Download or read book Transmission of Electromagnetic Waves Through a Time varying Dielectric Layer written by Ronald Louis Fante and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Expressions are obtained for the electromagnetic fields transmitted through a time-varying dielectric layer when a plane wave is incident normally upon one interface. Solutions are obtained for the case when the dielectric constant is changed in a stepwise fashion, and also for the case when the dielectric constant varies slowly and continuously. It is found that the inclusion of the boundary effects gives rise to frequency components in the transmitted signal which were not predicted by previous theories. (Author).

Download or read book Mathematical Physical Chemistry written by Shu Hotta and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-01-23 with total page 629 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces basic concepts of mathematical physics to chemists. Many textbooks and monographs of mathematical physics may appear daunting to them. Unlike other, related books, however, this one contains a practical selection of material, particularly for graduate and undergraduate students majoring in chemistry. The book first describes quantum mechanics and electromagnetism, with the relation between the two being emphasized. Although quantum mechanics covers a broad field in modern physics, the author focuses on a hydrogen(like) atom and a harmonic oscillator with regard to the operator method. This approach helps chemists understand the basic concepts of quantum mechanics aided by their intuitive understanding without abstract argument, as chemists tend to think of natural phenomena and other factors intuitively rather than only logically. The study of light propagation, reflection, and transmission in dielectric media is of fundamental importance. This book explains these processes on the basis of Maxwell equations. The latter half of the volume deals with mathematical physics in terms of vectors and their transformation in a vector space. Finally, as an example of chemical applications, quantum chemical treatment of methane is introduced, including a basic but essential explanation of Green functions and group theory. Methodology developed by the author will also prove to be useful to physicists.

This book was released on 2023-05-23 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamental Physicochemical Properties of Germanene-related Materials: A Theoretical Perspective provides a comprehensive review of germanene-related materials to help users understand the essential properties of these compounds. The book covers various germanium complex states such as germanium oxides, germanium on Ag, germanium/silicon composites and germanium compounds. Diverse phenomena are clearly illustrated using the most outstanding candidates of the germanium/germanene-related material. Delicate simulations and analyses are thoroughly demonstrated under the first-principles method, being fully assisted by phenomenological models. Macroscopic phenomena in chemical systems, including their principles, practices and concepts of physics such as energy, structure, thermodynamics and quantum chemistry are fully covered. Germanium-based materials play critical roles in the basic and applied sciences, as clearly revealed in other group-IV and group-V condensed-matter systems. Their atomic configurations are suitable for creating the active chemical bonding among the identical and/or different nearest-neighboring atoms leading to diverse physical/chemical/material environments. - Provides a comprehensive review of germanene-related materials with a physicochemical and theoretical foundation that is useful for readers in understanding the essential properties of these compounds - Presents a unique theoretical framework under single and multi-hybridization theory - Contains significant combinations with phenomenological and experimental measurements - Focuses on the study of macroscopic phenomena in chemical systems in terms of their principles, practices and concepts of physics such as energy, structure, thermodynamics and quantum chemistry

Download or read book Electromagnetics of Time Varying Complex Media written by Dikshitulu K. Kalluri and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-07-29 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent advances in the fields of materials science and electromagnetics indicate that materials can be synthesized with any desired electromagnetic properties. Electromagnetics of Complex Media provides the appropriate understanding of optimum properties for a given application, addressing the needs of researchers who study electromagnetics as a base for those disciplines using complex materials. Examples include electrooptics, plasma science and engineering, microwave engineering, and solid state devices. The book emphasizes these aspects: Dispersive medium Tunneling of power through a plasma slab by evanescent waves Characteristic waves in an anisotropic medium Transient medium and frequency shifting Green's function for unlike anisotropic media Perturbation technique for unlike anisotropic media Adiabatic analysis for modified source wave All of the above topics use one-dimensional models. Brief discussions also include chiral media, surface waves, and periodic media. The text focuses on bringing out the major effects due to each kind of complexity in the medium properties. A plasma column in the presence of a static magnetic field is at once dispersive, anisotropic, and inhomogeneous - thus the author uses plasma as the basic medium to illustrate some aspects of the transformation of an electromagnetic wave by a complex medium. Early chapters use a mathematical model that usually has one kind of complexity. The medium is often assumed to be unbounded in space or has a simple plane boundary. The field variables and the parameters are often assumed to vary in one spatial coordinate. This eliminates the use of heavy mathematics and permits the focus to be on the effect. Electromagnetics of Complex Media aims to stimulate experimental and additional theoretical and numerical work on the effects that can be obtained by the temporal and spatial modification of the magnetoplasma parameters. The book also provides the new researcher with a quick primer into the theory of using magnetoplasmas for the coherent generation of tunable radiation.

Download or read book FDTD Analysis of Guided Electromagnetic Wave Interaction with Time Modulated Dielectric Medium written by Debdeep Sarkar and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-04-22 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a detailed analytical and computational electromagnetic (CEM) treatment of guided electromagnetic (EM) wave propagation in independently time-varying dielectric medium, using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulation technique. The contents provide an extensive literature review, explaining the importance of time-varying media (temporal photonic crystals) in new exotic applications that involve rich EM phenomena such as parametric amplification, frequency conversion, non-reciprocal gain, electromagnetic energy accumulation, temporal coating and temporal aiming (beam-forming). A one-dimensional (1D) FDTD simulation paradigm is then formulated in this book, starting from Maxwell's equations and boundary conditions. The issues of hard/soft source realizations, perfectly matched layers (PMLs), choice of simulation parameters (cell-size and time-stepping) are thoroughly explained through new visualization tools. This book provides a unique combination of rigorous analytical techniques, several FDTD simulation examples with reproducible source-codes, and new visualization/post-processing mechanisms. The contents of this book should prove to be useful for students, research scholars, scientists and engineers, working in the field of applied electromagnetics, and aiming to design cutting-edge microwave/optical devices based on time-varying medium.
