Book Transitional Justice in Serbia The Impact on Facing the Past

Download or read book Transitional Justice in Serbia The Impact on Facing the Past written by Carsten Fiedler and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2013-01-08 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Politics - Region: Southeastern Europe, grade: 1,6, University of Leipzig (Institut für Politikwissenschaft), language: English, abstract: In this thesis, I examine the effects of transitional justice and Europeanisation on the Republic of Serbia's policy of dealing with the past. The Republic of Serbia has shown – at different times - both refusal and assertion of Europeanisation. Refusal of Europeanisation did not contribute to an honest dealing with the past. While the assertion of Europeanisation accelerated compliance with the demands set out by the European Union, Serbia did comply mostly for reasons of strategy. That is, Serbia emphasized projects of dealing with the past mainly because they guarantee closer ties with the European Union. In this way, the European Union's capacity to shape the Serbian conception of history according to its identity is limited. Therefore, traditional Serbian narratives of its history will remain prevalent. Furthermore, I discuss the merits and shortcomings of the 'regional' approach to transitional justice at the example of the RECOM initiative and explain the political potential this project may have for the post-Yugoslav countries.

Book Transition in Montenegro

Download or read book Transition in Montenegro written by Igor Luksic and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every transition process has its own specifics. Montenegro is no different. It started like in case of other Eastern European countries in late 80ies and early 90ies. But it soon floundered due to the wars in the region and international sanctions. The transformation of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia into the state union of Serbian and Montenegro gave a boost to economic reforms in particular. Restored independence in 2006 sped the process of the European integration which has led into the rounds of political reforms. Challenges remain ahead as there is more to do in the fields of rule of law, economic governance and public administration.

Book Fiscal Decentralisation Local Government and Policy Reversals in Southeastern Europe

Download or read book Fiscal Decentralisation Local Government and Policy Reversals in Southeastern Europe written by William Bartlett and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-10-31 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited collection provides a comprehensive geographic and chronological overview of the decentralisation processes in the successor states of former Yugoslavia and Albania during their transition and EU integration years, from 1990 until 2016. These countries present a unique laboratory for the analysis of economic, social and political change, having traversed armed conflicts, dramatic economic and political changes, and EU pre-accession processes involving deep institutional reform. They have also endured the Eurozone crisis, which has led to high levels of unemployment, wide fiscal gaps and dangerously high levels of indebtedness. Observing the quarter century-long transition from socialism to capitalism through the prism of decentralisation sheds new light on studying the political economy of the region and the current status of the individual countries in terms of economic development and their EU integration progress. The contributors enrich the wider literature on fiscal decentralisation in transition countries by exploring several broad questions on democratisation, the political economy of post-communist transition, the role of external actors in policy transfer and the issue of financial stability in the post-crisis period.
