Book Unsteady Aerodynamic Phenomena in Turbomachines

Download or read book Unsteady Aerodynamic Phenomena in Turbomachines written by ADVISORY GROUP FOR AEROSPACE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT NEUILLY-SUR-SEINE (FRAN CE) and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Specialists' Meeting was arranged in the following sessions: Flutter or Oscillating Cascades (5); Wakes or Complete Stage (10); Transonic and Supersonic Unsteady Phenomena (4); and Experimental Studies and Instrumentation Problems (5). The Technical Evaluation Report is included at the beginning of the Proceedings. Questions and answers of the discussions follow each paper. While around isolated airfoils many results on unsteady aerodynamic phenomena are available, reliable experimental data for unsteady turbomachinery flows were still missing. Therefore, the Specialists' Meeting offered a forum for experts to discuss the degree of advancements in this field. It was found that CFD with large numerical codes will be more and more developed and offer a useful tool for designers to improve their products. The experimental work for code validation is lagging somewhat behind. Keywords: Blades; Cascade; Compressors; Flutter; Oscillation; Supersonic flow; Transonic flow; Turbines; Unsteady aerodynamic; Vibration; Wakes; Symposia; Turbomachines. (jhd).

Book Fundamental Problems of Cascades for Transonic and Supersonic Stages of Turbomachines

Download or read book Fundamental Problems of Cascades for Transonic and Supersonic Stages of Turbomachines written by O. Novak and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problems involved in the design of transonic and supersonic cascades are discussed and illustrated with some typical examples. The analysis leads to some general conclusions concerning the basic aerodynamic phenomena which determine the flow quality in these cascades: interaction of compression shocks and Mach waves, separation of the boundary layer and its consequences, and interaction of compression shocks and boundary layer. It is also pointed out that dissipation phenomena in the flow such as the effect of viscosity, vorticity, and thermal conductivity must also be taken into account. In conclusion, problems for future work in the field of flow in cascades are formulated. (Author).

Book Aerothermodynamics of Turbomachinery

Download or read book Aerothermodynamics of Turbomachinery written by Naixing Chen and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-09-23 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is now an essential and effective tool used in the design of all types of turbomachine, and this topic constitutes the main theme of this book. With over 50 years of experience in the field of aerodynamics, Professor Naixing Chen has developed a wide range of numerical methods covering almost the entire spectrum of turbomachinery applications. Moreover, he has also made significant contributions to practical experiments and real-life designs. The book focuses on rigorous mathematical derivation of the equations governing flow and detailed descriptions of the numerical methods used to solve the equations. Numerous applications of the methods to different types of turbomachine are given and, in many cases, the numerical results are compared to experimental measurements. These comparisons illustrate the strengths and weaknesses of the methods – a useful guide for readers. Lessons for the design of improved blading are also indicated after many applications. Presents real-world perspective to the past, present and future concern in turbomachinery Covers direct and inverse solutions with theoretical and practical aspects Demonstrates huge application background in China Supplementary instructional materials are available on the companion website Aerothermodynamics of Turbomachinery: Analysis and Design is ideal for senior undergraduates and graduates studying in the fields of mechanics, energy and power, and aerospace engineering; design engineers in the business of manufacturing compressors, steam and gas turbines; and research engineers and scientists working in the areas of fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, and heat transfer.
