. The entire flow field structure within a selected plane is measured simultaneously rather than by scanned, point-by-point measurements using conventional laser velocimetry. To assess the capability of this new technique, three component velocity measurements of the vortical flow field above a thin 75 degree delta wing were made in the NASA Langley Basic Aerodynamics Research Tunnel. Measurements were made of the flow field at the 70-percent chord locations at angles-of-attack of 20.5-and 40.0-degrees to investigate unburst and burst vortices. For comparison, previous fringe-type laser velocimeter measurements of the flow field at the same conditions are included.
